I looked at my stats and at the fav weapon. It's a spear but it's always axes with Eivor in the first PT. Second PT, I went with double handed axe but it's not really a fav because I can see the awkwardness and slow recovery after a swing. I doubt it'll be any different with the double handed hammer. I'm still playing female Eivor, male Eivor has kind of sour for me because he's the mirror image of Havi / Odin. Of whom I don't like much. It didn't help that he's dumb and dumber in the Asgard portion. Have to at some comments I read elsewhere on the debate of which character is canon. Someone quoted the scriptwriter as saying both are canon. Really? How could Basim be that dumb then when male Eivor is the spitting image of Havi / Odin? From one of his conversations with Eivor, he spoke of his son that initially left me puzzled because the implication was he wasn't dead dead but inaccessible. It's only later that I realised that Loki has subsumed Basim . As such, it's utter stupidity he didn't recognise male Eivor. In the confrontation, he said he was looking too hard elsewhere and was blinded to the truth. This statement would only make sense if it's female Eivor. He didn't suspect that Havi's memory engram would reside in a woman It's just imo but like what they said in Highlander; There can be only one. Anyway, I'm smarter in second PT. I followed the roads and stopped haring everywhere. I didn't get the antler mission in first PT and I got it now but I'm not going to chase it.

Welp, just loaded the game, started climbing down a tower, and the game abruptly crashed Bugger hopefully it is a one off. I uninstalled and reinstalled yesterday evening and got 2hrs + without a crash or glitch this morning. Hey do you find the damn camera is all over the place in combat and that Eivor just does the stupidest thing when climbing sometimes? Yes, especially with finishers the camera tends to swing around like crazy. It's super frustrating. Eivor isn't as stupid as Layla, but yeah, she does some dumb things while climbing. Like leaping off a tower all the way to the ground instead of just down to the next ledge, or leaping to the ground instead of into the haystack that is right there, or getting stuck while climbing up even if there is nothing in the way.

I played quite a bit, but no more than usual. That said, I got a lot accomplished.
I completed the Wincestre Arc. A great many of my suspicions regarding the story are all but confirmed. I scoured Hamtunscire clean even though it was obvious I'd be back. I'm glad I did, 'cause EXCALIBUUUUUR! I has it.
All but two of Hytham's targets are dead, and I've chased one of them to Vinland.
Ravensthorpe is fully upgraded. The resources I gathered in Hamtunscire provided exactly the needed raw materials. I wasn't paying too much attention along the way; but the place looks good. The longhouse is the fanciest I've seen anywhere. I need to look inside for my trophies. The fully upgraded farms look much more functional. Until now, it's been about building. Soon I will get to admire my accomplishments.
The Thegn Set looks good for my dual-seax* CRIT-fisher build. I'll let you guys know how that goes. When I left for Vinland, I was still wearing the Carolingian Set, Excalibur and the Briton Shield.
I bought two items from Reda today. (I had over 540 opal, and still have around 300.) I got the fancy black steed and the Dreka Bow. It is still too fantasy, but at least it's different from the Hunnish Bow that I've used the entire game. The Dreka Bow has "more damage with heavier character weight". Considering my favorite armor is a Bear Set, this should be good. If I go full archer, I'll see what all of my options are.
I have so many insane runes, now. At present, the Dreka Bow will automatically create poison traps when I headshot from stealth. That will be fun. There are going to be some interesting builds emerging as more of us collect these high level runes. Sad we will only get to use them in NG+ and/or DLC.
When I get back from Vinland, Sigurd wants to go home to Norway. I'm in the home stretch.
* I was pleased to learn something new. In the modern weapons aficionados community, seax is typically pronounced "sax". In-game, characters pronounced it "seeks". I checked with Google, naturally. While "sax" is listed as acceptable and common, "seeks" is listed as the Old English pronunciation.
As you likely guessed, seax is Saxon for knife. In modern parlance, it denotes a very specific, easily recognizable style of knife. It's cool to learn a pronunciation that may be (maybe not) a bit closer to the old saxon pronunciation.

Nice face tattoo I don't have that one, do you know which it is? That one's "Vestri Wind". I've been a bit salty about collecting tattoos you'll never see, but maybe this is just the excuse to run around topless...

I've been meaning to mention but I keep forgetting; throwing bodies / stuff is now easy to accomplish compared to Odyssey. The mystery about the guy who wants to send his belongings into the afterlife by flinging them off the cliff and following after makes me Eivor's reaction was funny.

