You guys sure are fast, only now I left Serene and stopped when I arrived at New Serene. I took my time looting every crate and entering every door and screwing myself with the Nauts because I killed a bunch of them.
I'm surprised with how much Spiders spent on an area that we probably will never go back. That's good, though.

I took my time looting every crate and entering every door and screwing myself with the Nauts because I killed a bunch of them. I'm surprised with how much Spiders spent on an area that we probably will never go back. That's good, though. Heh, I'm glad I got my hands on a sailor uniform by accident early, or I'd have made the same mistake. Yeah, I like that they put a lot of effort into making Serene feel both like a believably enlightened and well-organized place, and enough of a hellhole to make you glad to be rid of it. It's a lot harder hit by the plague than the trailers made it look. The feeling that civilization might actually be about to come crashing down gives events on Teer Frade another sense of importance. Also helps the idea that De Sardet feels s/he has nothing worthwhile to go back to, in the case of him/her going native. I also like that they haven't adopted Bioware's "all parents are either dead, jerks or outright psychotic" philosophy. De Sardet has a sweet and respectful and completely positive relationship with his mother, and orders tells Jonah-the-cabin-boy to at least stop by his parents' house and say farewell to his before returning to the Nauts even though the they aren't familial in any real sense. Even Constantin's disapproving dad sounds more like a sensible prince with entirely warranted concerns about his son's irresponsible behavior. Only "bad dad" so far is Jonah's, and even he is kind of understandable.

What does Siora mean about De Sardet looking like a native? And Constantin commented that the two could be mistaken for siblings. She talks about "wearing the marks with pride", and De Sardet mentions people having looked strangely at him on the Continent. As in the malichor mark on his cheek which nobody in the prologue mentioned at all? Wouldn't that be a hugely insensitive thing for Constantin to call a resemblance? Does De Sardet even have the malichor, or are the marks something else? I'm totally confused, and feel like I skipped something. The markings were mentioned a few times in the prologue area, but you couldn't ask anyone to clarify. A Malichor sign perhaps? Or a future plot point? Frankly, I put a beard on my Sardet and you can barely even see the mark
It took me about 3 hours to finish everything in Serene and I stopped just after the first boss battle. So far, the game feels really nice. With everything on Ultra and maximum FoV on 1440p it runs steady at around 80 FPS and above. Of course I expect this to drop a bit in a dense open area. Surprisingly the graphics are pretty good. The city looked great with lots of detail. The animations are also much better than what I expected. Even the faces are ok, although it's definitely something that can be polished further. Still better than MEA.
I get DA2 vibes (the good kind!) for some reason. Running around the first city reminds me what Kirkwall might have been. At the ending of a couple of quests the game even offered to move me directly to NPCs at the other side of town, instead of forcing me to run there. I loved this option in DA2. It's nice to see the developers are not afraid to give the players nice QoL features for a tighter story experience. Because there are games so afraid of their lacking story content that they try their hardest to make you run all over a huge map to get a short convo (Kingdom Come Deliverance, I am looking at you).
Combat so far is pretty ok. Even, dare I say it, potentially fun? I went for a gun build since my De Sardet looks like he has all issues of "Muskets and gunpowder". The damage is really nice, but the ammo requirement balances it...maybe? The armor damage you get up the skill tree destroys those pesky shields easily. Parrying and dodging is straightforward. I haven't touched magic yet.
The prologue area is a bit obnoxious about presenting the game's features Sneak around, use skills, use disguises, talk your way out, craft items - all available to solve a quest in whatever way you want. I like the disguise mechanic. Making a mental note to keep a suit for every faction. And it was nice to see the Technomancer's crafting system refined (a bit I think). If it follows the same rules, it's better not to dismantle items before you get your chances for components at about 75%. Of course there is a weight limit on your character. I wonder if companions raise it depending on their special traits like in Technomancer.
Our faction is a Merchant one. With a pretty neutral stance it seems. Why do I feel like a Misthios again? I was expecting that we will be invested in a certain way (religion, conquest, etc.), but the developers gave us as much of a blank slate as possible. How can I subdue the natives now, without feeling like a total jerk? The malichor angle I guess.
I was really, really, REALLY torn in the starting screen. I am a Charisma junkie and always want more of it. But I remember how much I suffered with the Technomancer's starting area with all it's locked chests taunting me... So I went with Lockpicking. Didn't regret it. I found only one dialogue option for Charisma in the prologue, but I sure unlocked my fair share of chests! $$$
So, first impressions are quite solid and promising. I am looking forward to continuing my journey tonight. Promised lands, fear me!!!
Edit: forgot to mention that I noticed too late that Kurt's chestpiece has a "Lockpicking +1". It's nice of Spiders to put such a hidden sort of a "cheat" for the poor folks who didn't pick Lockpicking as a starting skill, but have keen eyes and inspect every piece of gear

It's not too expensive. I saw two Charisma options in the prologue and probably missed a few others as I didn't pick the pacifist approach all the time. The thing I needed in the prologue but didn't find was a +1 Science though, but I managed without it.

