Male Amell or Female Cousland. Those are far and away my two favorite origins.

The first character I had who completed all of DA:O+DLC was a Dwarf Prince. No matter what else I play as or carryover, he's always gonna be The Warden to me.

Dwarf noble is my canon.
I played short races in EQ and WoW for years because I liked the in-game lore and the wonderful community that accompanied them. (Based on my experience nearly 20 years ago, elven players tended to be competitive and somewhat narcissistic. Gnomes would stop upon passing another gnome in their travels, salute and give warm greetings before going on their way. They were supportive, witty, and jolly in comparison. It is different nowadays since players don't live or die by reputation in modern MMOs.)
DA:O was given to me as a gift because specifically because dwarves were playable. I wouldn't have tried it out otherwise. I was told about the noble and commoner origins. I scoffed at the noble because I wasn't going to play a princess. However, there was a rebuttal that devs were proud of the noble storyline because of the politics involved so I decided OK, I'd check out the noble first. It sucked me in. It was a vastly different dwarven experience and I experienced conflicting emotions over dwarven pride of their culture and dwarven shame on how they treated their own people within the caste system. Madness!
I did play DA2. I have no problems playing as a human since that's standard for other games. However, there were no dwarven females at all. Orzammar was barely acknowledged apart from the gossip. Maybe one side quest depending on who you crowned. Couldn't romance a dwarf either. So I felt maybe this franchise wanted to head in a different direction from Origins and that was fine, it's their game. Probably wasn't for me anymore when the main draw had been to play dwarves. So I had quit Dragon Age and unsubscribed from their news feeds, FB page, etc. No big deal, plenty of other games to play.
I only returned when a forum member found a way to contact me to tell me that dwarves were going to be playable again in Inquisition. So I returned. And it was way better than I hoped (with table scraps being the bare minimum expected). The thrill of Cadash receiving a letter from Aeducan! My only quibble of Inquisition was the new body model for the dwarf female. They shrunk her too much and she feels like a hobbit instead of a proper dwarf. They only needed to fix the ape arms. Hoping they re-balance out the model next go-around.

Is it weird to anyone else that among players, F!Brosca and F!Aeducan are (slightly) more popular than their male counterparts even though if you play any other origin, they end up being male?
(I'm not aware of any of the others getting gendered in other paths, though I could be remembering something wrong.)

AFAIK Aeducan is the only one who is specifically male if you choose a different Origin. Never saw anything like that for Brosca or anyone else. I wouldn't take this poll as truly representative of the fanbase, though.

While it's not explicitly stated such, what's implied to be Brosca's corpse can be found in Jarvia's hideout for non-Brosca Wardens. And yeah, I know it isn't. I just found it kinda funny. I enjoy looking at poll results for little things like that (or to see how they compare to polls on other sites I visit).

I find it a bit hilarious how all the female elven Wardens are in third place!

I don't think they're being dissed, I think tying for third place is pretty good. Depends a little on how you tally it, I guess. Amell and Surana are technically the same origin, so that would be second, with Dalish as 3rd and City Elf as 4th.

I was introduced to the franchise through DAI. After I learned about Kieran, I decided to choose the Dalish Origin so that Morrigan's child would be elven blooded. It's just fitting, when you consider that his mother has taken an interest in elven lore and his grandmother is Mythal.
Also... I'm sure you can notice the resemblance if you look at my avatar. It is intentional.

I don't give a damn about the fact that Kieran doesn't have elven features. There are other ways for them to look similar, like skin and hair color.

My -official- canon is Queen Cousland ruling together with Alistair. However... My headcanon/unwritten fanfic dictates that she, along with female Amell, survive their Origins without Duncan's intervention. Instead my female Dalish -Mage- became the Warden. That way there's a chance for them to produce an heir, Cullen to be reunited with Amell at last during DAI and my Dalish Elf touring the Coast of Antiva and Rivain with Zevran instead of looking for a cure.

I chose the city elf because of the compelling storyline. I have never been a dwarf fancier, with due respect to those of you who like dwarves, and I can't bring myself to play a "top of the food chain" human. The concept of an elf female fighting at first for her survival and later to save the very humans who ruined her life strikes me as having the most pathos. I also enjoy the concept of the "weaker sex" kicking the butts of these very humans, darkspawn and ad infinitum.

David Gaider may have paraphrased it differently,in the end it doesn't matter you can see it by yourself, most choices lead to the same outcomes of their default world-state. Not really sure what you're saying. If you're saying there's a canon origin or playthrough--again, there isn't. I don't expect anyone to just take my word for it (the blog got deleted so can't immediately find the quote), but I also don't know how many different ways I can put it. Default =/= canon. Default is simply a world state for newcomers. If you have something from Bioware saying something different, please post it. Otherwise, take it up with them, or feel free to believe what you want. But right now I'm just repeating myself. People are very protective of their roleplay and so they choose to believe this, but yes, the defaul it's a canon or at least is very close to be a canon world. The DA Keep's version requires you to go the extra length and modify the game, while the default one is unadulterated and even if you do that some choices are being ovveride by the BioWare world-state.

Man, 12th place (before I placed my vote). Sucks to be a Dwarven Noble. The poll didn't even spell her race right. I felt like Dwarven Noble was the perfect place for an evil Warden, considering all the backstabbing and politics that went on in there. Being evil was like second nature to my Dwarf, especially because she's a woman, having to work very hard to make a killing in order to earn the proper respect as a potential heir to the throne. Most of the "evil" options didn't faze her much, but more out of pragmatism than the enjoyment of killing a child , but her love interest, Alistair, did slowly wear her down gradually (especially after Redcliffe). I don't know. I've always liked badass females and anti-heroes who find redemption.
