I love day/night and seasonal changes, it adds a great deal to my experience in open world areas. Alternatively, I also really liked the way BioWare handled the day night cycle in Jaws of Hakkon where the day slowly progressed with the story. If they decided to roll with that in DA4 instead, I think it would be great.

I think a day/night cycle with weather and seasonal changes would be pretty snazzy. A toggle would be nice though. I found myself using console commands in TW3 a lot because of the overwhelming amount of rain.

I've said it before but I say it again, they had genuine day/night cycles, 24 hour clock and changes in weather in Baldur's Gate, 20 years ago, so it seems strange that Bioware have not bothered with it in more recent games. The difference being, I suppose, that then we were playing D&D and it was meant to be a proper recreation of the pen & paper experience. There were creatures that only came out at night and races which had an advantage/disadvantage in such situations. There are no comparable races/creatures in Thedas.
Having a day/night cycle might have made the Hissing Wastes more bearable. It made no sense to me anyway that it was endless night every time we went there. It was also strange back in DA2 that the city was dead after dark, apart from the various groups that prowled the streets. Whilst that might explain why everyone kept indoors, we were meant to have a city guard and most large cities have areas that come alive at night. If we do get any major cities in DA4, I hope they are properly populated and if they have a day/night cycle, even if it is only a toggle version like DA2, that they have a vibrant night life.

I just wanted to add that originally, DA:I was to have day/night cycles, as well as dynamic weather. They also mentioned sandstorms that could force you to seek shelter.
But alas... game development.

If they do it, I want it to be dynamic and have timed quests attached.
Otherwise it's window dressing and a waste of time.

Day night cycles are really good for immersing me in the world. I don't think there's a game I've seen do it wrong. As for seasonal cycles BDO has a weather system that makes snow build up n stuff and it does an amazing job of real time weather change. Its not a stand in for ACUTAL seasonal change but you can make it work. I would love for DA4 to have both of theses but I doubt they'll do seasons but maybes some diverse weather.

Like that trailer shot of the Inquisitor pulling themselves up in a sandstorm? A good number of us were convinced that was where the game started. Nope, mountain. Although...if you like deserts....

It made no sense to me anyway that it was endless night every time we went there I think the point they were trying to make was it was too hot there in the day time to do anything, so you would only move around at night. So, it wasn't endless night so much as implying we only did anything at night because if we tried during the day we'd die of heat exhaustion or dehydration in about 5 minutes.

The funny thing is in deserts at night you can get hypothermia. There's some extreme temperatures changes when you don't have cloud cover combine that with people wearing warm climate clothing and bingo time to freeze. speaking of hypothermia/hyperthermia I would love for that to factor into game play in certain climates like the mod frostfall for skyrim. Only if it makes sense though! I know many people who'd be pissed to high heaven about adding it in though so... maybe in my dreams xD

I'd love day/night cycles! I don't mind if with toggle (I quite liked it in DA2, actually) or dynamic. I'd leave seasonal changes connected to the story, but those would be great too! Expecially if quests are connected to those changes: like having to hunt a creature that only came out at night, or having to wait the change of the guards to enter a palace, etc.
Plus I like seeing how certain place can look with a different light.

Going to go out on a limb here and say I really dislike when RPGs try to simulate the passage of time. It always ends up being this weird uncanny-valley time where nothing is consistent with how long it “should” take. Better to keep time slightly more abstract, so we’re not sitting here thinking things like “ok, I spent 3 whole days fucking around on this ridge to find the absolute highest point I could reach on my horse.”
The speed of the hero should be something internal to them, not based on the focus/navigation abilities of the player. Plus, it makes me extremely anxious... can’t even grab a snack without pausing the game so I don’t run through internal timers.
Now, if it’s totally cosmetic, I could live with that. I personally don’t see the appeal of seeing the exact same map in different lighting, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

And anyway, all this stuff is predicated on the assumption that the next DA game will be more open-world, which we don't know and which I personally don't want.

Persona;lly for me it just makes sense for the game to just use what works best for the story they want to tell.
