I’ve got a proper lore video for you today, even if on the shorter side, and some of them have a new intro I’m using for my videos! Also, did you know that Heidrun Thaig, the setting for the Descent DLC, first appeared ina codex entry from DA2 describing an encounter between a rock wraith and the legion of the dead? I didn’t!

Also, did you know that Heidrun Thaig, the setting for the Descent DLC, first appeared ina codex entry from DA2 describing an encounter between a rock wraith and the legion of the dead? I didn’t! Neither did I until you drew my attention to it. Apparently that rock wraith hated the darkspawn more than the Legion of the Dead and seemed content to leave the latter alone once they had left the Deep Roads. There has to be a connection between the rock wraiths and the Sha-Brytol since both groups seem to share the same determination to drive out all intruders from the area they feel bound to protect but do not seek to leave it. As the rock wraiths are found in abundance in the Ancient Thaig where we also found the red lyrium idol, I do wonder if the immergence of the Sha-Brytol had something to do with Mythal's activities in the Deep Roads. If the Titan told Valta it had no need of their protection, it does not seem like the Titan was driving them, so could Mythal have created the Sha-Brytol to guard the interior of the Titan from the other Evanuris? Remember the elven rhyme we find in the descent, which roughly translated as: I am empty, filled with nothing(?), Mythal gives you dreams. It fills you, within you(?), Making our leaders proud. My little stones, Never yours the sun. Forever, forever. So was this speaking of the creation of the Sha-Brytol by Mythal by giving them dreams (feeding them lyrium)?

I’m not sure the Sha-Brytol re-emerged so much as reacted to the Inquisition and the Legion of the Dead entering their tunnels. I’m under the impression they’ve always been down there. It could be the Sha-Brytol were created to protect the Titans from contamination. I believe there’s speculation that the Evanuris somehow tainted a Titan, resulting in Red Lyrium and the Ancient Thaig. Admittedly, my memory on that bit of lore is vague. Perhaps the reason the Sha-Brytol are so obsessed with purity is that they were created to prevent Darkspawn or any other source of Blight from infecting other Titans, a form of quarantine.

I’m not sure the Sha-Brytol re-emerged so much as reacted to the Inquisition and the Legion of the Dead entering their tunnels. I’m under the impression they’ve always been down there. I'd agree with that. It is noticeable that there were no darkspawn in the depths where the Sha-Brytol are so their guardianship would seem to have been effective. Was the strange armour and drinking lyrium necessary to keep them from being infected? It could be the Sha-Brytol were created to protect the Titans from contamination. Which does beg the question, who created them? I don't believe that is how the dwarves are naturally or surely the Titan would take responsibility for them? Instead the Titan seemed to feel they were not needed and clearly did not identify with them as its children, whereas it made a connection with Valta. Which is why I recalled the poem from the Descent and wondered if Mythal had a hand in it. I definitely believe that the rock wraiths are dead Sha-Brytol, poor souls that are condemned to a half-life existence due to the lyrium they consumed, rejected by the Stone and yet not able to enter the Fade and find peace because they belong to neither world. In fact could rock wraiths be Sha-Brytol that consumed red lyrium, either willingly or forced? If they were sealed in when the elves collapsed the tunnels as described in Trespasser, may be they had no choice.

Were the rock wraiths dwarves? I’ve wondered if they were actually ancient elves. Two things make me wonder: 1) If the red lyrium idol was always connected to Solas, then why would it be in a dwarven thaig? There’s any number of reasons why, but perhaps the “Primeval Thaig” was never dwarven to begin with. 2) The codex for the Profane says “we ate our gods.” But the Titans weren’t gods to the ancient dwarves, they were more like parents. And indeed, the word “Profane” is generally meant to have a religious context. dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Codex_entry%3A_The_ProfaneI’mma cross-post this.

I'd never made the connection between the Rock Wraiths and the Sha-Brytol, but it is a fascinating one to ponder - I'm sure you're right that the idea of them feasting on their gods involves lyriuum and Titans. Oh - you should definitely feel free to include conjecture in your videos and not just 'fact'. It provokes more thought, I find.
Keep up the good work!
