Seems this might release in time to test my new RTX 4080 card 🤣 Isn't that supposed to release early next year now? BG3 is a maybe 2022 release, mostly probably 2023 per Sven not that long ago...

I think, I'm not starting a new playthrough over that patch. If it's true, that the full game might not be released before 2023, I try to not get burnt out before full release, so I guess, I'll take a break for now (maybe finish my bard, since I really like her). But there are some nice new features. ANd I like, that you can free Shadowheart now, since she is my favorite companion.

That might be better for a new playthrough if you played patch 4. In my case, I haven't really played BG3 since patch 2 so it might be a good time to experience the new stuff.

Yeah, I might be waiting that one out. Or even a bit longer. I already have 8 finished playthroughs and a lot unfinished ones, so I have to be careful to not get burnt out. I tend to be a a bit obsessed with games, I like (don't ask me, how many playthroughs I have on Vampire Bloodlines or the Dragon Age games )

Patch 5 is here ( release notes)... and it's a big download on GOG (I have a 64.50 GB download WTF!). edit: I uninstalled and reinstalled the game instead. The size was 64.61 GB...hmm. edit: release notes changes...more magical items? The game didn't need more of them. The Hermit and Sailor backgrounds are taking a break. What does that mean, lol. Fuuuu, Flaming Sword can now be looted from Commander Zhalk.Lots of Shadowheart's interaction (small) changes in there it seems. Easier tutorial and a few other encounters, except the Githyanki...they have even more HP now, why? Looks like there was some change in level design revamp here and there. That's a huge list of fixes and changes.

I played the Tutorial and freed Shadowheart.
There is a lot more emphasis on the artifact and her "hate" for the Gith in that branch. She's also a lot nicer afterward, maybe too nice actually. But I haven't got to the point were we can learn whom she worship.

Well, tried to play some yesterday, butttttttt - *crash/burn!* Going into the second room on the Nautiloid the game when into "freeze-frame" mode. Eventually it just froze. When I quit via the task manager, the game threw up an error and a bug report from the Larian launcher. Sent off the report, then Steam auto downloaded some extra files. I haven't run the verifying file integrity yet, but will do that as well, once I get a chance to try playing again. Hopefully it will fix whatever the hell happened (prior to this incident, I had only ever had one crash of the game about six months ago.). Anyhoo...I did watch a few things on YT, and I am excited for some of the new content scenes I saw. Fingers crossed I can play this later today.

This new update was nice. I'm finally glad I can loot commander Zhalk greatsword which is a nice weapon. I do hate however they removed the hermit background. It was the only background that had medicine proficiency. Now that backgrounds are tied to inspiration points. I wish they could separate those backgrounds and the proficiency skills associated with them, so we can just pick the proficiencies we want. I love the outlander background but it has athletics as one of the proficiencies. I wish I could chose that background and just chose medicine and survival as the 2 bonus proficiency.

If you want medicine, pick a class that have access to it and pick it in the skill section at the end of character creation until they add it back. The release notes doesn't make it sound like it is a permanent removal. Background giving proficiencies is per D&D 5e and granting inspiration to players to act as per their background is one of the manual suggestions to grant inspiration. It's like the only thing still core 5e in the game...and so many people want it gone now. It's very interesting considering all the complaining about the game not being 5e enough. By the way, picking a skill as a proficiency just means you put your proficiency bonus when you do a skill check. That bonus is stuck at +2 thanks to the level cap. It's better to invest into the attribute governing and using the spell buff with the new GUI in term of mechanic in the EA to help with DCs.

