You know, it's kinda weird that Sera talks about elves who shamed her for not being elfy. The only ones she could've interacted with were city elves, and they're more like humans with pointed ears. They're unlikely to care about elfiness all that much. I suspect the City Elves shamed her more for eschewing the traditions unique to them. Can't exactly see Sera being cool with the idea of some doddering old fogies arranging a marriage to someone she'd never even met before (even ignoring the fact that men don't exactly butter her crumpet), then forcing her settle down and plop out some kids.
We saw in the CE origin that's pretty much how it goes for Elves her age.
A studded leather jacket really should have been armour option for her.

One thing I like about Sera is that she encourages us to look at others as individuals first, rather than identitarian labels. It's an important thing to keep in mind when roleplaying too.

Sera, in spite of her dialogues about elves in the game, is THE ONLY character in DLC Trespasser, who asks an elven Inq "how do you feel about that new elfy info?". She cares. Not like other "friends". Others don't even ask you. She tells you that her people are looking for Inq clan if they are dead. Again, Sera cares about Inq.
Sera is THE ONLY character who can say a lot of info using only a few words. Many people don't understand her because of that + because of her working class accent ("townie"?....forgot), but it' their probleme.
"There is a lot of tradition. Is there nothing to learn from that?" "Yes, don't do that". Simple as that.
I would like to have such a person in real life.

Read some posts. Do not know, but from the very beginning I was in good relationships with Sera, though first several PTs of a new game I make w/o using tips from somewhere or someone. How it turned out? Do not even know, she was not my LI in the first PT, so no additional approval. But it was fine and well. Though I told her things she did not like. And yes, from the first PT Sera became one of my favorite characters of DAU. ------ Anyway.
Have written already about Sera's manner of speaking. Nevertheless.
Started another character and just can't help myself writing other examples of how Sera explains things. Awesome.
*** Inq: we already have spies, can you add to these professionals? Sera:.....So no, I am not Knifey Shivdark, all hidden.....
Sera, using only three words and analogies explaining what she is and does instead of wasting time for pointless talk. Quick, clear, short. *** Part with "Because someone yelled it real loud? Make them prove it. They are too busy to look up where the real questions are." - one of the favorite parts about really stupid people killing each other just because someone told they should do that instead of helping etc etc etc *** Also one of the favorites: "Lord seeker with "lord" in front of the name and having a portrait taller than he is. The first tip that person is a total arse. Fact!" ***
Love the way she talks. Why waste time for long explanations and conversations when you can say it in three words? Still Sera is one of the best written characters in DAU. And one of my favorites. How she talks, explaining 10 min speech in five words is just amazing. Her manner of speech is not the only reason I like her of course. Just wanted to write about it. A person, responsible for her creation did super manifique job.

Thank you for kind words. I myself feel the same as you do. *** One more of Sera's thoughts: after getting mages her words about "Ferelden is out of curtains". Hilarious and at the same time looking at mage robes I actually see that she speaks the truth using her manner of expressing thoughts + the tone and pitches she uses add a bonus. Really enjoy listening to Sera.

I’m pretty sure she is referencing Leliana being a Bard, since she says she thought she “used to play” and since play is what Sera calls her Red Jenny activities.

Though Sera says usually some "lesbian-sex" things, but she is actually dedicated to her goals. Thus pretty sure she meant "stabby". Plus, it is really difficult to hide something from Sera. She always knows "things".

Now, try at least, to play as half-support mage and use a team: Cass (as aggro) + Dorian (Supporter + some damage) + Sera (as melee and the main damager). No normal armor/weapon/trinkets (like to use what I find), but people do their jobs just fine (I am only bored to the death, just wait several lvls up).
But not the thing.
Talking to Sera again as a mage in interesting as she is not fond of it at all.
After chosing spec talked to Sera (not word for word again, was yesterday at night): Inq: problemes with my spec? Sera: Problems? No. ....about the name... Inq: Do not like how my magic is developing? Sera: Not about that. People are afraid of magic, even if they did not see any mage at all. You are creepy but I know you, so I am not afard of you.
Her last sentence is very true. Again short but describes the situation about magic-mages in the whole. Yes, people are afraid of magic but why if they even did not see any mage doing something to be afraid of? (Chantry brainwashing I could say is one of the reasons). But Sera knows Inq, Inq is a mage, so she should be afrad but she does not as actually knows Inq, sees that magic (though still not fond of it).
Plus her PBs about magic with Dorian are great: Dorian actually tries to help Sera not to be SO afraid of magic. ---
Very often read comments about Sera that she is so childish, even stupid, can't learn things, does not understand many things. Only this comment of hers is one proof that Sera actually understands why-what-where. Sera IS CLEVER. Just uses other words to tell you about it. It is not a crime. And most people do not want to listen to her because of that - that is a crime.
Now in the Fade - damn, poor Sera (understand her reacton and waitng for a punch after).

