The more I play Eivor the more I like her. At first I found the voice a bit distracting but I think I have become used to it and it doesn't bother me s much if at all anymore. I guess she's supposed to be the solid stoic type and so a bit emotionless but the glimpses of humour and enjoyment are all the richer for it I think. It was fun her playfulness with Ass Stick. I found the voice more distracting the longer I played as her. She's so inconsistent. If I play through again I'll try male Eivor I guess. There's discussion on this because of the different performance of the two actors or rather the odd direction / directive for the female VA. She doesn't sound smoky in real life, her voice is smooth. Why didn't the devs choose to let her use her natural voice? Is there a reason for this? At best, it is conjectured that; Female Eivor is the canon character as she's named Varinsdotter, a clear indication that Eivor is a daughter of Varin. As such, she is the person living during the Viking era and suffered the wolf attack that damaged (she indicated at some point in the game) her vocal cords. Hence, her voice is coarse and uneven. Never maintaining the same tone / timbre. The devs could have intentionally directed the female VA to sound smoky / uneven to illustrate the effect of her injury. If this is the objective, then most players didn't get it because there're many who thought the female VA was all over the place and is not as good as the male VA. Male Eivor is the Isu memory engram of Havi / Odin. He's a memory and is not in control of Eivor's body. Therefore, his voice is unaffected. Female Eivor is the first sign that the recessive Isu gene can manifest in females. The actress has been acting since she was 10 years old and involved in many projects; acting, voice acting. So I don't believe she cannot deliver a good performance. The smoky / hoarse uneven voice is deliberate. I don't find her smoky voice distracting or bad. I have, as many have thought, that she sounded uneven and wondered why because it's odd; why did she sound like that?

To those playing on PC, how do you like the 'switch locked on target' mechanic for M&K? I just realized it's not the scroll wheel like in Odyssey. Not sure I like it because it requires a really sharp turn with the mouse. In theory, this should work better but it seems to be bugged.

Maybe twice? While I'll occasionally take a swipe at someone I didn't intend to, I haven't really found it necessary.

He just nails every line, every scene. Obsidian Gryphon, my concerns with Cecilie's Eivor were the same. The hoarse voice wasn't an issue. I don't love it, but neither do I dislike it. It was her flat, off-target delivery that killed my immersion. It was nowhere near the level of performance I'd expect for the lead in a big budget, AAA title. I guess this post will just make me sound like a grumpy jerk, since I'm going to complain about Yule. It has introduced a bunch of bugs and loooong loading times to my game. The events are boring. I'll farm tokens via the drinking game and get all the stuff like a good, OCD-driven Ubi-gamer. I'll be glad, though, when it is gone and my load times (hopefully) return to just gratingly long, rather than absurdly long. I'd have preferred a handful of quests that give a heap of tokens, rather than the repetitive time sinks that are these mini-games. I hope they get good feedback and don't do something similar with Spring and Summer events. Anyway, I'm sort of crawling my way through this PT. I'm currently pledged to Cent, but haven't gone too far with it. I'm sort of shuffling my feet, waiting for more features and bug fixes to be added. I know it could be a long wait, but meh.

Meanwhile I can’t really stand the male Eivor’s voice and much prefer the female voice. A less common, but perfectly valid, take. I loved Alexios in Odyssey, while many found him intolerable. I got a kick out of his dude-bro sound, and thought he really shined in moments of intense emotion. Melissanthi's performance was pretty much perfect, so I had two great choices for Odyssey, and lean toward Alexios because I felt he fit some moments better. Having choices is almost always good.

I ran with female Eivor for the main game, but male Eivor for the mythic quests, and that felt like the right mix to me. I agree with Element Zero, I don't think the voice direction they gave Cecilie for female Eivor was the greatest, but I got used to it. Early on it was pretty clear that this was the canon choice.

Meanwhile I can’t really stand the male Eivor’s voice and much prefer the female voice. Same. I can understand if people don't like the raspiness of female Eivor, but I thought her performance was great otherwise. Even the raspy quality is consistently inconsistent. Her voice is raspy when she's speaking loudly or even at a normal volume, and relatively smooth when she's speaking softly. It seems logical to me. Havi's VA (at least while voicing Havi) has too smooth of a voice for the character. Plus, since I associate him with Havi, and Havi is an asshole, I wouldn't want that voice coming out of Eivor. I ran with female Eivor for the main game, but male Eivor for the mythic quests, and that felt like the right mix to me. Did you do that manually? Or did you let the Animus choose? (The "Animus chooses" way does exactly that.) I think based on what we learn at the end of the game, it makes sense that they split up the memories that way.

My version of flat is the robotic tone to everything. I do hear inflections in her voice so I perceived it differently. It's the case of the chicken I guess.

