I think if they really wanted to move forward with Part 3 if they could. Since what they are working on right now is pretty much another sequel and a remake. I would agree that they do have a major drain right now inside the company with how the development of Part 2 went as well. I think the third problem they have right now is the public backlash against Part 2. Even though it sold well, I wonder if Sony wants them to put the time and money into a third game when there could still be the cloud from Part 2 hanging over the game.

They need to take a break from the franchise and get to work on another, smaller IP to recharge their batteries.
Also getting rid of toxic management or at least making sure they don't have any creative input would be great.

I agree, but at this point, I’m convinced that their creative currency is in too short a supply to even start up a new IP. I suspect that for a good few years more, they’re just going to be The Last Of Us Studio.

I would say a The Last of Us / Uncharted studio for those are the two franchises they control and it sounds like they are currently working on a new Uncharted game. Of course if those reports are accurate the idea they are going back to remake The Last of Us: Part 1 concerns me for to me based on who controls the story design for games will want to go back and make the narrative of the first game fit more inline with what they did with Part 2. Now I will be happy if I am proven wrong, but the statements they made around Part 2 leaves me concerned.

The Last of Us 2 gets high praise from Xbox's internal review team www.gamesradar.com/the-last-of-us-2-gets-high-praise-from-xboxs-internal-review-team/The game's 'storytelling' is a bloated 10 hours of meh with constant flashbacks, time skips, and switching of POVs. Also there's far too many characters to allow them to be memorable and 90% of them are chaff. This is not Spec Ops: The Line (I love it but its overrated) nor MGS2 levels of narrative storytelling. This is just a mere subversion of the revenge story; hell, TLOU made a far better and more impactful subversion of the saving mankind story.

RIP to player agency, but the review team's assessment leaves me mildly hopeful that Micro's studios aren't hellbent on abandoning gameplay to produce film games. The big irony of the last sentence is that regardless of the quality TLOU2's gun/shooting mechanics design stealth was the intended playstyle, and even that was lacking despite Naughty Dog being given years to study old games like MGS3-5, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Thief 2.

The Last of Us 2 gets high praise from Xbox's internal review team Hmm them wanting to have a wank over the narrative most certainly doesn't outweigh whether people like or gain any enjoyment from playign a game.

After reading the Microsoft review it makes me wish that was the kind of review games got more often. So many feel like they are fan reviews and are looking for reasons to justify the outcome they have. Which is why I don't think I fell into the trap of having expectations for a video game anymore, I don't care what anyone online has to say about a game until I play it.

No, but it does help confirm my bias about the industry with regards to story and themes.

TLOU 2 is closer to Spec Ops in terms of narrative “quality” than MGS2 THAT game is how you mess with a player expectations and get them to question their morality. But yeah I’m on the optimistic side with Microsoft’s development, hopefully they can learn from Naughty Dogs mistakes

I'm slightly regretting the choice to switch to the hard difficulty to give another playthrough a go. It involves a lot of "restart encounters" as soon as I'm spotted, sometimes after 20 minutes of sneaking that has to be redone.
I Still like the little character moments during Seattle Day 1. It's a shame those all but disappear starting on Day 2.

As it is my first attempt at the hard difficulty, I did not have the balls to waste the resources on actually leaving it there.

Currently replaying this game in the festive season and goodness what an amazing game this is. The gameplay is as smooth as the calves of a cyclist and the story is one of the best ever told in the medium.
