I'm sure there are many reasons for why people got into Dragon Age, but in terms of what you all experienced while playing games in the franchise, what are you hoping BioWare can capture in the next game. I know tensions are running high with the studio, and so this question will run as a hypothetical to the more pessimistic/skeptical crowd; including me (skeptical). I'd still like to hear everyones opinion though.
For me, I really enjoyed the Crestwood area in its entirety. It had a good mix of action, lore building, and responsive decision changes that showcase the impacts of your decisions in the area (Water receding, brighter atmosphere, etc). On that latter point, it wasn't just the fact that the landscape changed, but it also opened up new areas to explore and new quests. I think if BioWare could do more to bring that to more areas of the game, it would better the choice-based narrative of the series.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that Crestwood was in DA:I

I'm just hoping that they keep the excellent character interactions from DAI. Given that it's illegal to say anything positive about DAI here, I'd figure I give a more unpopular opinion here.

Won't lie, I was disappointed with the Banter Bug being a thing when I did my first playthrough. On my second playthrough, after it was patched, there was a lot more to listen to and it made the experience out on the field much more enjoyable. Afterwards, I decided one day that I'd go on Youtube and see if I could find all the different character interactions and was shocked to see it was nearly 5hrs long! So yeah, I'd keep that too. I think my favorite was Iron Bull and Solas' mental chess match, and Cole commenting on Blackwalls sword size.

Moments that stand out and I'd like to see more of...
Origins - Landsmeet and the preceding work gaining the favour of "winnable" nobles.
Inquisition - the Wicked Grace 'team bonding' time. In fact, this is one thing I'd like to see a lot more of.

The Landsmeet in DAO, Meredith's entrance near the end of Act 2, and the duel between Lord what's-his-face and the Inquisitor. En garde!!! excellent.
And for a bonus moment. The chess match between Cullen and Inquisitor. excellent

Its hard for me to say what I want because they have done small things interesting across multiple games and I think if they put all of those types of moments in I think the game would be a disjointed mess.
Its not really just Dragon Age either its also for me things from Mass Effect. So if they are going to do imports a situation like Conrad Verner in Mass Effect 3 where a bunch of really small trivial things you did in the past in a single sequence would be nice. The other thing I would like to see is a more constructed areas for I am not a big fan of large open areas like Inquisition so more like the Swamp area (can't think of the name) in Inquisition.
The other thing is whatever they are going to be adding for live services to be kept to optional things, for I wouldn't mind if the mission table returned to fulfill that role and could be just ignored if I didn't want to participate.

Here are a few things I liked from previous games: - In DAI and Trespasser I liked the dynamics between Solas and the Inquisitor, and I would like to see these continue and have a satisfying conclusion in DA4. I also liked learning about elven lore and ancient elves and would like to see more of this in DA4.
- In Trespasser and ME2 I liked the pacing. I would like DA4 to be well-paced and not have filler or value-added content that wastes my time.
- In DAO I liked the variety of spells that mages could cast. I would like DA4 to have a large variety of spells to use in and out of combat--and maybe even occasionally as a conversation option. I would like a mage pc to really feel like a mage.
- I liked that DAO was single player and would like DA4 to be single player as well.
- Throughout the Dragon Age series companions are one of the strongest parts of the games. I would like DA4 to continue and expand on that with in-depth companion quests and interactions.
- I liked the close-up camera during conversations in DAO and DA2, and I hope it returns for DA4.

There's a few I can think of off the top of my head... - Some of the more memorable moments for me were when we had "opportunities for individual achievement". The Glory Proving, single combat with Loghain & the Arishok, and the Crime Wave questline in Denerim.
- Fun things to do outside of combat. The Trespasser & The Citadel DLCs had some fun things to do on the side. Some RPGs lean pretty heavily into hobbies and other side activities (eg. FFXV). Would like to see more of this, especially in the core game.
- The Crestwood example is a good one. Being able to change a region through your actions, and in turn create new opportunities.
- More opportunities to get the entire group together, and talking amongst themselves (not just standing idle waiting for you to interact with them) - like the game of Wicked Grace. It happens so rarely though. I would love to see get-togethers on a regular basis - strategy meetings, parties, shopping... you name it. Watch how those relationships change over time.
- Cinematic Finishers like we had in DA:O. Ogres, Dragons, decapitating Darkspawn... God of War reminded me how much I missed those in DA.
- Protagonist with an interesting personality. Sarcastic Hawke is my favorite protag... personality-wise. And this comes back to the (eternal) argument over blank slate vs more defined personality. The "blank slate" Inquisitor met a lot of interesting people, and did interesting things, but wasn't a very interesting person themselves. The onus was on who they were talking to, to make the conversations interesting. Hawke on the other hand was always the most interesting person in the room, wherever they went. (Okay, occasionally Varric got to wear that crown... )

Can we just go with the entire series (especially DAI) and work our way down from there?
I mean just the Dawn will Come will always top my list though so much...well no I should clarify the entire Dawn Will Come/ Finding Skyhold/ Crowning the Inquisitor...perhaps the greatest 20 minutes of concentrated awesome in gaming history...maybe in media history too though The ending of The Rise of Skywalker and the Portals moment from Endgame are also up there. ANYWAYS.
The 'Inquisition Marches' scene I think would almost a give in. Any marshalling forces or 'reinforcements' arrive scenes is always a nice touch to have in movies especially when done well.
Just the great fully fleshed out 3 D characters from Inquisition...the cloesest that any video game cast has come to feeling like actual people as a whole.
The amazing philosophical musings of the series. Going in depth on issues of politics, religion, philosophy, ideas of class, liberty, freedom, the enlightment...the wonderful mage vs. templar is a perfectly juicy debate because there are no easy answers.
The sense of history and the importance of Thedas as a setting to Dragon Age.
And that's all...for now!