So I did the Sussexe arc yesterday and cleaned a lot of stuff up in the shire. Re the story I liked it for the most part but the game mechanics of clearing supply dumps destroy the weapon caches is getting repetitive. I enjoyed letting Fulke's Lieutenant go and him abusing Eivor and then getting to kick his ass later. I thought they drew the Fulke fight out too long and for me the I either did something wrong or the ramming the gate bugged out. It was impossible for me and the troops manning the ram to not keep gtting burnt to death and so the ram could never get moved. And yes we braced and raised our shields but it didn't help. So after 15 minutes of trying to just get the ram to the gate I gave up and climbed the walls and magically the gate opened without any effort from me. Then back to Ravensthorpe to listen to Sigurds raving, not sure why some of the shires only pop after rescuing Sigurd anyway pledged to somewhere, game seemed to be pushing a particular shire but I chose another as it was lower level can't remember which. Pic's Did another cairn, I am still not enjoying them and sticking to my 15 minute limit this one just got completed. Have left two uncompleted so far, the last one was one with the wind effect, it only got 5 minute time limit. Made another offering Rescued Alice a girl who chased a rabbit who was in a hurry down a rabbit hole???? Climbed a tree to buy a shell, a boot and a petrified worm from some kids. I believe the boot had a treasure map in it but it was still an expensive exercise. Immolated a guy Scenery Hrungr I think this may be my best shot in Valhalla so far

dazk, the armor is a recoloring of the Hunter's set. I can't recall the perks, but they were solid. There is a nice-looking, decent light shield; and a good seax. Of all of the stuff, I'll definitely use the seax. I thought the tattoos (more like body paint in appearance) were pretty ugly; but I'm rarely into that stuff. My favorite tattoos are all accessible early in the base game, and are nearly invisible unless Eivor removes his/her top. The decor is okay. I'm not sure I'll use it. I put the fire pit behind the barracks, I think. At least it's useful, right? Nice place to drink, talk, etc... It's cool that they are supporting the game like this. I do hope they go in a different direction next season. The highlights for me were the two quests. They were short; introduced some characters and personality to the community; and paid out lots of tokens. I'd prefer three or four quests to two quests + minigame grinding. I zoned out and let my mind wander earlier as I powered through about two dozen drinking matches. It's crazy how the brain's default mode (DMN, default state) can handle nearly anything with amazing smoothness. I always "zone out" for coordination-based minigames. Removing thought from the equation improves my reaction time and accuracy. Doing all those contests this afternoon must've taken at least 25+ minutes. I only made a single mistake. It's so fascinating. The competitor at Ravensthorpe is the worst competitive drinker in the game, so beating him isn't too hard. Still, he was always barely beginning his third horn as I finished. The human brain is pretty damn fascinating. Long, DMN induced rambling made short: I acquired every Yule item today, and won't have to mess with Yule again, aside from loading into the game drunk everyday and enduring new bugs. 🙄

Just had a crash and this was something I forgot to mention in my earlier post about yesterdays post, I had several yesterday so I am guessing it is due to the Yule Fest stuff. Very annoying as it is just very random like just now in the middle of a conversation with Halfdan, Anyway thanks Element Zero re the info. on the Yule Fest I'll give it a go at some stage in the next twenty days. Hrungr yes a beach BBQ was in order but tried fishing on the beach and even though the other guy there fishing had baskets full I could see no fish with Odin sight nor did I catch any. Here's one I just took of the Jotenheim set on the dragon boat

So had a pretty good day settling into England and getting England used to me. I started off almost instantly, started upgrading a few of my buildings in Raventhorpe, did some more raiding for resources, and then made the first priority to build the Hiddens One Beureu for Hytham so that I could get all the information on the Order of Ancients and get that stuff started too. Oh it was funny too because going through their list one of the OOAs is called 'the Arrow' that game me a good chuckle. Wonder who the Grand Magister is... The settlement makes a lot of sense though it does not work the way I thought it was going to work... basically I thought each building would have upgrades as you built them all and that is how you levelled up was getting each of your buildings to a higher level...no says the man in Lunden!...instead levelling up gives you access to more buildings. Suddenly a lot of things make sense and I actually do like it...because this is really a realistic and non intrusive video game system when you get down to it. So since the Yuletide festival does not unlock until you have committed yourself to an alliance I am off to do just that... going to start with the Grantebredischier arc since I have seen the ledeschire arc or at least good chunks of it like three times now. *shrug* To Serve the LightNot much to say there just I really liked the conversation between Eivor and Hytham on the competing philosophies of the Assassins and the Vikings and how they match. Basically...I mean paraphrasing wildly...but kind of a live in your moment approach to death, do not believe you will die, just ignore it and move on. Which meshed nice with Eivor's little tapestry of fate thing. Which I love it when things like that happen.
But then it was weird that Eivor was like 'I have see n my death and this is not it.' When did this happen?
Oh and me and my wife both like Eivor's internal monologues. Its a little weird, but good.

