I think the fraternization angle can be avoided if we simply get away from the military backdrop. One thing I'd like for any future Mass Effect game is to essentially remove the military from our hard-locked affiliation from the start.

My apologies. I guess ME2 was actually the first game to do that since Cerberus was only paramilitary so didn’t have the same rules.

I guess ME2 was actually the first game to do that since Cerberus was only paramilitary so didn’t have the same rules. In a sense, MEA still has some military trappings, since there's a bit of a hierarchy that our hero answers to. The Initiative is technically civilian in nature, but it's still an organization that has at least a quasi-military aspect to it. Still, it's nice that the ship itself is entirely free from the need to have any kind of protocols that can make some things seem out of place. For all my issues with Mass Effect 2, the Cerberus SR2 does at least have this quality in its favor.
