As I said, I leave the gratuitous sex scenes to people's imagination, their fanfics or their favourite adult SFM/Blender/whatever animators. I don't need to see Iron Bull going balls deep doggystyle on my femdwarf Inquisitor. That's more like a snuff film, from the sound of it. You can show me Cassandra's ample bosom, or Dorian's derriere, though, in a tasteful manner. And if I'm offended, flipping a switch could have them clothed in the same scene. I don't need to see that either, nor do I have the slightest desire to see it. I just don't subscribe to the whole idea that you should be able to selectively avoid being confronted with things that offend you in games, or movies, or any other works of storytelling. If you (generic "you", not you personally) don't like it, play different games. There are enough of them that cater to the oversensitive. Yes, I do understand the notion that a few pixels depicting boobies is a very trivial thing to get annoyed at. People will get offended, regardless and if they don't, then they will go out of their way to find something that does.

A lot of games have a nudity slider. Conan Exiles, for example, which I have been enjoying for a while now, has a slider for no nudity, partial nudity and full nudity. I get it, not everyone is interested in watching naked male dancers with their flippity floppity helicopter propellers. I've just never come across anyone arguing that a toggle switch is not enough, though. I mean, I have to admit, this is a first for me. I guess you have a point there.
It's probably that the things that annoy me in games are almost never visual in nature. At least, not enough to complain about it. Do I *like* seeing such a scene as you describe? Probably not so much, but it's no big deal. People saying bullshit where they're designed to know better, just because the writer didn't bother to do their research, now *that* I can get quite incensed about, and for that it doesn't matter so much that I have to listen to the BS rather than that it's there in the first place to give people false information.
With regard to nudity sliders, as long as the nudity, or lack of it, is irrelevant, I don't have a problem with a slider. In the scene you described, for instance, unless some characters refer to it. The thing is, most of the time when there is nudity it's anything but irelevant. For instance, in sex scenes. My stance in that has always been: I don't need to see everything, but what I see must be convincing. That applies to censorship as well as to sliders and switches. In the end, though, I find the whole idea of "objecting to nudity" silly. At least, in fiction where most people actually look good without any clothing on.
As an extension to this discussion: objections to being gratuitously gross, that I could understand. There are times when I wish I could unsee the Broodmother, but even there I would not actually complain about the visuals as such it since I know the presentation existed to make a point. My criticism comes instead from a more sociopsychological viewpoint: invoking disgust as it was clearly done intentionally here conveys the impression of the "unnatural", a thing that shouldn't exist. Personally, I object to this notion of the unnatural in the first place, as if "nature" as a whole, rather than simply that which is beneficial to us, for evolutionary reasons, conforms to human notions of being well-shaped. Thus, by invoking disgust to make such points, we subscribe to the false assumption that some things are more natural than others by virtue of looking good to the human eye.
The entire point of the Broodmother is to bring home.how twisted and disgusting the Darkspawn are, how they are a perversion of nature. If they didn't gross you out BioWare did it wrong. The Mother actually was worse, to me, because she was much...perkier and human-looking, which didn't make a lot of sense in the lore. The Awakened didn't look different than other 'spawn but she did. That kinda creeped me out, more toward the devs than Broodmothers (and those freakazoids who talked about how hot she was. Oh, BSN, never change.)

Fuck Anders. That bastard gave me the max disproval because i didn't want him juggling my Hawke's balls in his mouth. You'd think i handed over a dozen mages to be turned into tranquil with that reaction. 10 isn't max disapproval, stop whining about it. Anders is still a sleeze bag, stop defending him. Fuck Anders. That bastard gave me the max disproval because i didn't want him juggling my Hawke's balls in his mouth. You'd think i handed over a dozen mages to be turned into tranquil with that reaction. Heh...guess what, people don't like being rejected. Some like it less than others, and let you feel it. Irrational? Sure, just like the whole "sex and relationships" thing in the first place. No big deal.
Fuck Anders.