Once you start building things make sure you check what the "benefit/reward" is before you invest the Raw Materials so that you can prioritise what benefit you want. They should show I think when you click on the interact sign outside the building you are looking to build or upgrade. As you add buildings you can ring a bell outside the the door to the main hall (anytime) and the benefits you get from building the various buildings get added to your stats for 4 hours of game play I think. The benefits are like +3 Melee damage etc. Anyway when you click on the bell you'll see the benefits you have gained and if you choose to have a a feast you get all those benefits for the next 4 hours of game play.

OMG pledging to Eurviscire, the gift that keeps on giving and add a few crashes/screen freezes and well it was a long afternoon and now having gone back to Randvi it still hasn't finished. I kept going till 6-30pm when I should have been cooking dinner for my family, so the game cost me $40 in take-away/dine out.

To those playing on PC, how do you like the 'switch locked on target' mechanic for M&K? I just realized it's not the scroll wheel like in Odyssey. Not sure I like it because it requires a really sharp turn with the mouse. In theory, this should work better but it seems to be bugged. I think I've tried using the lock-on target feature... once? Maybe twice? While I'll occasionally take a swipe at someone I didn't intend to, I haven't really found it necessary. Them getting rid of friendly fire also helps with this.

So yesterday was a bit frustrating due to a crash and two screen freezes. The screen freezes were doubly annoying previously as they didn't generate an error report but something changed with the last patch so that after freezing they crash back to Uplay and send an error rerport so at leastUbi will be getting this info. It was even more frustrating as the crash happened in the Stonewege part of the Eurverscire pledge meaning I lost progress and had to start again but the good/bad thing was when I restarted it i didn't have any allies. I find the allies truly annoying especially the solo companions who want to actually go on missions with you and find they add little value so I didn't miss them even taking on a whole Pict fort. Overall I liked this story arc with Halfdan etc. I liked the take on the mental ailments of Halfdan but wish you could have romanced Mora Witcher style and I'd liked to have been able to actually truly determine Faravid's innocence or not. I liked the twist of the betrayal and the final battle with the Pict's but really didn't like returning to Ravensthorpe and Sigurd's intervention on the trial and then finding out Eurviscire had not finished. I am also sick of stuff happening in places that seem to always be at least 700m and equidistant from any Fast Travel point. Made the time to do some fishing yesterday in various places and was rewarded with some Large catches of a Salmon and a Trout I think. Dropped out of the Animus and caught up on some new stuff and re-read a lot of the earlier material. Had a chat with Sean and Rebecca as well. Overall a fun day Pic's The lovely Mora Eivor obviously went to the Shepard school of dancing Halfdan the nut job Sigurd the nut job Felt sorry for Faravid, didn't like being sho horned into this decision New facial tattoo for Eivor but not sure how long I will stick with it Hit and surpassed 400

dazk , I was just watching this video about a PC that keeps crashing during Cyberpunk, and thought about your many crashes in Valhalla. They ended up having to replace the graphics card, but they try several other things first. Maybe there is an idea here that could help?

dazk , I was just watching this video about a PC that keeps crashing during Cyberpunk, and thought about your many crashes in Valhalla. They ended up having to replace the graphics card, but they try several other things first. Maybe there is an idea here that could help? Thanks will have a look a bit later. I am although 100% it is the game I have never had this issue with my current PC in any other game. The game keeps generating error reports which would indicate it is the game. To demonstrate that it is an issue with the game I lost 3 hours of play time today as I decided to do the Yule Fest quests after going to Eurviscire to finish that story. Did the arrow shooting (missed maybe 3 targets and she praises Eivor all the way then at the finish condescendingly says you could do better), did the boxing (god was that a boredom fest) and then decided to do the missing ale quest. After five attempts with various issues after retrieving the ale these things happened, retrieved the ale but got shot by bandits so put the ale down and it disapeared, the quest marker being in the wrong place, when reloading a terrible audio sound in the loading screen started happening, always being drunk when reloading even older saves including ones before the Yule stuff, some of my saves were renamed incorrectly so I just gave up. The solution was to use my last save from last night which seems to have worked. I was almost at the point at giving up and restarting the game but am going to have a break and re-do the final part of Eurviscire, the part which was boring as shit and lots of travel where you go to find Halfdan, then his hammer etc. Too cranky to play ATM going to have some lunch.

One way to test if it's hardware is to play another game. HZD is pretty cranky so could try that. Or try Odyssey.
