Technically, Tevinter and Ferelden are on the same continent. Most of Thedas is. There's water north of Ferelden but it doesn't go all the way across. You could go around it to get to Tevinter. So, if that clue should be taken literally (and Arcadia herself didn't make the same mistake) that leaves just Par Vollen, I think? I wasn't hinting at my place of birth as that would be answering 2 questions. I just needed you all to understand how filthy those creatures are, and how my wonderful Visage should be as far away from them as possible.

This round is getting really interesting, but I do have a question regarding these questions that are being asked regarding roles: Are spies -and I suppose Heroes in certain cases- allowed to lie when being asked these questions in each round? Absolutely people are allowed to lie, evade or equivocate in their answers. The reason I gave the spies their own backgrounds was so they could be truthful if they wish. In fact it could help their cause to do so with some answers but not with others. There are heroes who might wish to conceal their identity by not giving a straight answer. This could make them appear suspicious. Remember questions/hints are only there as a guide to voting, particularly in the first round when you have nothing else to go on, but should not be the only consideration. Well, since people are allowed to lie, I will take the answers with a well placed dose of paranoia. I didn't lie myself, but I want to mention again, that I had to be a bit evasive with my answer for reasons, I can explain as a hint next round, should I make it and should you be interested

Happy birthday, gervaise!
I actually didn’t realize people could lie outright since we have the option to give our own hints instead, ignore questions directed to us, or be evasive. If people can just flat out lie, then everyone’s answers are suspect and there is no point to even asking.

If people can just flat out lie, then everyone’s answers are suspect and there is no point to even asking. I admit I enjoyed the logic puzzle created by everyone supposedly giving a correct answer. It's fun eliminating people that way, but perhaps lying is key to the spies roll in a mafia game?

Happy birthday, gervaise! I actually didn’t realize people could lie outright since we have the option to give our own hints instead, ignore questions directed to us, or be evasive. If people can just flat out lie, then everyone’s answers are suspect and there is no point to even asking. I don't really see a difference between this and the Citadel game. In both the spies and heroes have roles and can give clues, but nobody ever said they have to be true. And that's the problem. Allowing outright lies in this game makes it just like the Citadel game, but with restrictions on how many clues you can give and restrictions on who gets which role. That goes against one of the stated purposes for changing the rules for this version of the game. Here is a quote from Gervaise (emphasis mine): This strategy for making voting more interesting works if players are allowed to 1) tell the truth, 2) ignore the question/opt not to hint, or 3) give a vague or misleading but technically true answer. This gives players actual information to make decisions with, even in the first voting round. But if people are allowed to lie, then the clues and questions don't matter at all, and we are back to "simply sticking a pin in."

But if people are allowed to lie, then the clues and questions don't matter at all, and we are back to "simply sticking a pin in." I don't think this is necessarily true if you keep in mind that spies will typically be more inclined to either give vague answers during the first round, not answer at all, or pretend to be certain roles rather than every role in the list. Spies won't pretend to be Vaea or Ser Aaron for instance since they will definitely be flagged by the real ones. And they definitely won't want to pretend to be Zither, Katari, or Harding either since the Heroes can call out their bluffs on those roles later on in the game.
The roles that players claim or hint at that you want to pay attention to however, are the ones that are activated by night and are rather passive. Spies can easily claim Dorian or Tamar for instance since Dorian's ability only activates when he gets killed and Tamar's ability tends to rarely activate in these games.
Also, we have to remember that if a spy claims or hints to be a role that so happens to be in game, whether it is Vaea/Ser Aaron or not, and the real role notices, than this will always get flagged up by the real role no matter what.
So I still think the Q&A feature for the first rounds and so on is still a bit useful given the fact that if someone is hinting at any of the roles that the spies won't be inclined to pretend to be and no one counter hints that role, then you can probably trust that player for that time being.

I agree with pela and I do think, that most people will at least try to answer honestly and a lie will come back to haunt them. They might be evasive to save their hides, but I guess, you can find out things nontheless.
I will be away for the weekend, but will look in here from my phone. Sadly, I won't have my notes with me,so I have to manage without

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. Now on the subject of lying. I have said before that the reason I gave the spies a background was so they could be truthful in their answers if they wish. The fact is you are more likely to be caught out by a lie. Once you have stated something about yourself, if you then contradict yourself later, people are likely not to believe you. Thus it is hardly necessary for me to penalise someone for lying as they will have done this to themselves. So it is far more effective for both spies and heroes wishing to conceal their identity to be vague, evasive or equivocate in their answers. Equivocation is where you don't want to outright lie but you qualify your answer with something said or unsaid (in your head) that subtly alters the truth of it. In other words you conceal the truth with ambiguity. I would say that Dadi's answer about what his character thought of Ferelden in the first round: "Fereldan wasn't my home, but my home was in Fereldan", was an example of equivocation. Unfortunately, using such a tactic can backfire on you through people understanding the answer in a way you did not intend, as Dadi discovered. So, Dragon, you analysis is not wasted. On the whole people are more likely to tell the truth in round one but as people start to be eliminated the number of people with similar facts about themselves may reduce to such an extent it becomes obvious who the person is likely to be. Thus a spy in particular may feel the need to lie to conceal the truth rather than simply evade, which would seem more suspicious. However, something about the facts they have given will then not fit their profile or duplicate someone else and thus the lie will trip them up.
