So now reviews are bad? Well I'm pretty sure once Cyberpunk comes out reviews will be good now. With the exception of a few people like Sanunes, many of those most vocal in their negativity haven't even played the game. They've formed opinions based upon disjointed, discontextualized snippets. I'm not saying they'd definitely like the game if they played it. They may not. Without having played it, verbally trashing it, ranting about how objectively bad it is, and making all sorts of hyperbolic remarks just seems like wasted energy to me. It's not the first this has happened, though, and won't be the last. Sometimes people just want or need to be pissed, I guess? The positive reviews are definitely not fake or propaganda. I've read half a dozen more since logging out of the PS4 for the night. (I was curious just how broad and real the negative feelings for this game really are, so I've done research.) The consensus I've seen from those who have played it seems to be, "Extremely well done, very dark for stretches, exhausting but worth the rough ride". I've seen these same thoughts echoed across the vast majority of reviews. There are some who hated it, of course, and a few who were middle of the road. It's fine to dislike this or any game. It's fine to be annoyed about it and share, vent, etc... I'm actually getting some chuckles out of the uninformed shitposting here, though. The content, or lack thereof, in these posts clearly identifies who has and hasn't played the game. So much angst based upon no actual hands on knowledge. As for my Survivor+ adventure, Ellie just met up with Jesse. She was expecting to find Tommy, but was plenty pleased to find Jesse, too. Reading her thoughts in her journal is always cool. Conveying feelings via scribbled notes and journals sounds meh, but I find it works great in this game. The writing is always poignant, except when it's a silly dick pic drawn by a bored guard. I guess even those have a certain poignancy, too, if you find the dude dead or infected nearby. There's a quick break for another great flashback upon returning to the theater. Ellie clearly feels awkward with Dina and Jesse catching up, given Dina's situation. She wanders off and we get to see more Joel. They have a nice adventure that gets sidetracked and turns terrifying. Joel is a total badass, going toe to toe with a bloater to save Ellie. Ellie is her usual, irrepressible self. She was such a fun kid. Makes me want to revisit the first game again, soon. Then, she confronts Joel pretty directly about Salt Lake and he continues the lie. She's not buying, but what can she do in the moment? Back to the present, I saved very near the hospital. I have some crazy stuff to guide her through before arriving. This PT is zipping buy. I still managed to miss a collectible in the last section. I thought I was being so thorough. 🤨 I guess I'll have to drop in with chapter select and cleanup leftovers once I'm finished. I'm curious to see whether the atmosphere wears me down as I continue. The first PT was exhausting due to the combination of tension and consistent violence. Subsequent PTs lack that first-time sense of dread and tension. That might counter-balance the long, violent road ahead. We'll see. I was really looking forward to Abby's section from early on this time, but I find I am enjoying Ellie's time in Seattle more than I did the first time. It flows much better when I'm not dying horrifically a dozen times per session. I thought the game might have some minor pacing issues; but I'm finding those issues evaporate when I don't get killed. Again, that's the difference between the initial PT and all subsequent to it. I really enjoy a good game even more on subsequent PTs. Well, this post has gotten super long. I guess this is my, "What did you do today in TLoU2?" Ah the old "you haven't played so u dont know what ur talking about" I mean I have played the first game multiple times (which I loved by the way), have read the sequel's plot and have watched play-through's of the game but my opinion isnt valid because I dont own the game. Great logic

The Last of Us, Walking Dead - same dross. Went completely past me with the great deluge of zombie horror survivals of the early 20-tens. My zombie hunger is more or less sated for the foreseeable future. I found The Long Dark a very refreshing survival game without the fucking zombies for a change.

Great logic I said nothing of the sort. I encourage you to read it again. Your opinion is fine. That's the nature of benign opinions. I've just pointed out that many opinions expressed here are based upon inaccurate info and half-baked assumptions. I can say that with certainty because I've played the game. I have real data. I am confident that many would feel differently had they experienced the game as it was designed to be experienced and/or waited to form strong opinions until they'd played it themselves. For most, playing the game wouldn't make them suddenly like it, especially at this point. I still find myself amazed, though, at how readily people form angry online echo chambers for this type of thing; particularly when they haven't taken the time to form an educated opinion via firsthand experience. Human nature, I guess. I'm not attacking anyone or their right to disagree. I come here to discuss games with people of differing opinions. I do encourage people not to fall into the trap of online ranting and shitposting on topics of which they have only second-hand knowledge at best. That's it. I don't expect most will care what I have to say on that, but I still feel it's worth saying. I won't keep repeating it ad nauseum. I've already said my piece.

