Still playing dai and came across the old tower with Solas near the lake camp in hinterlands. Solas makes a comment about its age and what dreams it holds
At the the back if the ruin there is a mural that looks like the dread wolf art from da4 along with a person wearing a horned headdress. This person appears in other parts of the game
I think there’s more to solas hanging out with spirits in the fade. He’s looking for something or someone. I believe he’s blocked from using his true form. Maybe he did it to himself and that why we see him appearing as though he could be in conflict with this large form or the individual (maybe another old god) did this to him Just maybe it’s related to a certain dwarf who uses casts powerful magic and also appears to be looking for something. Maybe the same thing

If you go by Tevinter Nights then he is now able to use his true form with nobs on owing to having absorbed Mythal: so a wolf/dragon hybrid. I think Solas hangs around with spirits because he genuinely enjoys their company. He spent millennia in Uthenera, with his mind travelling the Fade, so his only companions would have been spirits. It is hardly surprising he developed such strong bonds with some of them or identifies with them so closely, even assuming he didn't before he entered his long sleep. Solas admits that the Dread Wolf persona was something he developed after being given the name by his enemies in order to create fear among his opponents and inspire his followers. As we know, if you have a strong enough will you can cause anything to manifest in the Fade according to how you imagine it. So he no doubt willed into being the Dread Wolf to be the entity that his enemies would encounter if they sought him out through the Fade. The warning by the Evanuris is that he had many forms that he used but the more dangerous one from their perspective outside the Fade was that of a humble wanderer imparting wisdom. This would seem to fit with our experience of him. As yet the Dread Wolf has not been encountered outside the Fade and may be it cannot manifest outside while the Veil is in place. For some reason, though, even when he served Mythal he was known as a wolf, as the statues of him with her always show him as a wolf. This would explain why when he rebelled against the gods he was called the Dread Wolf. However, I have suggested on the Solas thread that may be he was the spy master for Mythal, which is why he acquired the reputation of a trickster. It is also possible that was when he first earned the name Fen'Harel. He only says that it was a name given by his enemies and he probably had plenty of those when in Mythal's service, particularly if he was known to conduct covert (dirty tricks)operations on her behalf. Of course for this to be the explanation you would have to discount the Orlesian human scholars who think the name originally meant rebel rather than dread. I never understood how they would have a better understanding of the elven language than even Morrigan did without the Well, so I think that was just a device used by the writers to introduce the idea that he might have been a rebel, that was then confirmed in Trespasser. This seems disproven by his own words on the matter and when Flemeth addresses him as "Dread Wolf". This could confirm that he was already known by that title whilst still in Mythal's service. It is also possible that if he was bound to Mythal's service in ancient times then this also bound him to being the Dread Wolf. The image in the trailer is probably symbolic of the conflict that Solas has within himself. The Dread Wolf persona that he created to frighten his enemies became more and more part of his own personality and now threatens to overwhelm him.

Just comin' to the topic to dump around on Solas ! I like that theory about him dying at the beginning, as the Dread Wolf shows us its "true form".

As I have suggested elsewhere, it may be that he appears as the Dread Wolf in the Fade and that is a manifestation of how he imagines the Wolf to look in order to be sufficiently terrifying but he only ever appears as Solas does when in the Waking World. It is not a case of him shapeshifting. For Solas to appear as the Dread Wolf in physical form he would essentially have to allow that side of his persona to completely overwhelm him, in order words be possessed by the Dread Wolf. At present, though, to defeat or redeem him you would probably have to enter the Fade and confront the Dread Wolf in his lair.

So there’s no relation with enchantment dwarf and the figure with stag antlers in the mural isn’t him
Sandal has to tie into him in some way. Both at the shattered library at the same time? Sandal has the ability to use magic and eluvians . Reminds me of the character in the Witcher 3 that polymorphed himself to hide from others and the dr from dr who did something similar

I don't know if they will continued to involve Sandal or not but I have to admit the elven gem studded murals in Horror of Hormack sounded a lot like the murals where Sandal was found by Bodhan. He was also bothered by dreams of Flemeth, which seems to be connected with the old elven song found in the codex in the Descent, where it says: "Mythal gives you dreams", and seems to be talking about the dwarves she "liberated" from the titans. I've speculated elsewhere whether the Sha'Brytol could also be connected with what she did in the Deep Roads, as the titan doesn't seem to recognise them as its children, even though they stand guard over it. It would be interesting to discover if a titan recognised Sandal as one of its children in the same way as it did Valta.

Theory(s) When Solas is about to do his hocus pocus stuff, he trips over a rock breaking his neck. Solas gets the Emily Wong treatment, death via twitter
The one theory I will stick with is when he does his whatever, it backfires causing him to be banished, but releases the evanuris for the main character to deal with.
