The more Nightmare Fuel-ish moments. It's just not truly 100% Dragon Age if it doesn't have some good Nightmare Fuel for us to admire. Without it, it can get between 60-80%, personally Incidentally, Inquisition felt kinda Nightmare-lite, so I can only hope Bioware goes all in on the Nightmare Fuel for DA4, especially since both Trespasser and Tevinter Nights are setting up good opportunities for such.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but my great Dragon Age experience is more so defined by the light-hearted frivilous stuff more than anything else. I love feeling like my companions are my family, I love the romances, I love the banter, I love the bards songs, I love the goofy, silly moments, I love the feeling of wanting to start the game all over again, I loved The Dawn Will Come, I love seeing my companions grow and I like making them happy, I love how Skyhold feels like home and I love the ending of Trespasser and the ending credits especially that make you want to replay the game all over again.
I don't love sacrificing people, companions backstabbing you, freaky blood magic, sick and twisted plot twists and decisions where you have to pick from two terrible options. Obviously they are a needed part of the story, since it can't be all dancing on roses, what kind of a story is that? But those moments aren't the reason I love Dragon Age.

I agree with everything except the Trespasser part, just because that DLC is in a bit of a Schrodinger's Cat situation until we know who we'll be playing in DA4.

I kinda wish the series did more to showcase the horror, malevolence, and brutality of the Darkspawn. I don't necessarily mean gore and all that, but just how much the Taint can twist those that are under its effects. I was thinking of that scene with the bear from Annihilation and how every time it would "roar," it would also scream the last words of the woman it killed. Very haunting stuff. (Just a warning, the scene IS very graphic)

My favorite moments in DAI were when we escaped the avalanche and were left wandering alone in a blizzard. And the rest of the in your heart shall burn cutscenes were good too. I want more character building scenes/trials for the protagonist like that.

I best loved the party banter in Dragon Age 2. Almost every interaction while walking etc was relevant to either the character or the particular political dramas/lore issues at hand (and, even when attached to character, the characters would all be very well-written and constantly motivated by their muses fitting inside the lore as well). Or even if they weren't.... they were all great. The characters were just amazing. That's all that has to be said.

Off the top of my head: I liked the feeling of remoteness and mystery in the Deep roads, that gameplay was excellent in DA:O and to a somewhat lesser extent in Inquisition. Exploring ancient ruins deep underground, not knowing what lies ahead, thats just cool, like a mix of being an archaeologist, a chronologist and a fighting adventurer. And of course there always is the party interaction in the hubs / camps, I've always liked that a lot and it was pretty well done in the Dragon Age series. Maybe I'm in the minority here but my favorite hub was Haven right at the beginning of DA:I. A very well done lovely crafted map, with lots of interesting interactions and the feeling that a grand journey had started. I also enjoyed every interaction with Cassandra, ever.

Generally the companions and interactions with them.
DAO: The whole nursery rhyme thing in the Deeproads before the broodmother. SO creepy, just loved it. Only thing about that section of the Deeproads I liked. The feeling that once the big bad has been dealt with and the crowd has cheered you on, you get on with your life as a nobody and don't have to be responsible for (Political) stuff beyond your expertise.
DA2: I liked being a dual wielding (duelist) rogue. It had so much more mobility than DAI and I felt like I could actually deal damage.
DAI: The Envy part of the templar route. Loved it as a mini dungeon and it was an amazing way of introducing Cole. It could have been slightly more creepy, but overall I enjoyed it way more than the mage equivalent.

