Lol. Triss is supposed to be one the most naturally beautiful sorceresses. One of the few who didn't alter her looks... The even crazier part is that the actress is 27 years old, and is only 4 years older than Yennefer's actress.

Even her expression seems to read as;
"Really, I'm supposed to be playing Triss? Did the people making this actually read the books? Or at the very least play the games? How about take even a brief glance at a basic character description?"
(Not objecting because they race-lifted the character, but because based on the actresses previous work, casting her as Triss seems completely off the mark.)

I f they did this for politiclly correct reasons there are other characters they could have chosen that it would not have mattered but Triss!!!!! What were they thinking, anyways as I said above its enough to make me not even bother watching the show, especially as I was going to have to get a Netflix subscription which I don't already have.

Then again, I did like Legend of the Seeker way better than the book series, which I stopped reading after book 4. The TV show didn't make me hate everyone for being impossibly stupid and/or misogynistic.

Yeah not a fan of Henry Cavill as Geralt either but I could live with that as he does end up looking like Geralt after make-up but I think it needed to be someone more "grizzled" and weather beaten, he's too clean cut and smooth and young looking. I did get Prime simply because of The Expanse as I loved the books so much but it also had American Gods, Hanna and I also bought a Kindle so there ended up being other reasons.

Race-lifting isn't always necessarily a bad thing, Nick Fury and Heimdall in the MCU are good examples of when it works and no-one really cared about the comic/mythological accuracy. Whereas Tilda Swinton being cast the Ancient One did raise some eyebrows because they race-lifted and gender-flipped the character, even though she ultimately knocked it out of the park.
There's no real rhyme or reason whether it works or it doesn't. I dunno, I suppose we'll have to see?

I actually enjoyed Legend of the Seeker and was disappointed when it got cancelled after only 2 seasons, but I liked the books better. Had it not been based on the books and had it been a series that wasn't connected to them, I think I would've liked it more. They changed too much of the story, for my liking. The gars were nothing like I had pictured them to be and they took too many creative liberties for it to be linked to the books. It was a show I really enjoyed on one hand but cringed soooo much over.

I did like the general atmosphere of the trailer. The coloring of the scenes, the backgrounds and all that looked rather nice.
But I have to admit, the main cast doesn't quite fit the bill and I did try to keep an open mind and go with the premise that they don't try to follow the visuals of the games (which IMO was a mistake in the first place, the games did so well in most cases, it would have been the easyest and probably the best way to go). But yea, even without that consideration, most of them just don't seem to fit that well.
Still, I thought the show looked better in moving images then it did just in the screens we sa before. Let's wait and see. Between The Expanse and ST: Picard, there is a lot for me to watch toward the end of the year already and I don't have Netflix by default, so maybe I'll wait until it's all out, see what the reviews say and maybe just binge it later if it turns out to be decent.
P.S.: I don't like Gerald's glimmering amulet at all. It may be closer to the book description but the game version was soooo much cooler. Again, should have gone with something inspired by that.

Legend of The Seeker did a major disservice to The Sword of Truth, but it's one positive was that it gave off a Xena Warrior Princess/Hercules Legendary Journeys vibe. About Geralt splerging all of his reward money at a local GNC? If Hissrich and the writing crew weren't too busy drooling over Henry they should have told him to ease up on the gains. Now Geralt looks like he uses a Griffin's femur bone to lift before heading off to modelling gigs.

Also, it really got better in season 2 when Tabrett Bethal joined the cast. She was awesome as Cara...and I'll always love Craig Parker as Darken Rahl...the Jensen kitten scene was morbidly amusing.

Legend of the seeker was garbage. Acting was awful, special effects were awful and changes to plot
Witcher doesn’t have the look of GOT but it does however seem to follow the short stories (based on trailer) and will be nothing like the video games.
Already looks far superior to most syfy channel crap, better effects than the narnia movies etc
Netflix has shown the ability to have a lot of good original programming (superior to Hulu and amazon) and I bet their lineups compete with hbo etc

There's no real rhyme or reason whether it works or it doesn't. I dunno, I suppose we'll have to see? There kind of is though. Samuel Jackson, Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton are literally some of the most charismatic people on earth. And aside from Jackson, who would shine even playing Jesus while surrounded by actual Arabs, they still have a hard time swinging it. I certainly laughed my ass off at Heimdall being black. Like when Elba was cast as Roland Deschain, this is just an early warning that the show is generally going to be half-assed about trying to establish any kind of credible atmosphere. Which is a shame, because an unusually credible atmosphere is pretty much the foundation of the franchise. It could definitely still surprise us, but it nonetheless looks like this one is going to be another dud.

I actually think Rose Leslie (Ygritte from GoT) would have been a good pick/fit and she could just tell Geralt instead of Jon Snow that he "knew nothing" and her personality would be a good fit for Triss as well.

I was more hoping for Netflix to cast some less recognizable actors and actresses. This franchise doesn't really need starpower, and in my mind calls for more understated performances than we're seeing in the trailer. Geralt being Superman in a wig making baby faces instead of speaking is bad enough without Triss also being Ygritte plus ten inches of cleavage. If that was the alternative then I'd actually rather have given the Mediterranean-looking girl a chance.

I mean indeed this one is an actress, so maybe could work as a more reasonable pick. The one I posted is a cosplayer kind of girl, but I think she does an amazing job with the make up and looks pretty much like Triss in game, that is to say gorgeous.

Which is a shame, because an unusually credible atmosphere is pretty much the foundation of the franchise. In the Dark Tower novels, Roland's character is trapped in an endless cycle of reincarnation and repetition, albeit the events of each "loop" aren't always the same each time. The books imply his personality may change between "loops", so why not his appearance?
Elba wasn't playing the Roland from the novels, he was playing a different iteration of Roland.
(The next one, supposedly?)

I'd say that Eleanor Tomlinson (Demelza from Poldark) would have made for a great Triss as well.