"<changes hat> Just let me lockpick this chest, now don't talk to me until I quickly change my underwear in order to see better the hidden meaning in your words. And then I have to switch my gloves because that lady over there has a high Charisma check."
I know of which Science check you talk about

Only "bad dad" so far is Jonah's, and even he is kind of understandable. Some people have no problem giving away things they don't own yet...and regret it afterward. See politiciens. I basically blackmailed him. I also lied to both the Thélème and Bridge Alliance in the prologue. I'm starting to like playing this type of not honest pacifist diplomate. I mean, I need to keep the Congregation safe from those two power hungry neighbors, so what's better than pitting them against each others (I hope I can do that on the island). I actually really like how the quests have various way of being resolved and it's not always "in your face" unlike what some reviewers claims. Sure dialogues will have charisma/intuition options, but you can find back passages or even gather informations that gives you other options.

However I suspect the factions know what you did. But since that is how the game is played, they also play along. They can't afford (yet) a diplomatic incident by accusing you of lying without solid evidence. And since you are being diplomatic (instead of telling them in the face that you won't support them) they are also diplomatic and even give you some respect. Besides, if you take a neutral stance in the Serene's quests, you still help the ambassadors. Yes, you didn't solve the issues, but you managed to make them someone else's problem instead.

I actually reloaded after making Salim angry (and losing 2 reputations) the first time when I accused him of using me to do his own dirty work (it didn't affect the XP or money reward though which I liked). That's when I shifted to being shifty though.

Holy shit, this game is big. I’m still in New Serene, trying to explore every building and complete the quests.
Someone here tried the Arena yet? Is it hard? I was leave it for later, but the native merchant quest sent me there.

I was leave it for later, but the native merchant quest sent me there. I am up to the third challenge. Not so hard on the Normal difficulty. You can try to leave your companions to tank while you attack any wounded targets from behind.
Edit: Those bats were sure tough for a level 6. But I finally got the hang of it. Draw as much of them on me as possible and Dodge around while the team slaughters them.

The Unknown Beast at the harbor is proving to be a b*tch and a half.
I get him down to about half health and he starts doing these flying tackles it's almost impossible to dodge,
Edit: Aaaand, I got it almost immediately after posting. Just have to use Stasis A LOT

I'm kinda annoyed I can't play as soon as I get back from work tonight. Doesn't help that this game totally has the "just one more quest before bed" issues. I'm also thinking of restarting to try magic and heavy weapons and maybe see some of the other quest options in the prologue. I'm still wondering if I should try to please everyone, lie to everyone, stick to the truth, act super greedy or piss them off. In other word, how morally compromisable should my De Sardet be. Especially, when every factions seems to have questionable ethics. So that's my plan for tonight in Greedfall.

Sure dialogues will have charisma/intuition options, but you can find back passages or even gather informations that gives you other options. Yeah, it's the classic white collar criminal mindset. Work hard exploiting the law at every opportunity raising yourself above others until you really feel like you deserve something you don't have any right to, and then the rules obviously shouldn't apply to you. And then stick your head in the sand and try to ignore the consequences when they catch up with you. Ugh. I blackmailed him too, but I was ready to just draw steel and kill him in that cellar. What a selfish pig. Knowingly causing a diplomatic incident and shrugging it off as someone else's problem, namely my family's. Is that treason? It kinda feels like treason. I was actually uncomfortable leaving him walking the street wondering what other insane schemes he'd be able to justify to himself. But hopefully having this one blow up in his face like it did will scare him off in the future. I think I made everyone happy except for the lynched alchemist, the dead historians and Jonah's entitled parents. Fits my character's modus operandi of not being too bothered with a little death and misery so long as it serves peace and the greater good. And yup. I actually shot myself in the foot by playing a character with no interest in either magic or science. While you guys are blowing up walls that get in your way, picking locks, forging bullets and brewing useful concoctions for quests, and downing poison antidotes like milk, I have to run around looking for keys, conserve ammo and dodge like a motherfucker to avoid getting poisoned by those damn bats. After a while I decided to go all-in on the warrior thing and invest in effective plate armor and a greatsword. Janvier looks very dashing as an armored legate now, and the two-handed sword gameplay is actually really fun and effective. I just wish weapons didn't phase into our bodies when sheathed, which also seems a little inconsistent with companions. It looks silly to pull a greatsword out of thin air. The Arena is tough on Extreme difficulty. I had to stop halfway through the first challenge and wait until I leveled up more, breezed through the second with my new greatsword and am a little stuck in the third until I get my companions some proper armor too so they'll last a little longer. Also, Hikmet is enormous and gorgeous. I was completely shocked, even though the Bridge Alliance isn't making a great impression on me otherwise. I thought New Serene was the hub and the other towns were ambassadorial outposts, but it looks like each is a real city in its own right, and even bigger and grander than Serene at that. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Theleme headquarters now.