- Being a nobody. I liked being just some rando in DAO and DA2, not really getting special treatment, being known or having some grandiose title without earning it.
- The deep roads and the horror of darkspawn. There is nothing as memorable to me as DAOs deep roads. Hespith's rhyme was absolutely terrifying and amazing. Return to Ostagar, seeing what those monsters did to poor stupid Cailan was also terrifying. It's just not Dragon Age to me without the terrifying, and DAI (and to lesser extent DA2) just wasn't doing a great job showing it or making it personal.
- Playing as Warden. The Last Flight, disappearance of wardens, Horror of Hormak. It's time BW, don't be teasing me like this. Warden protagonist or riot! D:
- Playing as City Elf. Another joy BW has deprived us of for too long! City elf was my first origin in DAO and even after all the playthroughs since it's my favourite. I was very sad when both DA2 and DAI disappointed me in this regard.
- Party banter that acctually works. I only got banter in DAI on the last round of fixes. And then I had the banter bug in MEA too. Can we just have the old trigger system back thanks ._.
- Proper tactics. I love love love love love DAO and DA2 tactics, no game has done them so well. Just tinkering and perfecting the tactics to make everything go smooth and work how I want to with the least amount of micromanaging is pure enjoyment for me. And no, good AI isn't a good alternative, I want to set up my tactics myself and judging from DAI and MEA the BW AI doesn't cut it.
- DAI companion fashion. I acctually really liked how each companion had their own style and all the gear morphed to look their style. Nice compromise between the 'wear anything' of DAO and 'no customization allowed' of DA2.
- Return to more linear ala Tresspasser. I didn't like DAI's open world. Tresspasser however was the best part of the game. Nice linear yet big enough to explore with some weird nooks and crannies maps. 10/10, have played through many times.
- Origins. I know DAO type ones are never gonna happen again, but even an origin-lite shared by every race would be better than nothing. Even DA2 had an origin with that whole escape from Darkspawn prologue.

Okay, let's see...
- The Origins in general - The Battle of Ostagar - Alistair awkwardly offering me a rose - Finding the broodmother - The Landsmeet - The Battle for Denerim - The entering the Keep during the Battle for Kirkwall - The humor from Mark of the Assassin in general - Hanging out with friends scenes from DA II/DAI - The Dawn Will Come/Finding Skyhold - Solas' final romance scene - The finale to Trespasser

For both ME and DA I've always liked the scene you get just before the big battle. I don't care if it doesn't make sense that there's time for farewells. The Companions I've become friends with, the LI and the PC all getting to talk about how they feel. I've always felt that (most) of them have believable thoughts on the upcoming battle and how they/the pc might not live through it.

hmm off the top of my head...
broodmother part of the deeproads. hespiths rhyme was so creepy and it was the moment that i really started to fear the darkspawn.
Origins. I like to see a bit of the world before it goes to shit. Makes me more connected to my character and makes all the tragedy hit more.
Callbacks. I like when stuff for the beginning of the game makes a comeback. Like the people and events of your origin coming back. Or like return to ostagar when you see the aftermath of the battle. Its always so nostalgic and makes you feel like you have really grown on your journey.
Companion interactions outside of banter. Like in da2 how youd see merill playing cards with isabella, or aveline talking yo fenris before cutscenes. Makes them feel more real, like they have a life outside your character.
Dais armor system. perfect balance between customisation and characters having their own style.
The close up camera when talking to npcs. Hated the zoomed out camera in dai. made things feel to impersonal.
Areas like Crestwood. Dai was far to open world for the most part and da2 was too linear. Dao was pretty linear as well. Crestwood i think had a pretty good balance. And i loved how the map would change and areas would open up as you progressed.
I loved the homey feel of da2. I dont know what exactly about it made it feel that way but its great. I think it was maybe the music? idk. I also liked the animated loading screens. The art was so pretty and it just added to the ambiance of kirkwall. Where as dais loading screens felt too clean and gamey and daos just looked bad.
The final scene with your companions before the big battle. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
And i liked the gauntlet where the spirit confronted you about your origin. And in da2 after leandra dies and you companions console you. Just any moments in games where you confront who you are as a character or someone else gets to be the party therapist for once.

I really enjoyed the grueling, Dwarven, lore filled, delight that was descent dlc, greatly appreciated the way Inquisition presented the fade and fell in love with Origins (pretty much in its entirety) way back in the day. More of the same would be delicious.

Moments? 1- Banter ... between Alistair and Morrigan. 2- Characters ... Zevran, Leliana, Morrigan, Oghren, Varric, Hawke, The Arishok. 3- The choice to kill or not brother Genitivi. 4- Aveline's love pursuit.
DA4 must haves? ... hard choices, sacrificial choices, light amusing side stories, deep characters that one likes or hates and good freaking combat mechanics for keyboards.

