My wife got her first booster the other day (Pfizer), and this one has really knocked her around. No nausea, but just exhausted and feeling like she’d been punched in the arm (and, weirdly, the armpit). I had a sore underarm as well, presumably the lymph node there cranking overtime. Couldn't sleep on either side for a couple of nights due to the pressure/soreness. It went away after a couple of days. Also had weird temperature swings the day after the booster shot - from freezing cold to massive sweat fest. Gosh, that was fun.

Yeah, we figured it was probably that - the lymph nodes - and she had a hard time sleeping last night, as well. She hasn’t had the temperature swings - yet - but maybe they’re still in the works

Well, third shot (Moderna this time after two BioNTech/Pfizer ones) successfully achieved and the side effects seem fairly mild so far... arm seems a bit more sore than the last two times, but other than that, things seem fine.
The doctor had their walk-in corridor split into two lanes, one for covid shots and one for normal business. No appointment necessary, just show up with your vaccination docs during certain hours of the day. And then I had to have my digital certificate corrected because my health service card does not include my middle name and the smart ass app thought the certificate belonged to a different person... they PDF'ed me a new one within the hour though, so kudos to the med team.

Just got released from the hospital after covid put me in there a couple days ago. Had been sick the last couple of weeks and then a few days ago got real high anxiety like I was about crawling out of my skin but was also beginning to have trouble being steady while walking. Also had been coughing up bloody mucus and noticed had to make a bit of an effort for breathing through my nose. Decided enough was enough and went to the emergency room. Turns out my oxygen absorption dropped to 90 percent and the doctor decided to hospitalize me. Ended up staying in the hospital for 2 nights and now I am feeling much better and recovering at home. Thing is in the hospital I was told my case was still in the mild side. This virus is no joke. It is as nasty as they get and it is extremely contagious. I was never antivax I always intended to get it but just procrastinated. Turns out I am a fool but a lucky fool because despite everything that happened to me they managed to stabilize me but I am still a fool nonetheless for putting myself in that situation. Get vaccinated.

Glad you're OK again!
My best friend, unvaccinated daycare worker, just had it and it was a mild cold. A week after testing positive she was already doing Zumba choreography at home again. Several of her vaccinated coworkers are having a shit time with trouble breathing and terrible body aches and whatnot. Sick for 3 weeks and counting.
This virus is so random to me.

This virus is so random to me. According to my experiences from talking to business associates and co-workers that got it the omicron variant seems to be very mild in MOST cases. No infection of the lung, just a cold and in like half the cases no symptoms at all. Of course there are those that get a very severe infection, but this goes for pretty much any virus that's out there. No virus is a joke, ever. These days Covid seems to be less severe than true influenca.

This virus is so random to me. I'm guessing that there are now so many cases, that we are seeing all kinds of random stuff happening. Not gonna go into details, but if life was a video game, people would be complaining about how the RNG is all weird and wonky and causing issues..

got it too few weeks back, some mild influenza symptoms for 2 days, was back working at home the third but stayed positive for 6 days at least. Got lucky i guess, but most are with this omicron version, especially if vaccinated. Kids were with light symptoms for 12hrs roughly, wife 3 days.
Spoke with one nurse of our region hospital this week and she told me the reanimation service was occupied mostly by the same persons for the last 2 months, fighting for their lives. Not many new hard case entry.

My oldest got it over new years, as did most of the in-laws. We were lucky, you wouldn't even be able to tell he was sick, he just said he had a headache, but was still running amok with his younger brother and playing around as usual. Surprisingly, the younger brother didn't get it, considering they both sleep in the same room right next to eachother. And neither my husband or I caught it either. We have had both shots, mine much more recently than his, but both children have had none. The in-laws got it harder than we did, but nothing too crazy. The only one who has had it a but rougher is my father in law who is older and already had pre existing issues. He'll be fine though. Highly likely it was omicron.
Glad to hear you are feeling better though, kotoreffect3.

Omicron has broken the streak….of me not knowing anyone who is a close contact of a case. Two of our friends are isolating with their families. They’ve all returned negative tests, though.
I still have my ‘don’t know any positive cases streak’, though.

Sorry, yes…that is what I meant. I - to this day - do not know personally know a single person that has been confirmed as a case (which is different to being an infection, of course. I might know people who’ve had it, but just had it really mildly and didn’t even think to get a test). And this is while living in Auckland, my countries biggest city and Covid welcome mat…

I've known...I don't even know anymore. Well over a dozen, definitely. The recent ones have mostly been mild cases or asymptomatic ones (presumably omicron), but still it's been a lot. We've been very short handed at work. No one I personally know has gone to the hospital or died of it, thankfully.