I have specifically been buying just face tattoos and am yet to find one I want to change the simple Raven one for. Well if I thought I could cope without my chest armour I'd do the topless thing.

I can’t even find a face one I really like so I’ve just removed all the tattoos. Also used the buzz cut hairstyle (I like the detail of higher up Eivor’s head are scars from the wolf’s claws that held them down as well as the obvious scar on the neck). I hope that in the DLCs or free updates at least one of those adds new hairstyles too. Preferably not the style that all the base ones are.

Woman pacing in front of house in Alrekstad, husband sat inside and spoke of his rising passion. While it is a funny quest, I noticed that the woman is dirt specked. I have noticed this of the NPCs in the game world. Nobody is sparkling clean. Even Eivor would look dirty at times. When someone spoke of smelling her approach, I wondered if the NPC was needling her. After all, I doubt anybody in that era smell like roses. Which led to the question; do Vikings keep proper hygiene? I'll confessed to being curious so I ran a search. Well! Vikings were known for their excellent hygiene. Excavations of Viking sites have turned up tweezers, razors, combs and ear cleaners made from animal bones and antlers. Vikings also bathed at least once a week—much more frequently than other Europeans of their day—and enjoyed dips in natural hot springs. This is surprising. How did Vikings bathe? The Vikings used a homemade soap, which was made from animal fat and ash. Soap was very important to them, and they would let the soap sit for a long time in their hair and beard to bleach it, to get their hair as bright and blond as possible because blond hair was highly sought afterWhat day did Vikings bathe? In my research, I found the common knowledge that Vikings bathed once a week, at Saturday, which meant "Washing Day" in the old Norse. This depicted by the Anglo-Saxons once Vikings settled in England. Vikings were seen as "clean-freaks".Did Vikings have bathrooms?Students of Denmark's Viking age tend to think that countryside settlements didn't have dedicated bathrooms for humans. Instead, they believed that people probably used their feces as fertilizer for fields and may have used their barn as a toilet, mixing their own waste with animal wasteDo Vikings share their wives? In Viking society, infidelity was a serious crime and could often lead to fines, imprisonment, or in extreme cases execution. It was rare for men or women to share their beds with other married couples, but it is also likely that it did happen on occasion. How many wives did Vikings have? Some men would have two to three wives, but the Norse sagas say that some princes had limitless numbers. How did Vikings treat their wives?Viking women enjoyed a high degree of social freedom. They could own property, ask for a divorce if not treated properly, and they shared responsibility for running farms and homesteads with their menfolk. They were also protected by law from a range of unwanted male attention. How often did Saxons bathe?Well it seems that the Saxons were not regular practitioners of whole body immersion. Even so they would bath a few times a year and particularly when they got married. They would also use baths as a medicinal method. This is shown by recipes in Bald's Leechbook (a collection of Anglo-Saxon cures)What did Vikings look like?“From picture sources (images in ancient manuscripts) we know that the Vikings had well-groomed beards and hair. The men had long fringes and short hair on the back of the head. The beard could be short or long, but it was always well-groomed. Further down on the neck, the skin was shaved.
What did a Viking woman look like? The women's faces were more masculine than women's today, with prominent brow ridges. On the other hand, the Viking man's appearance was more feminine than that of men today, with a less prominent jaw and brow ridges. The women’s hair was usually long. It was probably tied into a knot on the back of the head, and the knot may have been decorated with coloured tape, which was braided into the hair. They also wore a bonnet or a scarf around their heads.

Obsidian Gryphon, thanks for sharing. That matches with what I've read. I wish they still took the pains to represent the era as they did in earlier games. Some things are really well researched and well done, while others they clearly threw out the research for the "rule of cool". I understand this needs to be the case in some ways, since this is a game. I hate, thought, that they've fallen into the Hollywood trap of ridiculous, impossible/non-functional armor designs and ubiquitous leather. Leather sucks for clothing, 9C or 21C. People wear cloth. Same for the weapons. A few weapons have correct designs, and are just 150-200% the size they should be. Others don't belong at all. The games are still fun, buy they no longer scratch the historical tourism itch.

