I go with 2022 (H2). DA4 would take at least 2 years for full production and it would definitely be on next-gen platforms. As for other games, I'm looking forward to Halo: Infinite, Age of Empires 4, Baldur's Gate 3, and Mount & Blades 2.

I'm glad that I'm at least slightly more relaxed about this since the announcement of Baldur's Gate 3. Not that we have a release date for that one, either, but I bet it's closer than DA4.
Other than that, at least I've got The Waylanders to look forward to, and maaaaaybe Greedfall, The Outer Wolds and VtM: Bloodlines 2. (Greedfall if it's decent, The Outer Worlds and/or Bloodlines if they seem functional enough on a Swtich in handheld mode that I can play them without getting sick.)
I imagine I will also spend a lot of that time playing Pokemon, even if I'm currently in two minds about whether to buy SwSh at launch.

I said 2021 H2. It feels like it has been too long. At this point I'm getting a bit irritated we still have to wrap up the Solas storyline and I'm more ready to move onto something else instead. It has just become too drawn out and all of the Solas teases are starting to feel old and played out with the game still years away.
For other games I'm looking forward to The Waylanders. May also check out Greedfall. I don't play too many games these days so that probably makes the wait for DA4 seem even worse.

I wonder if BW is still looking into making smaller, experimental games on the side... "I think some of the things that are coming, in the way that we're doing things in BioWare and the way that EA is working and the industry is going, I think it is starting to afford the opportunity for us to do some things that are more experimental," Hudson said.
"I would like to get to a place where, yes, we're doing our big next thing, but maybe we're also kind of doing a few experiments. I want to get to where we can kind of do the equivalent of getting short films out there to people and saying, 'Hey, we got a bunch of things we want—creative ideas we want to get out. And so try this piece and have a look at this thing.' And kind of see what people like."
Darrah echoed Hudson's desire to become more experimental in the future, saying he believes that triple-A publishers can "start diversifying the scale of their games" in the future—"making big things, that are big, huge experiences, but also maybe starting to deliver some smaller experiences that are intended to be consumed more quickly."
"I think there are things that people can do in the indie space that are kind off limits in the HD space, just because people's expectations rise with, not just the budgets but with the studio," he said. "I think there's middle ground. I've heard it called 'triple-A indie,' which is that sort of high production value, but still smaller scale, smaller budget."

I voted h2 2022 even though it pained me to do so. I’ve basically been laying face down on the floor in various rooms of my house since reading the ‘update’, wailing in agony and validating my depression by lurking on bsn and seeing I’m not the only one.
Dragon Age is my favorite series. I do have other games in the near-ish future (Greedfall, Luigi’s Mansion, Outer Worlds, Pokémon, CP2077...) I’m looking forward to, but even when I finish a fun new game I end up looking longingly out my window and wishing I was playing DA4 instead.

With EA in charge an "experimental game" is probably still a multiplayer game stuffed with microtransactions, just with lower production costs. After Anthem, I don't have high hopes for any new IPs from Bioware.

They barely managed to get Anthem out with all their resources devoted to it. I don't see how they can handle multiple projects at once.

They barely managed to get Anthem out with all their resources devoted to it. I don't see how they can handle multiple projects at once. You can make small, indie-style games with only a tiny team, and I remember an article talking about the issue of idling devs during DA:I's pre-production. So I wonder if this might be the reasoning behind it. With Anthem and Star Wars needing only support teams, and Dragon Age still in pre-production (and therefore don't need a full production team yet), there might be people they can spare for side projects like this.

I voted 2023 (H2). They're still in preproduction, and if they want to break the super-crunchy cycle of declining quality that plagued their recent releases, they'll need three years of development for an AAA RPG. That would put us into 2022, plus the usual delay to fix things and add some PC controls at the last minute, and voilà, 2023 is here.
Which is fine with me, since in their current state their games aren't a high priority automatic preorder for me anymore. Hopefully DA4 can make the setting more interesting again.