Some great points in this thread. I think what I want again most of all is that satisfying feeling at the end of Dragon Age: Origins. That the story was finished. The arch demon dead and your personal decisions playing out. Very rarely have I sat in a warm glow of awe, watching the credits roll as I listened to I Am The One, like I did at the end of DAO. And, once back in the main menu, clicked "New Game". I very much want to experience that feeling again. A place to call home for my gang and myself, like DAI gave me. Just let me fix the roof this time and give me more options for customization, mkay? A crafting/customization system that lets me put cool outfits on my companions like in DAI. Killing effectively is good, but killing effectively with style is so much better! And a gang that combines badass with fun banter. There's nothing like having Varric, Isabela and Aveline with sarcastic Hawke. Somehow, that group got the balance just right for me and I took them everywhere.

What are you doing to me? I vividly remember slumping back into my chair and watching the cutscene play out as the archedemon died and the darkspawn fled. Had never felt satisfaction at the end of a game before that moment.

For me if the ycan replicate the magic I feel whern playing DAI in terms of gameplay story and all that then they've pretty much done it as DAI is one of my favourite games and is also my favourite Dragon Age. I will say though that if they're going for an open world style then they need to tighten it up so the maps aren't quiet as expansive. Make them a little bit more like wthe maps we got in MEA rather than the way DAI's were. If the ycan do these thing that would be perfect at least for me.

I'm just hoping that they keep the excellent character interactions from DAI. Given that it's illegal to say anything positive about DAI here, I'd figure I give a more unpopular opinion here. Well I'm glad you popped the cork on this bottle cause I frikin loved DAI. Sure it wasn't as immersive as DAO, but it was a hundred times better than DA2, which most of my friends think is the best but, eh, whatever. I don't remember DAO too much now cause it's been a while and I haven't replayed it, but I remember thinking the part with Andraste's Ashes was pretty cool. It sort of put you in the middle of a myth the world of DA is built upon. I loved that. I also loved the Dragon fight thereabouts. I don't remember if it was anything to do with the Andraste's Ashes quest or if I just played through it near enough in time that I'm conflating the two, but I played on hard and that was a tough sucker to beat the first time. I loved it. I loved Morrigan in the first game. She was standoffish and arrogant. Like a cat, almost. Where you have to earn their affection. But when you do it feels awesome. Also loved the lore surrounding Flemeth. Love Kate Mulgrew's voice. So befitting a witch of the wilds who might just be something more. DA2 I have a harder time with. But I really like the evolution of the relationship between the brothers. And I frikin loved Isabela, which is unusual for me because I'm gay, but I could not help romancing her for my first three playthroughs despite planning on going another way after the first time. She was just the right combination of reticent and evasive and tender. Loved her. Also, DA2 ends in such an epic way. I have issues with whether that was the smartest thing to do for Anders, but whatever, I guess I can accept that Anders was just not that bright. As for DAI, I loved the whole destruction of Haven and discovery of Skyhold part. I love Leliana in this game, which surprised me because I did not like her in DAO. That time-travel mission where she sacrifices herself was amazing. The music in that mission was amazing too. And the fact you can kinda tell her what she did for you when you get back to the real timeline was simply excellent. Iron Bull. I mean, a mysterious Qunari dude whose real motivations you don't know but who, in the meanwhile, wants to tie you to a chandelier? Yeah, I'll relinquish topping for that. Emprise du Lion. I loved that map. It was beautiful. And 3 dragons. And an embarrassment of crafting materials. Also, "In Your Heart Shall Burn" is probably the best NAME for a quest EVER. Knight Enchanter was definitely OP combined with the fire mines, but I loved it. All the expansions were great. Ameridan was awesome. And the crafting materials! And the lore! The palace intrigue. The return of Morrigan. The return of Flemeth in a meaningful way. Solas and his identity. The banter between the companions. All the romances. The ending of the last expansion. My crush on my own Inquisitor (he was beautiful). I feel like there's too much I loved about DAI to describe it all in a succinct manner. I really can't wait for DA4. Here's hoping the current Bioware doesn't fuck it up. Cause if it's good I'll personally buy enough copies to keep em afloat. Hahahaha.

It's hard to point out one specific instance in a franchise filled with moments. But, generally I want the emotional impact that The Dawn Will Come/Skyhold, Varric's reaction to Hawke and the fade, the banter between Isabella and Aveline, and the fidgeting of Morrigan when she realises she's in love in Origins. Those are the things that make Dragon Age the greatest franchise of all time.

Arrrrrgh. Gil....I do not have the time for another Origins play through right now. What are you doing to me? I vividly remember slumping back into my chair and watching the cutscene play out as the archedemon died and the darkspawn fled. Had never felt satisfaction at the end of a game before that moment. It's been so long since I played Dragon Age: Origins. I think I only did one playthrough, so that might explain why. I do distinctly remember all the events prior to the death of the Archdemon though, and it did feel cool killing it off. I was also fairly surprised by the proposal Morrigan gave you in order to save your soul. I wish I had played the DLC's for that game. I had a friend of mine constantly talk about Shale. The comments she made about Donnic and "popping his cork," coupled with Aveline's reactions, were hysterical my first time hearing them.

I hope they pull a mission like the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest in DAO. First, they set that up with loads of lore about the Urn and myth of Andraste, all those book entries by Brother Genetivi, and the norms and customs of church and the Chant of Light, and then BAM(!!!), you get dropped in this quest where all of that gets spun on it's head, and some nut is telling you that dragon over there is Andraste reborn, and you're just like... whaaaa??? On the flip side, I could definitely do without having the see Ser Otto die again. P.S. Oh man, based on this conversation just fired up one of my games at the coronation scene with all of the companions. That music alone gave me shivers...