It's better to invest into the attribute governing and using the spell buff with the new GUI in term of mechanic in the EA to help with DCs. Maybe the class they want to play doesn't have medicine but they invision their character having learned that practical skill over the course of their life. If they were playing tabletop dnd5e they absolutely could play an outlander with medicine skill instead of athletics. Customising your background is also a 5e thing. The part on how to do it is at the beginning of the background section of the book. www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/personality-and-background#CustomizingaBackgroundBecause sometimes the mechanics granted by the default backgrounds don't match up with the backstory and personality you've actually written for your character. And the rules acknowledge that and provide for it. That might require switching one Proficiency to something more appropriate, or full on build-a-bear-ing something new. Backgrounds of course work differently in bg3. I haven't played yet but reading the wiki - they don't give tool and language proficiencies or have a special feature. But they will have quests, and inspiration. Due to the quests and inspiration triggering actions I'm sure they'll want all characters tied to one of the default backgrounds but that's not a problem. They could still have a 'customise a background' option where you select one of the backgrounds and then select 2 skills to be proficient in. Thus allowing people to pick the background/skill combination that most suits the backstory they have in mind for their character. The only problem with that I could see would be if instead of say, a folk heroes inspiration being tied to when they do something heroic like save a peasant it is instead tied to when they use the survival and animal handling skills... Which would suck. But assuming inspiration points are tied to choices/actions relating to your background rather then skill rolls it could work.

Which would suck. But assuming inspiration points are tied to choices/actions relating to your background rather then skill rolls it could work. Half of the EA classes have access to medicine. If Larian start to give people options to mix&match everything, we will never see this game released. People don't just want to pick 2 skills and a background. They want variants that requires DM approval everywhere. Larian can't barely manage to make the classes and archetypes in the PHB as is, some of the classes/archetypes in EA are still missing base features (rogue and Great of Old Ones Warlock comes to mind). They took the decisions a long time ago that everyone was going to speak common to reduce the game scope. While they have called them "quests", I wouldn't exactly call them that. There are specific triggers on decisions/actions that grants inspiration if you have specific background and the journal tracks them. The Folk Hero is basically all "Save x", but some of the others are more based on their skills like Urchin which is all mostly stealing.

Prequel comics incoming! This five-issue series features Minsc and Boo, Krydle, Shandie, Delina, and Nerys. Written by Jim Zub, it’s designed to lead into the events of the Baldur’s Gate III video game. The party must fight to save each other—and their sanity—from a mind flayer-led cult secretly destroying trust between the factions in Baldur’s Gate. This storyline follows on from the Infernal Tides comic and acts as a prequel to Baldur’s Gate III.

I just saw one of the new scenes in Patch 5 that involve the Absolute having a mind-chat with Tav and the gang. I was expecting the Narrator to be voicing the Absolute, but looks like it's someone else...doing a great impersonation of Meridia in Skyrim, but it doesn't sound at 100% like Jean Gilpin. Also, about the 3 shadowy figures in that scene that represent the Absolute's Chosen... Myrkul Bhaal is a girl now!? edit: I thought Myrkul because of the paleness, but Bhaal is the only one that was resurrected in a unknown vessels. It's possible they aren't the Dead Three thought. This video is awesome and full of spoilers and speculation including datamining ones:

So I'm finally going to attempt a playthrough(ish) of Baldur's Gate 3 EA...but I've no idea what class to pick after some dubbing I decided to go with a Mephistopheles tiefling, 'cause 1) they're purple/blue and 2) playing humans or elves all the time bores me. so yeah...could use a class recommendation

So I'm finally going to attempt a playthrough(ish) of Baldur's Gate 3 EA...but I've no idea what class to pick after some dubbing I decided to go with a Mephistopheles tiefling, 'cause 1) they're purple/blue and 2) playing humans or elves all the time bores me. so yeah...could use a class recommendation Mephistopheles tiefling get a +2 Charisma bonus, so I'll say Cleric or Warlock. Light Domain Cleric is a good first timer class and Warlock's Eldritch blast is awesome.

Kinda hoping for a Paladin when the full game releases, gotta love the irony of a paladin being a tiefling

So this is an "early access" game, which is another word I guess for incomplete or Beta? They don't intend to have "official" release until 2022 at the soonest.
Still, I randomly found a video of a Drow Protagonist and literally everyone noticed they were a drow. And I'm into that sort of reactivity. And I've not minded a silent protagonist either.
Where exactly is the early access game at now? is there a short but complete-able story in it, or like the first 4 chapters of a 20 chapter book amount of story or what?

As I understand the first Act of the game is somewhat complete, and it's what you're able to play
They added a few new tidbits, like...being able to safe Shadowheart during the prologue (you couldn't before, and if you safe her she's a lot friendlier the second time you meet )
I haven't played much yet though...I'm still wandering around 'tiefling love grove' ...and I say that with sarcasm, its fun to see the other tieflings react to my tiefling though
