She was describing the outbreaks in different part of the US, and the rest of world, to explain why some places have different infection/detection rates, aside from because of testing. Basically New York and Washington state were some weeks after Italy, which was some weeks after China, etc. Different parts of the US would start having similar cycles in the coming weeks. I hope I misheard her. Ohhhh....sorry. I misunderstood you. Thought you were talking an individuals exposure through symptom cycle. But you're talking time of emergence through - some measure of - control, right? Yeah... or at least some measure of the outbreak being over.

Anyway, apparently my fellow kiwis have their priorities in order. People are demanding to know whether or not liquor stores are classified as "essential services" and are asking the question seriously. Particularly so in my part of town because there is a licensing trust in action, meaning supermarkets can't sell beer and wine, so literally the only place to get booze is a licensed - specialised - liquor store. Thoughts and prayers, everyone. Thoughts and prayers. In NY liquor stores are classified as essential services...

Not personally affected, though it is all around me (state of Washington, USA). It is a weird situation. I hear the numbers continue to go up and in the greatest numbers in my city (which makes sense since a third of all New Zealanders live here), but I don't know anyone or of anyone that has it or has come into contact/been in self-isolation. And yet, disruption and confusion reign.

In NY liquor stores are classified as essential services... And here was me thinking that "greatest city in the world" stuff was merely hubris. Governor here in Virginia just shut everything down too starting tomorrow midnight, EXCEPT "essential" businesses which includes liquor stores - gotta take the edge off somehow I guess. Don't think Barnes and Noble made the list, so I better run out there an get my copy of the Economist, I'll probably finish it in about 10 weeks. It's so weird going to grocery store and seeing the meat section empty. P.S. Also, we have a state coronavirus counter: www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/ for use, I guess, if CNN isn't freaking us out enough.

Some good news here for people with a mortgage who have had their income impacted by COVID-19 - 6 month interest and principle payment holidays.
That will take more than just the edge off.

I would say it's moer like 12 though because the firs tcases actually showed up in December it' swhy i twas classified Covid 19 as it was discovered in 2019 I believe. I think it's likely to remain a threat a tleast until the summer either way. I do hope we can bring it under control befoer then though. Strange thing is though earlier when playing Volta in Fifa 20 I cam eacross a team called Corona Virus thankfully I beat it though

Lockdown in the UK.........
Yeah the silence is really noticeable so far, it's kinda weird not to have the usual noise of urban life, no planes overhead, the odd car now and again but not much more than that...

No0 Volta doesn' t have injury time. The main game does though as in fact I actuall ylost a game to Arsenal in injury time in career mode. Got my revenge later though by beating them on their turf

It is going on here too Still classified as an "essential service", though dependent on whether we move to stage 2 of world domination quarantine, this may change. For the supermarkets that are allowed to sell liquor, this is pretty much the only items in the catalogue as there is little point listing anything, as everything is pretty much "out of stock".

Here in the north of England people panic bought loo roll. Then they closed the pubs. So ofc the next day a bloke went into the corner shop and tried to trade his toilet rolls for beer. I admit, it's amusing to me to see how people cope with quarantine. I've been close to housebound for 20 years due to my health, sometimes only going out once a fortnight. It's second nature to me and I've built up quite a few coping mechanisms. There were a couple of years where I was particularly poorly, and I just stopped. I gave up doing most things and I just sat there watching tv. Then I started eating healthier and felt a bit brighter, well enough to start doing stuff again, and I realised that I'd been making it worse by giving up and probably adding a little depression into the mix. I've been self isolating for 3 weeks, and have 3 months to go it seems. So, to prepare, I planned some stuff. I bought 2 jigsaws, I have 3 cross stitch projects all kitted up and ready to do, I got baking ingredients for treats, store cupboard ingredients for making soups and things like that. I bought a short game from my Steam wishlist called Kona, which is an atmospheric detective game, and I'm going to download Beneath the Steel Sky which is free on GoG (a point and click). Short games I can immerse myself in to pass the time, whilst I'm also starting a ME trilogy run for the long term. Other things like movie night, binge watching a tv series and reading a good book pass the time really well. And I'm Skyping my niece every Sunday to mark the end of the week, as having a weekly thing helps to make it go faster. Seriously Giant Ambush Beetle, you have to make the effort. Even when you don't want to. Even when you don't feel like it. If I can drag my chronically ill ass out of the house for a walk twice a week, so can you. It does wonders for your energy levels and your state of mind. Nature is a very calming thing. And get something to do, like the Lego deathstar or a model ship, some Warhammer figurines or a cross stitch. So for all of you stuck inside, don't be like my niece. She sits there all day staring out the window and watching Youtube, and is sooooooo bored. I know this cos she tells me constantly. Make the effort and it'll go quicker. Have a specific job or treat some days. Do the spring cleaning, get a hobby, find a great tv show, listen to a podcast, learn a language....then it won't be so bad. I promise.

Life goes on here though gatherings are not allowed. Schools are still open with stringent oversight. I'm pretty much "house bound" which I've been for a few years so my routine is not adversely affected.

I have definitely been affected in Florida in that my company basically has 95% of us working from home as mandatory since beginning of last week. So, I've essentially self-isolated myself anyway, only going out to procure groceries.
My girl friend and I were also supposed to road trip to the Georgia Renaissance Festival end of next month, but that has been postponed and tentatively rescheduled for Memorial Day weekend - we shall see.
And while a lot of people are feeling like working from home is a vacation or extra free time, I have been busier than ever - working at a newspaper, we have obviously been knee-deep in cancelling or rescheduling ads almost non-stop as events are cancelled and stores are temporarily closing or no longer doing the sales they had planned, etc. And having to track all that lost ad revenue. It's mayhem.

Yeah since I maoinly stay a thome anyway p;laying video games m ylife isn't really goimng t obe affected by the UK lockdown. The only thing that might change as I said above is that I ma yend up getting m yPC a bit late. I haven't been e-mailed to say it's been delayed but undre the circumstances I'm kind of expecting to recieve one. Given I orderd last week before the lockdown was issued I'm not suer whatto expec ton tha tfront. I do think they've done the right thing though given what's been happening. The onl ysurprising thing is the fact the UK has taken this long to decide on that given how much warning has been issued.

Yeah such as those who hav ebeen panic buying it's been happening here too. Even m ymeds have been cutin half as they've only given me 2 weeks instead of m yusual month because stocks are low. Allwe can do is heed our govrenment sadvice and hope it's enough. With any luck it should be.

Particularly so in my part of town because there is a licensing trust in action, meaning supermarkets can't sell beer and wine, so literally the only place to get booze is a licensed - specialised - liquor store. Thoughts and prayers, everyone. Thoughts and prayers. In all seriousness, it is a very bad idea to cut off alcohol supplies completely in situations like this. Setting up a scenario where every alcoholic in town has to suddenly go cold turkey with no medical support is not going to help keep people out of hospital.
Speaking of which, the main effect of all this on me personally is that the surgery I was meant to be having next week got cancelled today . I completely understand why they had to do it, but after three months of being essentially stuck in my house and in constant pain, it sucks that there is no end in sight.

Speaking of which, the main effect of all this on me personally is that the surgery I was meant to be having next week got cancelled today . I completely understand why they had to do it, but after three months of being essentially stuck in my house and in constant pain, it sucks that there is no end in sight. Man, sorry to hear that. I hope its not something than can potentially be - or become - life threatening?