The recent ones have mostly been mild cases or asymptomatic ones (presumably omicron), but still it's been a lot. We've been very short handed at work. No one I personally know has gone to the hospital or died of it, thankfully. I know someone last autumn who went to hospital with the virus, was given the all clear to return home and then dropped dead 12 hours later. So it will be recorded as a COVID death although probably because it weakened his heart rather than the direct cause of death. Last year I was admitted to hospital for broken ribs and then tested positive with a routine PCR test. It was a very low positive. This surprised me because I had experienced no symptoms and had been regularly testing negative with lateral flow tests required by my employer. 12 hours later, when they did a repeat PCR, I was negative. Yet I and everyone connected with me was still required to isolate for 10 days. Now they are saying that the PCR is showing positive in roughly a third of cases where the person is not infectious because it is too sensitive. So I think that was probably the case with me. At least in the UK they are now saying that if a person is vaccinated and has a negative test at 5 and 6 days, then they can stop isolating. I think a lot of absence at the moment is because people are testing positive rather than actually being ill. As for Omicron, my daughter picked it up just before Christmas, being first made aware by mild, cold like symptoms and then testing positive. This was just before she was due to get her booster vaccination. By contrast her husband, who had already had his booster dose, never showed any symptoms and tested negative, so it seemed the booster was doing the trick.

My government just officially claimed that the omicron variant is not overwhelming the health system followed by an announcement that basically all safety measures - all but masks- will be lifted in the coming weeks. Apparently omicron is less of a burden on the health system than the common flu each year. Guess this pandemic is exhaling its last breath. That fucking dumbass virus.

My state announced yesterday that the indoor mask mandate will be lifted by March 31, assuming nothing unexpected happens in the meantime. I'm not sure it's doing much good at my work anyway since at least 50% of the people "wearing" masks don't wear them properly. We've had people out left and right the last month or so.

Our province is also lifting most measure even though deaths are still high and hospitalizations are still very high, though icu use is not as high.
They have pretty well just given up, you could tell when omicron was going so wild they basically stopped effectively tracking cases.
The plan now is 'oh we will just have to put up with the deaths and uber high hospitalizations.'

at least 50% of the people "wearing" masks don't wear them properly. Yeah, that's a problem here as well. Mostly the 'nose out' people. It's been two years. Get it right. Our province is also lifting most measure even though deaths are still high and hospitalizations are still very high, though icu use is not as high. Our Omicron outbreak is only just starting, but at the moment only 14 people are in hospital nationwide (with Covid) and none in ICU.

We have 1,623 in hospital and 129 in icu in our province, 13 more deaths on tuesday alone. Have these definitely been attributed to Omicron? Whilst it is responsible for 100% of cases in some countries, I gather that there are still pockets of Delta in others and this is more deadly. If you are elderly or have an underlying health condition then you are going to be more likely to develop serious symptoms even with Omicron. Also, scientific research into why obese people seemed more vulnerable, showed that the virus actually uses the fat cells to attack the body, so I would imagine that anyone with excess fat is going to be at greater risk, even if they are not clinically obese. Here in the U.K. it is stated that the majority of adults carry more weight than they should, which probably explains the push for everyone to get vaccinated because only a minority can claim to be young, fit and healthy and thus least likely to become seriously ill.

Got boosted earlier today The doctor giving me the dose apparently had similar reactions to me to the first two (zero, other than a slightly sore arm), but reckons the third one knocked him flat for almost two whole days. Something to look forward to for the coming weekend, I guess…

Something to look forward to for the coming weekend, I guess… It seems pretty random how people are affected. I think it may also depend on which vaccine you have. I had Astra Zeneca for my first 2 and then Mordena for my 3rd and with all of them my arm fell painful for around 36 hours but that was all. My daughter had Pfizer for all 3 injections but I think it was the 3rd one that made her feel worst. However, this was only 28 days after having Omicron though and I did wonder if she really needed the vaccine when she must have natural antibodies as a result, so it could be that the adverse reaction was because her immune system's natural antibodies were reacting to the vaccine. Trouble is to gain entry to many places you are required to have 3 jabs, a policy that doesn't take into account recent infection and natural immunity as a result.