- Origin stories. They helped flesh out the characters and gave them more personal stakes in the story: killing Arl Howe as Cousland, dealing with Vaughain as Tabris, discovering Tamlen's fate as Mahariel, seeing the ghosts of past in the Temple of Sacred Ashes, etc. It helped make each playthrough feel special and unique. Your character didn't just exist to be the hero of the story, they were someone before all that and I really liked that. So if anything I just really hope they bring the Origin stories back.
- What I really liked about both DAO and DAI was how the game ended: epic final battle, then a huge victory celebration with your friends and allies and finally the epilogue slides. Such a satisfying way to end the game.
- Morrigan's introduction scene in DAO.
- How many different options you have at the Landsmeet (including my favorites: Warden marries Anora or forces Alistair to marry her and recruits Loghain).
- Morrigan's dark ritual proposal. Excellent scene.
- Judgments in DAA and DAI.
- Skyhold. I loved Skyhold! I didn't mind running around speaking to my companions. It's fun to see how they spend their free time, although they could occasionally move to another spot like the companions did in ME3. Also the customization options for the castle hall could have been better.
- The War Table. I also loved the War Table. I thought it was an excellent feature and I wish to see something like it in DA4.
- All the companion cutscenes in DAI were top notch.
- In Hushed Whispers - mission.
- Cory's attack on Haven. That was his best moment in DAI for sure. Too bad he kind of disappears after that.
- The Well of Sorrows scene where your Inquisitor drinks from the Well, then later the scene where she tames the green dragon.
- Solas romance in it's entirety. There's not that many unique romance scenes in it but the few are perfection.
- Jaws of Hakkon DLC in it's entirety.
- Trespasser in it's entirety. Especially the moments you have with your companions, the underlying sense of urgency and feeling like something terrible is going to happen but your not sure what... that DLC really captures the "calm before storm" feeling perfectly. Then Bull's betrayal and seeing Solas... and the very final scene where the Inquisitor stands all alone after all her friends have walked away. I love Trespasser, everything about it so perfect. It even has second epilogue slides for the game which I love. My only problem with it was at the time that it really should've been free for all players... the game is not complete without it.

Close up NPC camera again please
I really liked the general vibe of the DA2 story. It was smaller in scale but felt way more personal because of that. My favorite moment still is when Isabella betrayed Hawke and then returned at the last moment (and the 1v1 with Arishock was sweet too...also funny with all the running). I know DA4 cannot be this way but I would like the story to have these exciting turns and twists that DA2 had.
From DA:O I would borrow mostly depth of decisions and some returning characters would be nice. Maybeevenwardencouldfinallyreturnforonecameoprettyplease.
And from DA:I, well I really liked the Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts quest. Intrigue and politics in fiction were always interesting to me so yea, more of that please. Also artistry of different locations, Inquisition is so damn pretty, I hope they will give DA4 even more detail.
Last but not least, they have pretty spectacular lore and set up for a new story now so I keep my fingers crossed that they use it properly.

I'd love to have a prologue back to the game, whether its different depending on race/class combo or whether we're all the same character regardless. Just something to ground the character and let me get to know their place in things before I have to start engaging with the main narrative in earnest. It can even start in the middle of some action and still do that, like DA2.
Just... I didn't like DAI's start as much. A big deal is made of the conclave, but we never saw it. And the only way we really know anything about why your character is there or who they are until an hour in is from the CC text. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the best, either.

The City Elf origin in DAO.
I don't necessarily want race options or even origins(in the style of DAO) in DA4 but I do want a feeling of being part of the world rather than just a vessel of change.
The Origins made my character feel human from the beginning(Which is ironic considering he's an elf).

Big fat weighty set piece choices. The first time I played DAO and got to the Morrigan's ritual I had to get up and pace for like 40 minutes before I could make a decision. DA 2 didn't really have any for me personally but I guess for some people there might have been in choosing between the mages and templars, or in executing Anders. DAI's big one was the Well but also deciding who would rule Orlais, and the Nightmare might have been one too but I never had to make a difficult choice there (lol bye Stroud).
And the companions ofc, everything about the companions. The thoughtful, deep characterization, the banter, the bonding, the romance. It's [current year] and still nobody does companions quite the way Bioware does, it's consistently the heart of their stories.
Luckily I don't reeaaalllly think either of these is in serious jeopardy.

I am naming my next Mabari Dogna. But I do miss DA:O Sandal. His voice in DA2 just wasn't right and once past the deep roads he lost a lot of the fun. I want him to keep popping up in unlikely places, surrounded by elemental carnage, and saying, "Boom."
