As we know the Elf design in Dragon Age has had a few changes over the years. In Dragon Age Origins we had the 'short humans with pointy ears' look. In DA2 the Elves were changed quite a bit. They were a lot skinnier, short of shoulder, with large eyes. DAI kinda muddies the water a little bit as Elves come in different shapes and sizes. You have the ancient Elves like Solas who carry a strong, wide frame, and then you have the regular elves that look more like the elves in DA2. I think the goal for Elf design should be like the one shown on the DAI tarot card. Small in stature, but strong with noticeable shoulders. This doesn't need to be all elves, but I'd like to see this for Elves that are in combat roles. Now the body change could be a little awkward if the Inquistor returns as a protagonist - but you could just say he's been eating good during those long nights at Skyhold.

I would like them to go back to the Origins design or similar. I hate the underfed alien look they gave elves in later games, especially for the pc. In DAI they didn't use the DAI elf design for elf companions, most likely because of how bad it looked. If it looks that bad that it can't be used for companions, then it shouldn't be the look of the pc or other elf npcs, either.

I liked DAI's design the best - especially for the female elves. They're clearly distinguishable from the humans but not too alien or weird looking like the elves in DA2.
I hope we can customize our characters body in DA4. Like how tall and heavy they are. If not sliders then 4 different body types for each race: skinny, slim/athletic, muscular, fat. Also wish there was an option for body tattoos, scarring, etc.

Of all of them, I probably preferred their appearance in Origins. It's not that big a deal for me either way, since I'm most likely going to play as a human, but it's not possible for me to make an elf in DAI that I like looking at very much.

I think how Elves are depicted in illustrations in the canon novels and the comic spin-offs are the canon look for the Elves. Next-gen console means better graphics and a better depiction and distinguishing between the races.

Personally I want the Elves to resemble the more Ancient variety of Elves, like the Sentinels or Solas, they are clearly still Elves just different to the more modern Elves.

I wonder if we neglect that customization options were limited on our part, and - to some degree - for BioWare was well; in older Dragon Age titles. That isn't to say there cant be a theme, or that BioWare cant make custom faces for notable NPC's. But I would think with better Character Customization tools, the idea behind what an elf should always look like becomes much more blurry.
If I had to give my own take, I'd like to combine the vibrancy of elven eyes, from DA2, and combine them with the elvish look from DA:I. Not the eye size, mind you. Most greater color variation and contrast/colors.

Also wish there was an option for body tattoos, scarring, etc. Body type customization would be great. One of my big objections to the design of elves in DAI is that, if you play an elf pc, you have to have an ultraskinny body type, which I don't like at all for my pc. This is for female elves as well. I don't mind slender, but not as skinny as they were in DAI.

I think BioWare is rather of the opinion that fat and/or very muscular elves are not, in fact, a thing. They've had plenty of opportunity in ancillary media and art to show races with different body types if they were so inclined.

While body customization would fix the issues that people have with a pre-determined body type, I don’t see it happening unless we have only a human protagonist. They’re not going to have four different playable races with body customization, and I do think that with the aumont of work that race options require, I don’t think it’s a primary issue in the case we’ll get race options. If we’ll have the latter, I’d rather prefer that they focus on better hair/beard options, and the quality of the textures, then body customization.
That said, I hope that the elf body type gets slightly tweaked. I don’t mind at all the fact that they want to make elves different in terms of physique from humans, with less muscolar tone...but not having them being bulky doesn’t mean that they have to make them have noodle arms. And it’s even worse when they design the elven companions with bulkier, less ridicolous build. Solas and Sera both have arms (and I think shoulders) that are bigger then the rest of the elves in the games, including the MC, and I figure that it has to do with making them more appealing.

I wasn't thinking of very fat or very muscular, but why not include them in the character creator as body types? Let people select what they want. They could give male elf npcs Solas's body type.

That shouldn't create much more work because they are using it anyways for humans.

I checked, and yes, compared to Solas, that has an unique body type that is different from both humans and elves, Sera has the female human body type. The reasoning is the same, though, they made their bodies different then the standard, noodle-armed elven body.

BioWare kind of seems to want to pretend that Dawn of the Seeker never existed. But I am absolutely in favour of body options for all races, I find the homogeneity of all the non-human races incredibly boring.

I’d be happy with a slight buffening (totally a word! ) of the DAI elves. I do kind of like how “shrivelled” the modern day elves are to ancient ones though. Helps reinforce just how far they have fallen from what they used to be.

But they never incorporate the interesting stuff from the ancillary media into the games in any kind of meaningful way. It's all just coddx shit or minor references in dialogue that the player has to dig for. "Oh hey, we have this character who has a unique magical gift never before seen in our series (called DRAGON AGE) that lets her talk to and control DRAGONS. How about we put her in DAI, but make her Tranquil, and her only function is to provide some minor worldbuilding and then die."

I liked the head/faces of the elves in dai just fine but their bodies looked unhealthily thin and disproportionately small. Which neither looked good nor made sense for our powerful characters. (Particularly not the warriors but even non muscular mages had no reason to be underfed)
So i hope they fix up the body model for da4.
