people need to stop acting like this man is nothing but a troll. Perhaps his content has changed. When I used to watch, it was cynical and nasty clickbait without soul or merit. Some of the pond life that occupied the comments thread were worse, but I guess you reap what you sow. If he's turned it around, then good for him, but there's been too much scum under the bridge for me personally to revisit his channel. He used to do good work as you said, he had excellent coverage on Metal Gear Solid 5 even working with his friends to set up meetings with most of their voice actors. I'm not sure if he still does it today, but if he does it's covered up by the sea of low-effort clickbait videos consisting of him just reading the news.

DA4 has an advantage over MEA and Anthem: the writing team is strong, the story is building off of the previous games (MEA used Mass effect lore but was writing the series out of the corner from the ME3 endings and clearly seemed like it was written by committee in order to continue the franchise). There was a roadmap for the series, even if it’s been rebooted now. Things against it: live service model, micro transactions, Frostbite, BioWare management. I do think if DA4 requires online access to play that will be an indication of GaaS winning over a singe player experience with live elements. I can only hope that they're getting it together.

As for whether bioware can compete with those games...yes they can. MEA wasnt able to hand with Horizon and once TW3 came out, DAI was exposed. Obviously Anthem....the game made by Bioware's A team was a flop. All while the quality of games increases and games like Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima and CP 2077 will set high bars for storytelling and environments. Nothing in the past 2 years has shown that Bioware can hang with that level of quality. And the sad part about that is that BioWare has tremendous potential to make high quality games, but they just fell from grace. if it wasn't for EA, mismanagement, politics on the workplace, being disorganized, and many other problems they could be on top of their game.

I'm assuming his videos are monetized, which means he is doing it as a profession which I would say crosses the line from being just a person making reviews to being a professional critic/journalist. In which case, that objectivity needs to exist. I mean considering that there are some who look to him as a legitimate source, some objectivity is needed. Haven't seen much from him lately. TBH neither have I really in ercen ttimes the only thing I've agreed with him is the fact tthat it's a good move from Sony t orelease Horizon Zero Dawn to PC. Other than that I've not mysel fagreeing wit hhim on many things at all.

EA's game business model is predicated on back-end online revenue. Their quarterly financials statements clearly indicate this for years. EA gloats over how much money they rake in with this model. It's a cash cow with zero to little costs.
DA4 game design engineers will develop this game with that business model at its core. In my mind the studio has no choice. It is a direct directive from EA corp. As a reminder, EA cancelled recent game designs that did not fit this model...
Now my understanding is that EA allows their studios to implement this model any way they want... as long as that cash keeps coming in after the game is sold. But this very mandate hobbles old aRPG designs. Example: How will DA4 keep players gaming once the story arc is finished? ... Where is the focus in the design effort to ensure players stay or keep coming back?

Example: How will DA4 keep players gaming once the story arc is finished? ... Where is the focus in the design effort to ensure players stay or keep coming back? "Live Service" doesn't necessarily have to be bad thing. Games like AC: Odyssey, Fortnite, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, No Man's Sky have Events, Holiday Specials, Mini-Games, Side-Quests, New Gear, New Monsters/Mounts/Pets, Crafting, Cosmetic Items, Photo Mode Contests, etc.. Maybe take a page out of Fortnite's book, and have an events that starts as small mysteries that unfold over time? Custom Home/Base Building? Business Building? Nug Farms? Surreal events that take place in the Fade? Party in the Fade? Celebrating Thedas Holidays with fun events and minigames? Something like AC's Discovery Tour, but maybe have helpful spirits in the Fade to convey history & lore in the area you're in? Just roll them out incrementally with rewards. AC Odyssey had an overpriced cosmetics store, but they offered pieces from those sets (changing weekly), mounts, epic gear you could purchase with an in-game currency. Repeatable quests took place in random locations across the map, changed it up in some way (random mercenaries & possibly pets, different ships) and offered higher tier currency, XP, gold, gear, unique cosmetic items. AC also has a very solid Photo Mode community, which is another way to keep people coming back, especially if you have a gorgeous OW game.

Their online store is so overpriced (I'm in Canada btw) that there's no temptation at all to buy anything from it. It's beautiful... (It'd be worse if they were actually affordable...)

While it is a depressing model, it is likely better than what DA4 will have as far as games as a service. AC:O is single player, which EA won't allow for DA4. Also, AC:O can be played offline. Not sure if DA4 will be able to be played offline or not.

Yeah, whatever their plans are (some MP component for sure), I don't expect them to suddenly turn DA4 into a pure MP or Anthem-style game. It would be far too risky for this franchise, especially for a 4th game in the series. I can only imagine how an announcement like that would go down. People would go thermonuclear... *shiver*

See, I would much rather MP and SP stay as far away from each other as possible. It's highly like that DA4 will have a multiplayer component and, while I'm not thrilled about the waste of resources, I'm okay with having a separate MP mode that I can just ignore.
The AC Odyssey style of bleeding multiplayer shithousery into single player is gross.

If they’re bringing back the war table than I bloody well hope so! The amount of times I’ve wished to skip a fifteen hour wait time in DAI by playing a quick and fun multiplayer mission is ridiculous.

If EA wants Dragon Age to have live service, they should use the Red Dead Redemption 2/Grand Theft Auto V model (single player campaign with a separate online mode). That model has made Rockstar Games a shit ton of money.

AC Odyssey is such a depressing model for what DA4 could be. The game completely ruins immersion by trying to sell you useless crap. It's commendable that they support their single player games for so long after release. I mean Steep and For Honor still get content updates. That is insane. But they tie so much of it into their paid DLC so it's two steps forward, one step back.

Why on earth would we expect additional content after release to be free? It's still real work being done by real people who need to eat and pay rent.
You guys realise that the choice is not between paid content and free content, right? It's between paid content and nothing.

I mean yes I know the ingame store is a thing but its off in its own seperate corner of the menu. I only spent about five minutes in there browsing for a couple of things and then when I didn't see them or saw that they weren't *worth it* I left, and never bothered to go back. The game didn't really ever try and *sell me* anything....I mean I guess maybe when I opened up the menu before actually hitting 'resume' to get to the actual game...but again very easy for me to ignore. Besides I am sure Hrungr can correct me if I am wrong but I beieve everything in there is gettable in game, if you just grind for some oricalcum and then go to the random Oikos of the Olympians gift shop. Sure its random and may take awhile...just ask Jorraptor about his quest for the Hades Lieutenant, but honestly for me its a sensible system...want something specific? Spend money. Want something but not willing to pony up, deal with loot boxes. Again the game is never advertising these things in the game itself so I spent the entire campaign ignoring it and only went on youtube occasionally to see if a pack was worth it...and they weren't.