Sera annoyed me at first but she's actually my go to now whenever I bring a party out. She's so fun and actually has a lot of insight behind what she says. I love her and Blackwall together! I headcanon that after Trespasser, the Inquisition splits up for good and the Inquisitor and Sera just go off and do Red Jenny stuff together, living it up in Kirkwall, eating cookies on rooftops, getting up to mischief with Varric like old times. One thing I love about Sera is how much she changes over the course of the game. You start to realise she sees the bigger picture after the events of the game, she even says she's sorry that Solas left you. She wants to help you and deeply cares for you (if you read her journal) even if she doesn't say it outright. She wants to buy you cookies and fix your hand!!! Her comments about the elven creators and the maker in Trespasser make her such an interesting character with so much potential for growth. I really hope they bring her back in the next game

Sera is so funny she's cute. SOmetimes she says things that are very random and make no sense. Other times she says things that are right on-point and she makes things plain. But through it all she has a sense of humour and some of the things that come out of her mouth are just down-right funny.

So at first I wasn't very fond of Sera, but after my recent playthrough...she's starting to grow on me my Lavellan and her may not have gotten along on terms of religion, but they got along in other areas both are/were angry young women who wanted to make the world better, they may have differed in how they handled it but they worked well together
and the best part? Sera asking Lavellan if they're alright in Trespasser while learning the truth about the Dalish faith After several times of telling that Lavellan is too "elfy" and calling the ancient elves demon worshipers, she still asks if Lavellan is "alright with this" I mean, seriously Sera, how can I still dislike you after you say that?

Another PB btw Sera and Cassandra. Was some time ago so do not remember by heart but have found in the internet as like this one a lot.
C: Sera, do you believe in the Maker? S: Yes? Some of it's a bit off, but - wait, why? C: I just thought, the way you've lived... S: What, I don't belong because I never joined some holy whatever? C: But you're a thief. S: I take back. And you kill people. C: True, but... only those I must. S: Ones who deserve it? Right, we're real different.
Forgot about this PB as do not use Sera as a ranged party member, but now have PT where she is melee.
Two things are very clear Sera sees and understands.
1) I am not a religious person, not even a bit, but imo people who believe in god(s) do not need chantries, priests, rituals, "joining holy whatever". Your faithe is in your heart and it is enough. Sera sees that. Some things are not clear and she wants sort of understanding of religion (clear from PBs and dialogues with her)/interested in Divine/etc (as always with religion I suppose), but she believes and that is in her heart. Going to some holy places, talking to priests etc is not needed actually. Of course for some people it is important, so be it, but do not recall Sera moques those things, she simply thinks those things are not needed.
2) About "right, we are real different". Sera does her thing with "taking back" (Red Jenny things), Cassandra kills people "only whom she must and who deserve it". Sera's last comment about Cassandra trying to compare them both is really smart. Who said that person should be killed or things should be taken back? In this PB as if Cassandra is trying to tell Sera does bad things but Sera makes a really smart comment about who said some poeple should be killed. So right, they both do the same and Sera, from slums, w/o parents, with difficult life had to explain such simple thing to Cassandra.
I like Cassandra but even she does not understand very simple things. If Cassandra (even with rather polite way of talking) is trying to say she is better as she kills only if she must, so Sera explains, as usual in several words with her usual manner of speaking, she takes thing back from some assholes who have stolen them. What's the difference btw them both? Only the area they "work" in.
Can say again: love Sera and she is written in a very smart and tricky way.

Sera is one of the best written characters in any BioWare game, and her motivations and character arc all hang together very well. Sadly, most people don't make the effort to see past "annoying" or "funny" to what's underneath. Their loss. This year I've been playing through the DA games so far in order. It's actually the first time I've ever done that. Nearly to the end of Inquisition now. Oops. Romanced Sera with another mage Lavellan...

