Great to see another of your videos! I wouldn't put too much faith in the idea that every Chevalier has roamed the streets in a drunken state, seeking city elves to murder. That idea only came out in one of the novels, not a DA codex, and I find it rather far-fetched. I don't doubt that some of the worst Chevaliers might do something so brutal, but I would expect it to be a tiny minority and not a widespread practice - I think Patrick Weekes got a little carried away in trying to depict the arrogance and casual cruelty of Orlesian nobles.

Glad you liked it! I tend to agree that weekes went a bit overboard. I will treat it as canon until contradicted though. That being said, on further thought, I doubt all Chevalier end up doing it. It sounded more like an informal hazing/initiation ritual that I’m sure some of them got around and I don’t think they really check to be sure. Others certainly probably got dumped on the street and didn’t kill anyone, either from being too drunk or simply unwilling.

I tend to agree that weekes went a bit overboard. The Chevalier ritual he describes might fall in the same category as his depiction of the Dalish. I didn't recognise that clan from any of those I had encountered in game or previous codices about their attitude towards city elves. However, my revulsion with the Chevaliers dated to DAO and meeting that girl in the market place who was a refugee from Orlais. Whilst not all Chevalier may insist upon their "rights" with the common people, the fact that the law of Orlais allows it was enough to condemn them in my eyes. It is why I had some sympathy with Loghain's paranoia about Orlais, that is until he decided it was okay to sell elves into slavery to fund his war. I've never understood why a ruler would encourage the custom of face masks either but I must admit I thought that was just in civilian life not the battlefield. Was quite surprised to encounter so many soldiers with fully masked faces, which is not the same a helmet, in DAI. Mind you at the Winter Palace the fact the guards had masks contradicted what PW had written in Masked Empire, where he specifically states they are an exception because of the need to be able to identify them and spot any substitutions. Then again, in Masked Empire no one was permitted to bring a sword into the palace, apart from the guards, yet apparently the members of the Inquisition had done so.
