ME: A - 2017
Anthem - 2019
DA: 4 - 2022?
In terms of time between Bioware's game it is about right. Longest gap is between DA: I and ME:A and gap between Anthem and DA:4 will be that if it comes out Fall 2022. However, in terms of franchise gap it will be 8 years between DA games (assuming 2022 release). Bioware's has a 2-3 year gap between sequels, with the only exception being the 5 years between ME:3 and ME:A. (Not counting Star Wars since KOTOR and SWTOR are different genres completely) Interested to see how they handle this since more time to make the game seems like it would be good but we all saw what happened when Bioware was given a ton of time to do ME: A and even more to do Anthem.

The 8 years span is howewer due the project of DA4 being basically scrapped and restarted all over. While you're right on the times given for recent games not leading to necessarily excellent titles (with Anthem even worse then MEA), they both suffered for peculiar situations and a problematic culture problem in Bioware. Hopefully what Hudson said after the scandal leaked by Kotaku is the start of a new era, maybe signaled by the new building they work in. And hopefully EA takes the lesson of other developers and the SW game they're publishing right now to understand that there's place for heavy single content games/RPG, that can still be widely successful.

It fits my prediction of a late 22 / early 23 release but oof. I was hoping the more optimistic predictions would win the day. It will be EIGHT YEARS since DAI dropped. I feel old. Hitting middle age is giving me all kinds of anxiety.

I don’t want to live in a world I have to wait eight years between sequels of anything I love. Movies, books, games.
I just don’t think a good game needs to take that long. Ugh.

It shouldn't, but the project was scrapped and restarted. While it'd be 8 years, it's not 8 years of development, as the new project, the one that'll be DA4, started later then 2014-15.

While I do understand that any news a all is going to be treated with a certain degree of...discussion around here...and while this is indicitive of one of my theories on DA 4s release date...ultimatley we really don't know anymore then when we started. Inside sources and speculation is just hard to judge properly so as good as this woman's info might be, as much as she might be right, I would caution anyone into assuming she's right either.

I go with 2022 (H2). DA4 would take at least 2 years for full production and it would definitely be on next-gen platforms. As for other games, I'm looking forward to Halo: Infinite, Age of Empires 4, Baldur's Gate 3, and Mount & Blades 2. It seems that I guessed well.

I know it's not a game that a lot of people here are concerned (or care) about, but the next Battlefield game also won't be releasing until at least April 2021. It seems as though EA is trying to give their non-sports, AAA studios more time to develop their games. EA also reported that their live service is performing "above" expectations as well, so more than likely, this is going to become a mainstay with pretty much all their AAA titles at this point.
EDIT: If I may add two more points to this discussion, one of BioWare's developers (I think it was Gaider) had already stated that it was a mistake for them to release Inquisition on both last gen and current gen consoles, as it basically limited the amount of freedom they had; and why Trespasser (and it's subsequent update) needed to be next-gen only. Having DA4 be solidified on a next-gen platform would probably be to BioWare's benefit. Another thing I want to mention is that the game is likely still in pre-production at this point not just because elements were removed to allow for live-service, but it was also revealed that Hudson had the team exchange the DA:I engine in favor of Anthems. This likely means that they needed to go back and redo certain models, animations, and underlying tech to get the game back to where they left it.

Looks like a result of the entire game being rebooted.
Now I question why the game was revealed so early.

Yeah, except I don't want to have to upgrade to a PS5 just because they fannied about with Anthem for a million years instead of getting on with the game people actually wanted. And for all that BioWare likes to say that adapting for older consoles meant drastic cutting of advertised features, I have yet to see ANYTHING from ANY GAME on my current black box that the previous black box could not have done adequately, even if it wouldn't have looked as nice. As you say, Tresspasser was current gen only, and it didn't bring anything new to the table in terms of gameplay, nor was it particularly amazing to look at.

As others said, why show the teaser at last years award thing if they were still four years away? It was after the supposed reboot so it’s not like they didn’t know about that. Kind of a jerky move to be honest.

Big oof. Was just thinking about a possible release date earlier today (if everything goes "well") and thought 2021 was realistic. Guess not then. Why they teased it so earlier again? I think that was a calculated move to counter the poor reception Anthem got, and try to wrap up the year on a positive note. The "BioWare is dooomed!" talk was running pretty high then, so they push out a little (non-specific) DA teaser to help quiet that down a bit.

Kind of a jerky move to be honest. They honestly probably goofed with that. I think they were feeling internal pressure to show something given all the rumors swirling around BioWare or anything (I was talking to a friend of mine on the subject of BioWare and DA 4 and his reaction was 'weren't they liquidated because of Anthem?')...so yeah probably a desperate attempt at saying 'hey we're here!, we're not dead, honest!'

The product will definitely be worth the wait in the end, and the comics will be nice. One would hope they knock it out of the park after that long though. I just can't imagine myself stewing about it for 3 years. Yikes.

You mean you didn't find the endless waves of Qunari (Trespasser) or darkspawn (Descent) to be new and exciting? Other than those combat encounters, I don't know what new features were so important. Then again, I'm on PC, so it was never something to which I had to pay attention.
