Bioware has changed, like some music bands it will create conflict between fans from the early period and the new releases Like Opeth or Mastodon when they were "bought" by Roadrunner/Warner and started completely ignoring/dissing their roots. Some fans were ok with that, other were offended.

I personally like MEA and in fact I'm half way through another playthrough atm but unfortunately there are quiet a few who didn't like it as well. I jus trty to jus tenjoy the game fo rwhat it is and not let the haters get to me it can be difficult at times and has made me think now and then of just going on a hiatus from here but so far I've not done so.

Fanbase is very split. Some want Andromeda 2. Some want more milky way. Some want more Shepard. I don't see more Shepard happening. I still want to see closure in Andromeda, and continue to see how that pans out, before returning to the Milky Way. I have no problem returning to the Milky Way, but I think they should finish stories (as much as any story can be finished) before moving on. Hard to make everyone happy, we will see what happens.

I get disagreements (for full disclosure a Shepard/OT fan but looking for ME:A on PC disk) but it seems quite hostile at times. Perhaps it’s just the texted word translating poorly.

Yeah I have no problem, with returning to the Milky way eventually either but I'd like to see Andromeda' s story finished first because for me I don' t think it is yet as there are just too many dangling threads left by MEA.

So much so I have used the “Happy Ending” mod ever since my first play through.

That was long before ME:A was even released. The current issue may be whether or not Bioware does a ME:A2, but the root disagreements go back much further.

Honestly, Bio boards have always been like this. Or even worse; the amount of hatred NWN got for not being BG3 was epic.
Although there does seem to be a bit more intellectual dishonesty nowadays. I don't remember seeing as many bad-faith arguments and outright lies on the old boards. But I think that's just a general cultural trend rather than anything specific to Bio fans.

Thought we were kinda on the same team here but I guess not. So did I back in 2017 when I joined, but when MEA came out, it was clear the 'no spehurd, no geim' crowd started the hate machine (simplified, dont crucify me -disclaimer) which divided a lot of people. It even went so far I had to read every day slanting of fex. MEAMP from people who never played it after the first time trying it out, with all the fixes&balancing that came afterwards (so they didnt know what they talked about anymore, but still presented it as a fact of information) and so on. Some of them even said its already dead back then, but I found out its me3mp which is dead.. no players since over 2 years ago I last tried ..

If you are in North America I don't think you will find that disk, if I remember correctly Gamestop was just selling codes in a box and Dragon Age: Inquisition was the last BioWare game you could physically buy for a PC.

I think we were mostly on the same team, some romance related local forum cataclysms notwithstanding, until the endings of ME3, which really polarized the fan base. Some people seem to carry a grudge even today, but on the positive side it's a sign of how engaging the Mass Effect trilogy was for many players.
Then came MEA with its confused marketing, well known problems at release and its change in overall writing tone but also with improved gameplay, and things went downhill from there.
And here we are! Welcome to the forum version of World War I trench warfare, where the best place is being on neither side.

I hear you, last year some guy tried to rip me a new one because I complimented his work.
The tolerance here is exactly what I expected.
Still, there's a few gems here if you're willing to dig.

I live in the country and have to connect via a hotspot on my cellphone (not lousy but not 50 GB!) for my desktop PC. ME:A is actually small compared to some games I've downloaded since. Like you, I live in the country and my internet sucks big time. To download my new games, I drive into the city and use a friend's internet since it takes me days at home to download most games now. Even when they have a disc, it's necessary to download the patches, which often takes as long as if I just downloaded the original game, which is already up to date with the pathes in the single download. Also, most DLC is download only these days. For me, it's worth the drive and a sleepover at my friends home to do my downloads there. If I didn't do it that way, I would think it would not be practical to buy any of the newer games since most seem to release these days with significant bugs and require at least one patch to be downloaded to be at all playable at release.

Yeah I think that's the last EA game that I was able to get on disc and given it's spread over 4 discs I can see wy threy've pretty much focused on jus tdoing things through Origin from now on. I personally miss those disc playing days as they do install a lot quicker. But I suppose buying games through download does save on shelf space. Pretty much most if not all EA games are only sold through downloadable means now on PC the only way you'll land a disc copy is to buy it on console.

yeah my internet's not bad but it's not perfect it usually takes at least 3 to 4 hours to download a game. But I have had games take a full day befoer though. usually I pla ysomething else though like Fifa or something slightly lower spec s othe game can still download smoothly and I don't get too much of a slowdown on what I'm doing either while I let it download in the background. I think the bigges tgame I'v egot is 100 gigs and I think that's Forza 7 but yeah most of my games aer about 50 though.

Public libraries are pretty good about letting you hook up your own devices, usually -- assuming you've got one nearby and they actually have broadband there.
Starbucks too, although if you're living someplace with a Starbucks chances are you don't have this problem anyway.

Long time lurker but just joined the board and now I find it easier to track ongoing discussions. One thing, which I suspected previously but thought isolated, is the level of animosity(?) between the original Trilogy fans and the ME:A folks when it comes to the future of the franchise. The snark and disdain is strong. Thought we were kinda on the same team here but I guess not. Most of the people that are left here are the die-hards who have strong opinions. Also, at this point it seems some forumites have decided to dislike other forumites and just argue with them for the sake of it in a rather unproductive way.
I loved the OT although the ending seemed pretty final and I don't see an easy way forward there. I liked Andromeda well enough to want them to continue the Ryder twins' story. Either way, if it's Mass Effect I'll probably buy it and enjoy it.
Try not to pick sides in the eternal wrangling and you should be ok.

I remember the Stargate Universe vs Stargate Atlantis debate was so toxic, one of the creators blamed Atlantis fans for killing Stargate Universe (which was incorrect but hey, emotions and all that lol).

Welcome to the forum version of World War I trench warfare. I think this in particular is also a function of not having any new things to talk about for over 2 years. People are reiterating the same arguments over and over and over. If you look really close, it is a very limited number of people who are having the same old arguments again and again. It's one reason I am not posting a lot here at the moment. If and when we get confirmation that BW is actually working on something and once we get more information on that, I hope some fresh wind will blow though this forum section. until then, I hardly find it surprising that it feels like always the same back and forth.
And in general, honestly, apart from very few specific circumstances and poster combinations, I don't find it particularly toxic.
