Hi everyone. I'd like to repost my guide for how to roleplay as a Tevinter character (with a bit of old god worship) up. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the guide better please let me know.
For Dragon Age Origins:
-Human, Any gender, Mage, Blood Mage
Recommended Party Members (decided based on Tevinter lore, not strategy)
1. Oghren- Why? Tevinter has a strong friendship with the Dwarves. It was the dwarves who made the Juggernauts that guard the gates of Minrathous. There is also the lyruim trading that goes on between them as well.
2. Morrigan- Why? Morrigan had no problem when it came to the matter of doing a deal with the Tevinter slavers. She was also interested in saving the Old God (archdemon) from getting destroyed by performing an old and powerful ritual.
3. Zeveran- Why? He's an elf and you could pretend he's one of your slaves.
4. Shale- Why? Golems are a dwarven craft and would pair up nicely with a Tevinter.
5. Mabari War Dog- Why? The dog breed was originally created in the Tevinter Imperium until they defected to Fereldan.
Quest Decisions:
- Leave Sten in his cage to die. (tevinter enemy) Talk to him if you wish.
- Make deal with demon to learn Blood Magic. (even if you learned it already for rp purposes)
- Side with Mages to fight Templar oppression
- Side with Werewolves, Tevinter fought the elves and destroyed their homeland
*Lore now debunked in DAI, Dorian claims the elves fought and killed each other and Tevinter claimed what was left over and used it for their culture. Tevinter also took credit for destroying the elves.
- Side with Bhelen to improve the Dwarves livelihood instead of condemning them
-In Dust Town offer to help smuggle lyrium to Godwin at the mages tower. Godwin is hiding in a cupboard on the 2nd floor.
- Recruit Shale
-Don't join the Dragon Cult, they see the dragon as Andraste, not as an Old God. You could ruin the ashes, earn Reaver for a non-mage Tevinter playthrough, and then kill the cult members if you wish.
-There is a dagger in the game called Thorn of the Dead Gods that, according to lore, was made from pieces of the weapon that killed the Old God Toth. As an Old God worshipper, I recommend not using this weapon but I thought the lore was worth mentioning. Barlin in Lothering has one for sale.
- Make a deal with the Tevinter slavers to keep everything in exchange for the letter proving Logain's dealings with them. Before you try to enter the building the Tevinters have blocked off, go around to the back and bribe the guard to let you in so you don't have to kill the Tevinter healers in the front. Later when confronted by the Tevinter elf, tell her you don't want to fight and to see her leader and she'll take you to Caladrius without a fight.
-Allow Logain to live since he had no problem with trading elves to Tevinter.
- At end game, ask for the boon to let the mage's run themselves and become free from the Chantry.
*I also recommend wearing any kind of Tevinter robe and if playing as an Arcane Warrior/Reaver use the Tevinter shield & sword, I believe there is also a tevinter amulet as well.
*Dragon Age Awakening
-You can find a sword and dagger called Dumat's Spine & Dumat's Claw. However, since they are rumored to be made from the bones of Dumat I'm unsure if this is a good or bad thing.
-You can find some mage robes called Vestments of Urthemiel. According to lore, they once belonged to someone who worshipped the dragon god. You can find them in a flesh pod after meeting the Architect.
-Kill the Architect! I have read somewhere that the Architect had a map that had all the locations of where the Old Gods are sleeping and was planning to kill them before the darkspawn could get to them. This will be the main reason to play this game, not much else to role-play.
Dragon Age 2:
-Any gender, Mage, Blood Mage
Recommended Party Members:
1. Varric- Why? Tevinter/ Dwarven friendship as explained above.
2. Merril- Why? Supports dealing with demons and blood magic, restores a mirror used by Tevinters to communicate, plus as an elf you could use her as a slave.
3. Anders- Why? The most vocal about Templar oppression, likes the idea behind the Tevinter Chantry if you give him the amulet gift.
4. Fenris- Why? He's Tevinter as well as could be used as a slave.
Quest Decisions:
- Pick Smuggler over Mercenary, as Tevinters smuggle slaves in and out of Kirkwall.