It sounds out of place considering my enjoyment of this game, but I otherwise have zero interest in zombie stuff, or even horror in general. I only played TLoU because it was a ND game and I held them in high regard. It didn't disappoint, so I readily played the second. This means I'm mercifully immune to much of the tropey stuff that no doubt has more culturally up-to-date people yawning or rolling their eyes. I simply haven't played or viewed any other of the zombie offerings. I guess I'm thankful on multiple levels. The stuff is pretty gross to me, and I'm sure I'd tire of it rapidly. 😆

Honestly I think this backlash towards reviews now and days is less about actual corruption and more about having opinions they don’t like.

Yes butthurt for having a different opinion than you, why else would you bring up a totally unrelated game and try and suggest that I would somehow flip-flop my opinion based on that game, you know nothing about me or my taste in gaming so it's a frankly bizarre comment to make. Where have I gone into a tirade about someone's opinion? This has clearly touched a nerve with you,the fact that ur bringing up some crazy conspiracies theories about review corruption (something I have not once mentioned/suggested). I think the game is garbage, alot of people share the same oppinion. Dont like then ignore but if you make snarky comments I will respond.

I just finished NG+ Seattle Day 3 with Ellie. I really do like the cast and characters. Jesse seems like the kind of guy with whom I'd be good friends.
Time to enjoy Abby's arc again. It felt like the better part of the game during my first PT. We'll see if my opinions change this time. Most of her friends seem decent enough and loyal. Jordan was a dick. (He probably only joined the Jackson mission to avoid taking orders in Seattle.) Manny seems douchey, but still likeable. I've known a few douchelords whom I liked. Manny seems loyal to the core, and ready to do whatever his friends need. Those qualities can turn ugly, as they do in this game; but they can also make for a great friend.

I don't own TLOU2 and haven't played it since I don't own a playstation, and even if I did I probably wouldn't buy the game in the first place. I only got interested in the weird controversy around its release and the odd unison with which game journos sung its praises, complete with utterly bizarre tweets about how it is the Schindler's List of gaming when everything else is John Wick. John Wick and TLOU2 are both revenge stories, and during both the protagonist's dog gets killed. I'd also like to know who of the throat stabbers and golfing pros is supposed to be Oskar Schindler.

The Schindler’s List shit is a huge reason why gaming”journalism” is mocked.... by no objective measure is TLOU2 even near that level. The gaming media is only making it worse by lashing out like brats at the majority of gamers.

I mean, straight up revenge tale that actually lets me get all the revenge I want? Sign me the hell up. Like, I wouldn't want to play Schindler's List: The Game. That sounds terrible.

Should be noticed that even John Wick spares more people and is less brutal on his quest than Ellie does on hers.

Like saying something is the Citizen Kane of whatever.

It may be true, but I still don't know how everything else is John Wick and what does that mean.

Eh, seems like a pretty general idea that could be applied to any particular drama film. In any case, the idea of confronting violence in a video game that makes violence fun and engaging is pretty hilarious in its irony.
But the whole Schindler's List vs John Wick stuff still smacks of pretentious hogwash a dumb hipster might conjure up for their empty, snooty commentary.

I have a suspicion that the tweeter never watched Schindler's List and only mentioned the film due to it's prestige. Wouldn't Full Metal Jacket or Boys in the Hood be better comparisons than Schindler's List? This reminds me of the same talking points that were used to promote Spec Ops: The Line.

Honestly John Wick 2 is a better comparison to The Last of Us Part 2 and I think it does the cycle of violence story better.

I absolutely love the reference to John Wick as if the game elevates itself above that, when in truth people would *love* to play a game that ran like John Wick lol.
It should also be noted that she spares Abby at the end.

I have so many emotions right now and I just finished it, but the game is not amazing nor is the game awful, but I still have chills and can't play another game right now. So, I don't know what that means.

I never said Ellie never spared anyone, just John Wick spares more. Both those deserving of his rage, and those who aren't. Meanwhile Ellie spares only the person who actually committed the crime that set her on this murderous rampage, with everyone else being her victims.

I think her forgiving Abby was Ellie accepting what Abby had done to Joel. Remember, that Ellie wouldn't forgive Joel for sparing her life in the hospital. She says like her life would've meant something, even Abby says something similar to her father if she was immune. I don't blame Abby at all for killing Joel giving that the doctor was her father who Joel kills to free Ellie. It's the same raw emotion that Joel felt at the end of TLOU1 expect we see it through Abby's eyes. At the end of the day Abby and Ellie I think learn compassion/forgiveness.

They should have learned that before murdering hundreds on their quest. Also still has nothing to do with my post, though if we must connect it at least John kept giving the option to either avoid conflict or at least minimize casualties, both before and after the fights, something Ellie never does.