A few weapons have correct designs, and are just 150-200% the size they should be. All the two-handed weapons double in size when you are using them. The spears are the worst, they are normal sized spears on your back, but turn into pikes when wielded. Some of the "Dane axe" are actually halberd (I think one is even named as such). The one-handed axes and seax seems normal. I get the feeling they wanted to make more weapon categories than what we had originally. There was even one-handed sword in earlier previews, but they turned all of them into two-handers (for Eivor) now. I think the worst anachronism is the stone forts that I'm supposed to believe are Romans ruins when they are 400 years too early in design. They are cool, but...

I hadn't noticed any particular issues with the fortifications and ruins. I'll be on the watch, now. 😆 Some of them have been really good. I'm sure some rubbish made it's way in, as well. There are just so many cases of anachronism. The weapons and armor are all over the place. We see a few solid pieces alongside fantasy pieces alongside 15C pieces. I know it doesn't register for most people, but seeing 15C technology in 9C is like seeing Ezio riding a motorcycle instead of a horse. It's just weird and kills immersion. Why make a motorcycle when horses are great and fit? Why make crazy armor, weapons, etc... when the real stuff would look great? I know it's verboten to invoke this name, but even The Witcher 3 presents a more consistent world in this regard. (It has plenty of Hollywood issues too, but is surprisingly good in the things we are referencing.) TW should never be a better historical reference than Assassin's Creed. I do enjoy the game, and I won't keep pummeling it. I just don't understand the choices being made. A more historically accurate version would be even better, in my opinion, than the crazy, anime stuff. You could add that stuff via The Store for those who like it; but I believe a surprising number of people would really appreciate a more grounded look. The beauty of historical pieces, and the ambience a consistent world creates, would be well received even if individuals couldn't put the reasons into words.

What would any historian give to have intact that pot I smashed just in case 3 coins were inside? 😆

That list is ridiculous, after all the crashes I have had I have sent a crash report where it was an option so very surprised there are no issues related to those incidences. I also cannot believe I am the only one playing the game that is getting the problem of hitting "E" on a Synchronization Point or to complete an anomaly and having the game crash. Guess I am going to have to log them.

Thanks for going to the trouble to look this up and share OG.

This is the point there is no reason not to stay true to the actual weapons and armour of the age, sure a few embellishments to polish it up and maybe a few older era pieces but for the most part I'd really rather they just made it historically correct. Element Zero I love your comment: "TW should never be a better historical reference than Assassin's Creed."

Obsidian Gryphon , thanks for sharing. People wear cloth.Same for the weapons. A few weapons have correct designs, and are just 150-200% the size they should be. Others don't belong at all. The games are still fun, buy they no longer scratch the historical tourism itch. I was thinking of that too; shouldn't their clothing be lighter once they reached England? A change of armour type for the warmer climes. It would be nice if everyone was wearing finery or their best for the wedding. It's a chance to showcase some authentic clothing. It's a small group, should be simple enough but no. The devs are getting lazy and lazier.

So, I've finished the "main story", and presumably have only the build up to the Battle of Edington. I'm making an assumption here, since I'm currently in Norway. I refuse to return to England without MJOLNIR! 😈
In a similar vein, Gungnir is amazing. I like its look, its sounds and its impossible reach. I suspect it will be my most used weapon, even if it's not always my primary.
Not all that relevant, but I'm presently PL 400+61 Mastery Points. I heard the current cap is 490. I doubt I'll reach that ceiling with bugged world events denying easy points, but we shall see.
So far, I'm 4 for 4 in my major plot predictions. I expect my 5th major prediction will be confirmed before it's all finished.
How much better is the modern story with well acted characters? Sean and Rebecca returning is a long overdue godsend. Layla's VA misses a few lines here and there, delivering with a bit too much flippancy; but she's done pretty well with the material written for her. Hasting's VA is phenomenal, and the newer, more sedate Rebecca is good. This is much better than the terrible, junior high crap we've had recently.
That's all I'll say for now. I know this is the spoiler thread, but I won't spoil anything before more in the thread finish the game. I have commitments tonight, so I may not get to play again. Oof. I'm so eager to finish this game.
EDIT: I just recalled this thought, as my mind meanders through my AC experiences while I'm supposed to be paying attention elsewhere. 😏
In that decisive moment with Sigurd, it was cool to hear him recount Eivor's deeds and unreproachable loyalty. Eivor always talked about wanting to be loyal, and I was conscientious in showing that support of Sigurd. The writers and VA in this scene did a good, nuanced job in acknowledging their history. I really enjoyed it.