- Complete all of Fenris's quests until you meet Danarius, return Fenris to his master. You will be sent a letter inviting Hawke to be given a personal tour of Minrathous by Denarius himself.
- Help Feynriel in the fade and encourage him to go to Tevinter for training.
- In Darktown, let Tevinter's go after they give you the information of Feynriel's location, you must have Fenris in order to trigger the conversation.
-When rescuing Feynriel at the Wounded Coast have Varric trick the Tevinter slaver into letting Feynriel go.
- In one of Fenris's quests, keep the elven woman as a slave and remember not to offer to pay her.
- In the Mark of the Assassin DLC, near the end in the cave choose not to help Talis as she is an elf and part of the Qun. Also throughout the DLC choose aggressive actions when dealing with Talis as if you are disgusted with her, I also recommend the same tone when dealing with elves in both DA games.
- In the quests to find the books of forbidden knowledge, read the book instead of destroying it.
- Complete the quests to become a partner and eventually an owner of the Bone Pit, this was an important area in Tevinter lore as a slave pit and a place of punishment.
- Throughout the game, support the mages and side with the Mages in the final conflict. Don't kill Anders, keep him in your party.
-In Act 2 visit the docks at night and head into the sewer. (disused passage) You will find a red crate with an item called The Seal of Dumat. You can deliver this item to a mage in Hightown or keep the item and pretend it's yours.
- Let Carver become a Warden or let him die, don't let him become a Templar.
- When dealing with Ser Varnel, kill the Qunari captive with aggressive dialog to prove your dislike of them.
- Kill the Arishock.
- Encourage Isabella to keep the Tome of Koslun rather than return it. Make sure to keep her friendship meter high enough to encourage her to stick around instead of leaving.
- In Act 3, visit the merchant in the Wounded Coast to purchase an important Tevinter lore artifact, the ring of the ferryman. Only the Archon (leader of Tevinter) wears this ring and yet here is one for sale!
- In the Legacy DLC, complete the quests to collect the artifacts of Dumat and collect the necklace from him.
Dragon Age Inquisition
-Human, any gender, Mage class
Recommended Party for lore reasons: Blackwall, Varric, and Dorian.
*If character is an Old God worshipper, tell people you don't worship the maker. If you want to be Imperial Chantry, then it's ok to tell people you believe in the maker. Either choice deny being the herald.
-Ally with the mages or let Tevinter have the mages and conscript the Templars.
-Ally with the Wardens since they sought help with Tevinter and performed sacrifices.
-Side with Gaspard as Emperor.
-Tell/encourage Cullan to stop taking lyrium, you want the templars to be weaker like they are in Tevinter.
-Spare the warden and chose Hawke in the fade to stay behind.
-If Calpernia is the enemy, avoid fighting her by giving her the information about the well.
*Too bad the Temple of Dumat isn't a place to revisit. Both mage & templar playthroughs have access to this location. On the mage side, talk to Cullan and complete a quest chain that will lead to the temple. On the templar playthrough, a quest chain starting in Val Royeaux will lead to the temple.
-Let Morigan drink from the well so you don't become bound to an elven goddess.
-Decorate skyhold in all Tevinter decor.
-Don't recruit Iron Bull since he's part of the qun or Vivianne since she believes magic should serve man.
-The Jaws of Hakkon dlc has a Scepter of Razikale, Razikale is one of the remaining Old Gods still alive. Also the temple of Razikale can be revisited as many times as you want. The staff is located in a chest behind a locked door in a jail room. The bear that the Avvar can send you to find is near it. The bear quest is not important for this playthrough.
-When you accept the role as Inquisitor, declare you are taking the role for your own power.
-During judgments, spare any tevinters and/or ally with them.
-Tell Cassandra to not restart the seekers.
-Ideally, Leliana would be the best divine for mage freedom like in Tevinter. That means allying with the mages. However, Cassandra would be a 2nd choice. Since you are not recruiting Vivianne you don't need to worry about ending up with her as divine.