I am expecting Bioware to exhaust the full 4 years full development extension Schreier reported DA4 got, so a Q4 2023 release, that will inevitably be (not) delayed to Q1 2024. If I were EA, I would have given them a mandate for Q4 2022 and then surprise them by giving them an extension for Q4 2023, giving them a whole year to polish what they should have started making in 2020, but got hung up on pre-production till 2021 and scrambled in 2022.

In practice, remember DAI's one year delay followed by another one month delay? Many games get delayed these days and the more complex they are, the bigger the probability of extra QA and bug fixes being needed. And that's the optimistic scenario, one that assumes that BioWare fixes their internal leadership problems and has a normal development cycle. The pessimistic one is that history repeats itself, development time gets squandered for whatever reason and then the game is completed in one hellish crunch from start to finish. I for one hope they start with a clear vision of what they want their game to be, take their time and do their thing. But that requires, well... time.

I for one hope they start with a clear vision of what they want their game to be There use to be one, but it got scraped to fit the " Live Service" model. I keep reading that in Jim Sterling's voice. That " Live Service". take their time and do their thing. But that requires, well... time. And then they'll be back for the next Schreier article going "If only we had more time".

The pessimistic one is that history repeats itself, development time gets squandered for whatever reason and then the game is completed in one hellish crunch from start to finish. yeah they took 2 years production time and made it 3. i won't be surprised if that was a forseen possibility. from my experience, project managers often make a scedule tighter then needed in case the need to expend it won't be possible. in dragon age inquisition case, it was possible. so i think they plan for 2022 but make the date of 2021. of course that pure guess on my part, but bare in mind, that there is always room for improvement, at some point you need to make a release same, if it will be 2023, so be it, i just don't think it's likely to take that long, even if they take their time. assuming they start production this year (which is likely), 3 years including the extra time, should be fine.

I guessed 2022 which is just... ~sigh~
Part of me just wants to forget about Bioware for a couple of years and come back happily surprised.
The only games that are really on my radar in the interim are Greedfall (never played anything by Spiders before though so I'm holding off till reviews drop), who seem to be gunning for the Bioware crowd hard Bloodlines 2 and Cyberpunk. Maaaybe the Outer Worlds but the setting and the whole vibe of the return of 'good old gaming' doesn't really appeal to me. I'll almost definitely enjoy Starfield too and I'm hearing Paradox is gonna announce a new game at their convention and I am hoping SO MUCH for a fantasy CK2 game.

I voted for early 2023 H1, with a tentative hope for 2022 H2. I gotta admit, even knowing the reboot was a thing, the acknowledgment that DA4 is in pre-production made me kinda sad. I suppose I had myself convinced the game was a bit further into development than that.

I'm going with a very optimistic holiday 2020 with a possible delay into March 2021. I have a feeling they're trying to pull a FO4...with it kind of dropping out of the blue. Doesn't mean it will be great...and based on the last two games it'll probably be fraught with a host of issues that will piss off as many people as it satisfies. It is ludicrous the interval at which they release followups...EA must be doing a fair amount of underwriting to keep them in operation.

I think they will release it in alpha state (for a full product price) in Q4 2022. Then probably need about 6 months to get stuff working like you can expect from a beta state version (and unsurprisingly get the same backlash as Andromeda has suffered). To finally release the full product (probably not for free) around Q4 2023 (because that's the time people like to spend money, and have forgotten they already payed a full price to start with).
Do not forget - They gone to the "Game As Service" road, and dumped the real game that was in development. That means you probably get a cut-down bug-riddled (alpha state) full-price version at release, because they can promise you to let the game "grow" like Anthem does. They do not have to deliver the final product, because the "Game As Service" model will solve all your game problems by miracle.
Oh - And do not forget, because EA is involved, we probably get a Dragon-Theme-Based Casino in every town where you can spend real money (in-game currency that can be bought in the on-line store), and of course the very expensive special items (gather 10 lootboxes for $10 a piece or 1000 hour grind a piece, to give you the right to buy that item for only $40).
Yeah - I do not have confidence in most bigger game developers latest years. Can you blame me?

It doesnt come fast enough, of course, but in the meantime I enjoy their latest, and older ones. Played through 4th time DAI recently and 3rd time on MEA going at the moment, enjoying the hell out of it, even more than the 2 times before!
I want it now basically.