I totally agree. Her comment about the seat of the Maker needing a butt and fairy stories about the end of the world being true are so profound and IMO one of the most memorable lines in DAI. Oh also her line where she says usually the heroes show up after the bad stuff happens, but the wardens are the wrong way round. I mean.....she has a point. A very good one. She's probably the most self aware companion in the entire game that thinks deeper about certain historically significant issues than even Dorian!! Lukas Kristjanson wrote her and he also wrote the magnificent Leliana's song and Aveline/Carver, as well as Callback and Genitivi dies in the end in Tevinter Nights (which were among the most engaging stories to me). I think he is such an incredibly talented writer and it's reassuring to me that he's working on DA4. I think he really has a knack for writing characters that are obviously flawed and hard to like from first impressions, but once you get more invested in their story and character you begin to realise they can be endearing and they do in fact have complex layers of emotion/reaction underneath the brashness. Sera is a highlight of his work for me. The way he wrote her dialogue and mannerisms is so effortless and at times almost nonsensical, but once you really get to know her you can tell a lot of thought and work went into crafting her character. It's hard enough to write a character that is even likeable without being a Mary Sue. To write a character that is not only flawed but gives off a very polarising(but memorable) first impression that slowly changes to one of gradual growth and enlightenment while seemingly speaking a new form of English..it's just masterful writing.

The way he wrote her dialogue and mannerisms is so effortless and at times almost nonsensical, but once you really get to know her you can tell a lot of thought and work went into crafting her character So true. Indeed there are SO many dialogues with her where she really has a point. She is just right in many things. The thing that she explains it in her own manner adds more interest to this character. And this difference - her manner of speech + what she says + her notes (in particular in romance) - mix it all and it is just amazing character for me. -- Well, not long ago have finished PT with Sera as LI. My PC - an elf 2h reaver. Team: Cassandra + ranged Sera + Dorian. Some details during PT showing that difference: I invite her to dance, her reaction "What? My feet on this golden floor? No way!", still she agrees and approves that dance (!!), after I read notes about that dance, how she liked it, Sera was happy. IMO Sera just did not get used to many things, does not like to tell about herself, trusting others is difficult as well. Read her notes further: she wants to do something for my PC, tried it, can't (has no skills), but finds some solution like find another person to help. She is ready to read about elf-things just for my PC. She draws pictures - such reaction to different events tells much about Sera. She shows events in images as well. Does not matter how professional it looks, but she expresses her feelings through images as well. So, yeah, Sera is a romantic person no matter how she talks. Love it. Some images of that PT

So, yeah, Sera is a romantic person no matter how she talks. Love it. yeah she is!! She's also the only one in your team that specifically asks a dalish inquisitor if they're okay after learning the truth about the elven gods in Trespasser. She doesn't push her beliefs or opinions on you, she just wants you to be ok. And that just makes me love her even more 💕

I adore Sera! She's one of my top ten favorite Dragon Age characters and probably my favorite DAI romance. Does anyone else ever get frustrated with the dialogue options you get when speaking to her? It's almost like the game wants you to hate her. I've never had trouble understanding Sera, but when I talk to her, my Inquisitor suddenly becomes really dense. I can't say that I agree with her or that I support the Red Jennies or that what she says makes sense or anything! The closest I can get is "I can play along if it works for you" and "I get it, kind of. We just don't think of what you do as the same thing." On the other hand, when you talk to Cole, who also has atypical speech mannerisms, you can be very gentle and supportive and tell him it's okay to not be normal. With Sera, almost every dialogue option is insulting in some way. It's very bizarre. Just the other day I got the scene where Sera is having a full-blown panic attack over a nightmare (idk about you, but I've had nightmares that involved loved ones dying and always felt pretty shaken the next morning) and my only options were 1) "Sorry for your imagination?" 2) "That's the dumbest thing ever" and 3) "I can't be blamed for a dream!" Where's option #4, "What's wrong? Are you okay?" or "I'm here for you, it's going to be alright" or "Do you wanna talk about it while I make you a hot cup of tea?" Let me be nice to my quizzy's gf, Bioware! ):<
