I’m taking a break next week, but this week I have some bestiary videos for you. Short, because there is not actually much lore behind the omnipresent giant spiders surprisingly.

I always thought that Ghasts were weird - bipeds that use tools and magic but don't seem to have language? And things just got more confusing when the giants arrived in DAI. However, as of Tevinter Nights I suspect the explanation for both is going to turn out to involve Ghilan'nain somehow.
(Giant spiders seem a bit off-brand for her, though, so who knows why they're seemingly the only things that get big when the Fade leaks. If it was a general thing that happened to wildlife, you'd think we'd have seen a giant squirrel or something by now.)

They're are ghasts on the silent plains? Near the town of Solas? We could be being ambushed by ghasts on our way to investigate the town of solas? That's hilarious XD

Don't like spiders. I played Dungeon Seige I and II which had spiders. The map had them crawling out from all sides. The combo of my character's weak level, the audio sound effects and music, all gave me the shivers.
I wish Bio just eliminated spiders, from their games.

Ghasts are an interesting enigma, I think. I feel sorry for them in Thedas - they only ever appeared in the one dlc and seem to have been forgotten or brushed under the carpet. In my pen and paper DA campaign, I intend to introduce them in the Deep Roads as a faction that the PCs can, with some invention, use against encroaching Darkspawn. Funnily enough, they are more like the original Genlocks (in looks, at least) than the newer gorilla-type ones.
Any evidence of Giant Spider worship in Thedas? Perhaps the Ghasts might exalt one. Hmmm...I think I'll have to add that as a plot thread in my own campaign!

The more of it there is, the larger the insect.

There is a ghast in one of the concept arts, in what looks like a Tevinter market, maybe we will see more of them in da4? I wonder why it's for sale? Do they train them as pets/slaves? Sacrifice them for blood magic? Study/experiment with the ones that can do magic?

What we need is bears. More bears. Lots and lots of bears. Bears of all shapes and sizes, great bears, grizzly bears, I don't care as long as there's a bear.

Set them on fire. Let them breathe fire. Give them teleport and stealth abilities. Hafter Woods upgraded. Agreed. If they'd just forgotten about armies, Grey Wardens and all the rest and simply pointed a few of those bears at the Darkspawn there would be no such thing as Blights, and the Deep Roads would be safe enough for children to play in.

Ghasts have always reminded me shrieks, they even have shamans and use human remnants. Maybe they are a primitive form of darkspawn.