What does Siora mean about De Sardet looking like a native? And Constantin commented that the two could be mistaken for siblings. Does De Sardet even have the malichor, or are the marks something else? I'm totally confused, and feel like I skipped something. Played that scene just now. It's about the mark in your face, only certain natives as it like Siora (she call those who have it an "on owl mangialwy" <= totally misspelled). So when Siora sees you for the first time, she try to talk to you in the native language (which nobody understand at that point) because she thinks you are a native. Then Constantin simple act like Constantin and he think the mark is enough for you to be a sibling of Siora. The only thing you skipped is your Tir Fridian language classes.

In the tutorial city. What the heck
Random mooks attack you in town and no explanation? I guess they're the sick, poor, and downtrodden seeing a well fed youthful rich person? At least they're not attacking where guards are just standing there.

Then Constantin simple act like Constantin and he think the mark is enough for you to be a sibling of Siora. The only thing you skipped is your Tir Fridian language classes. So the marks on De Sardet's face and the symptoms of the Malichor are supposed to be visually distinct from each other. Huh. They could have made that more obvious.

I really don't like religion or this Cardinal. Wonder if there is an effect to that faction if I skip hunting down his heretics Ooo, Bridge Alliance. Plot thickens. ...dead bodies and dead birds and Ill. "The prince" doesn't seem to be handling things well. Doesn't this make their nation a sitting duck ? Had to really think about the Charlatan. Decided De Sardet would think of her Mum and the fact that this guy may be the closest to a cure on this continent.

So the marks on De Sardet's face and the symptoms of the Malichor are supposed to be visually distinct from each other. Huh. They could have made that more obvious. Malichor is black and dark red veins and cataracts. De Sardet's mark is a patch of bark-like green stuff. People believed the mark was the Malichor because we actually never saw what the actual malichor symptoms until playing the game. There might still be a connection, considering Saint-Matheus, the creator of the Thélème, went to the island around like 200 years ago with some followers and his followers eventually came back. You learn that in the Heretics quest if you ask questions to the historians. ...dead bodies and dead birds and Ill. "The prince" doesn't seem to be handling things well. Doesn't this make their nation a sitting duck ? It's a neutral merchant city state that has no army outside what its coins can pay for, but luckily for them the Bridge Alliance and Thélème are too busy murdering each others to bother too much with them right now. I think it's Cardinal Antonius that mention it's worst in the countries around Sérène too... and now you know why everyone wants to go to the miraculous island: the rest of the world is a shithole.

I did NOT like that I had to kill people to get the Charlatan to his cart. I even took the back route and tried to stealth and I guess I just sucked at it.
I DID like that I could lie to the Bridge Alliance about it 😎

I DID like that I could lie to the Bridge Alliance about it 😎 You sucked! I only killed two...so I sucked too, but I didn't take the longest route possible that probably avoided most enemies. Also, I think you can convince the mobs to disperse before leaving the tavern, but I skipped that part so I don't know the prerequisites.

I DID like that I could lie to the Bridge Alliance about it 😎 I bought off the mob by giving them healing potions I crafted. Didn't have to kill anyone.

Doing Kurt's personal quests in New Serene certainly makes the plae out to be a wretched hive of scum and villainy...

Just became Arena champion. The enemy in the last fight is badass, and by far the fastest boss I've seen yet. It has one attack that's really easy to parry and a lot that almost can't be. Parrying and dodging and angling it so Kurt and Siora stayed mostly behind it, whittling it down while I kept its attention worked best for me. That works on most of the minibosses, really. They're incredibly hard to stun, so don't get greedy if you go on the offensive.
One hit at most and then back to parrying, and there's no shame in interrupting your attack to parry and wait for a better moment instead.
