Microsoft buying Bethesda and Zenimax for $7.5bnThat's right. Fallout and Elder Scrolls will now be in the hands of MS. I don't know what that means. I do know there was a drastic shift between Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. That was also when it went from MS to EA.

I do know there was a drastic shift between Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. That was also when it went from MS to EA. Yep, it's pretty big that MS bought Bethesda/Zenimax. Mainly because it calls into questions wether future titles like TES6 will still come for playstation (probably not). Quite the coup that MS pulled there. I am a PC gamer, so I don't really care but it is a big deal for sure.
As for what it will do to the studios themselves, I hope not too much. I think it's best if stdios can maintain their individual identity, so I hope MS leaves them alone for the most part and maybe just gives them some financial support for big projects.
But there are two other interesting aspects I want to point out:
1. Bethesda has usually - with all their engines - stuck to open source APIs (like openGL or now Vulkan). Will MS force them to go to DirectX (since it is their own API). In general, will MS force Bethesda to finally give up on their age old Creation Engine and if so, when? Would Starfield and TES6 already be affected by this?
2. Obsidian people have repeatedly stated that they would like to make another Fallout spinoff (they made New Vegas). Now that both Obsidian and Bethesda (and thus the Fallout franchise) are under MS, will they finally be able to do so?
Just on a side note, BioWare was never part of MS and and neither they nor the ME brand changed from MS to EA. BW was an independent studio when they made ME1. Microsoft was just the publisher for that particular game. So it's not really that comparable to MS outright owning Bethesda now.

I went from excited, to deflated in under 5 minutes reading the news. excited "oh microsoft" deflation "xbox team." siigh. Last thing I want is console exclusives on any ip from that set of developer studios... eta: I can handle microsoft exclusives (via microsoft store) if it gets new games out of console locked obviously xD
I think a fallout New Vegas 2 is very possible.
