This one came out of nowhere but I'm already set on purchasing day one.
A sequel to the amazing XCOM 2/ XCOM 2: War of the Chosen.
I really like how the squad is incorporating aliens into its ranks, as it always bugged me that XCOM wouldn't liberate the enslaved races like they helped do with the Marauders.

Looks interesting, particularly curious how the interleaved turns is gonna play and also REALLY like the idea of being able to set up your squad and turn order before combat. Also like the idea of a bigger emphasis on your squaddies, maybe not THIS much of an emphasis where you have to restart if one dies and they're fixed individuals but I like the idea of Firaxis realizing that player connection to their squaddies is an underexploited resource they have on hand. And playable aliens are neat. And I'm gay but

You beat me to it. And indeed, the special offer of 9,99 is impossible to say no to. ( 9 out of 10 times missing a 99% hit chance still gives me nightmares )

I genuinely love XCOM. The lack of customizating squaddies gives me pause.... But at that price tag, I'm going for it regardless.
I haven't played it since my Ironman War of The Chosen Achievement anyway, so something shiny and new sounds delightful.

I don't mind the artwork at all, it fits somehow. The breach mode is a big plus; as is the turnsystem which can be influenced through abilities and such. Characters could use more customization other than the uniform colour. Could be a bit more grimdark (personal taste) but all in all worth the 10 bucks ( despite the CTD once in a while )

I feel the same after having just completed my campaign on hard. The game is still very much XCOM with some interesting mechanics to it. All in all I enjoyed it, but I agree about the overall lack of customization and the more light hearted vibe.

Finished it yesterday, and yes, this game is definitely worth the ten bucks, and I'd say even the twenty off sale.

Finished my first campaign and highly recommend it.
- Anyone thinking about it shouldn’t be fooled by the price. It’s a full length game, maybe a tad shorter than the others, probably 30 something hours, with scope to replay it.
- It’s more lighthearted than the other games. The stakes are lower as you don’t set out to save the world, just investigate criminal organizations in the city. The missions, squad banter, talk radio in the ops room, etc. reflect that well. I thought they did a surprisingly good job of world (city) building.
- Having individual characters makes a nice change. Each one being their own class forces you to try different combinations of people and equipment more than the other games, especially since you can’t hire them all in one play through. They all have uses and seem reasonably well balanced, however I found Terminal (only dedicated healer) more or essential for the hardest missions. She doesn’t get as insanely powerful late game as some of the others though.
- I liked the breach mechanic and changes to the tactical game. It meant relearning the game a bit. I didn’t miss the whole pod activation nonsense at all. Took a while to really work out the breach system. Slight bug being that you if you change you mind on who goes second, you can’t select a breach grenade without deselecting the first position.
- I’d probably recommend everyone play on ironman. Unlike the other games, if you fail a mission you have to restart it, so it’s not too daunting. That means you don’t get the cascade of failure which will end your campaign. It’s a bit of a shame there’s less of a link between the tactical game and the strategic side, but it didn’t bother me too much. Hardcore mode sounds a bit too hardcore though. I think it could use an in between mode where you can fail a bit without ending the game.

I beg to differ, Terminal carried me, hard Yeah, that’s what I meant. I relied on her able to heal every turn (thus free up everyone else’s item slots) plus giving other characters bonus actions or delaying enemies actions. But she doesn’t lay waste to the opposition like some of the others can towards the end. Also, the reflex grip is great. Get at least one of these.

For me, she would keep ripping shots down range, too.
And on one occasion I put her, with her Guardian ability, as last in a breach where last unit would Overwatch. That fight was over in the first turn, as enemies decided moving was a good idea.

Terminal always comes along as a dedicated healer alright. I always take Verge along as well, his Battle Madness ability more or less gives him an extra attack if it isn't resisted ( the target becomes berserk and attacks the nearest ally )
And am I just lucky or does Axiom's Shrug it off ability seem to proc often ?

I loved it.
Sure, it wasn't as solid as a full on game,,,
But at 10 bucks for XCOM-the-visual-novel, I was very pleased.
Only major complaint is that it has smote me with a mighty urge to play X-COM: Enemy Within and 2 again. But, like, if I was going for story with them, too.

I played the game. It is a quite nice spin off. And it make me look forward to squads full of hybrids, mutons, sectoids and vipers in XCOM3. Torque was pretty much a tsundere.

I adore Godmother.
She's a bit bland, but also really cool. Obviously, I haven't had a chance to take everyone out for a spin yet, but there's no one I dislike.
And Shelter was interesting in that he forced me to use the psionics in ways I usually don't.