Lol. A sleaze bag. If being flirted with by a fictional character causes you to fly into a Gay Panic so severe that you literally hallucinate an entirely different game from the one you are actually playing, imagine how women must feel every single day of their actual lives.

I'm female and played female Hawke and was going to romance "the mage". But Anders was so creepy hitting on Hawke so soon that I went for the anger issues elf and wasn't really any happier. The problems with creepy Anders have nothing to do with homophobia but with his character. In my case anyway. I couldn't care less who hits on my characters except that I make romance choices based on how appealing or not the flirtation and character overall is. And Anders blew it within five minutes. Sorry, dude! Bioware's track record with appealing flirtation/romances is not great for me. But who cares? Maybe get rid of romances to shut up all this drama and focus on a good game. That would make *me* happy. Sell a romance DLC that represents every imaginable fantasy for easy extra cash. Problem solved.
(I'm not even entirely joking...)

As long as they sell most of the rest of the game as DLC so that others pet preferences get shafted equally.

Because you have so many other games catering to you that you'd be perfectly happy to have one of the very few developers who caters to LGBT either scrap that entire aspect of their product, or make them charge extra to download it separately. WTF.

Romances aren't the only reason to replay surely? How about making different choices about pretty much everything else...?

WTF. Relax. I'm actually in favor of playersexual that I know is not popular anymore either. But since I personally care more about a good story than banging pixel people, I don't see what the problem is with letting everyone bang everyone. I pick romances based on how much I like that character, male or female. When it's a Bioware game, I usually do all the romances. Doesn't matter all that much to me. It's extra stuff, I can take it or leave it. Imo the options for straight female in Bioware games are pretty awful with maybe 2 exceptions. I don't play Bioware games for the romances. Crazy idea!

It's not really crazy idea. The romances make the game more personal. Anders' romance especially a very good example of it. But of course, not for everyone.

Lmao, Dragon Age has absolutely NOTHING if it doesn't have romances. It'll just end up being another unimaginative western fantasy '' RPG '' that doesn't really stand out from it's peers. Sorry, but a romanceless Dragon Age seems like a complete sinking ship.

If NuSony doesn't give EA a pass, Bio might have to use fade to black intermissions with characters who are clothed before and after they do deed. That or go the Austin Powers' route with censorship if they can get away with it.

I don't know if anyone could tackle something like a romance arc of a person with paranoia, DID and quite possibly a few other mental disorders, make it as subtle, interactive and fulfilling as Bioware did. And it's not like we got to see nood tiddies at the end. If anything, it was probably the most PG-13 romance scene in the franchise.

But romances are often very cringy to me. *shrugs* The minute Elder Scrolls gives me a gave with in-depth gay romances, I will never need to go back to playing DA ever again. After playing 1000 hours of DA:I, 50~ hours of DA2 and getting bored out of my mind with DAO, I'm not particularly invested in the series outside of it's dating sim aspect. I used to be completely in love (thus 1000 hours of DA:I), but after thinking about it, after the initial high, there's nothing really that really wows me outside of the pretty decent character creator and being able to kiss dudes as a dude. Take that away and I'm not going to even bother. If I want gameplay and a really immersive roleplaying experience, I'll pick Skyrim, Oblivion or Morrowind any day of the week. This is not to mock Dragon Age but if they take out romances, there's nothing really left for me. EDIT: deleted previous post because I fat-fingered and didn't realize it went through. Whoops.

Romances as I knew them were mostly just flirtatious dialogue and the "deeper" dialogue after certain save points. A sex scene *might* happen, but between a brief allusion to cunnilingus and flashes of T&A there's not really much to lose otherwise. Heck if you removed anything remotely explicit from DA2, they'd just bleep out the occasional curse word.
I'd hate to lose them though. I feel like they add a great deal to a choose-your-own-adventure hero story. Companion content has always been the biggest driving force of DA games.
