So here's a dilemma. Three games I'd usually be delighted to see dropping in any year, are dropping within three weeks of each other. (in my case, my 3 anticipated games are: Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077). My question to you is (and of course your game launches may differ) what do you do when games drop on top of each other? Can you manage to see a game through properly without rushing before you start the next, or do you cave in and start playing concurrently to the detriment of the games?

I have kinda the same problem with the same three games. I already decided to put off Watch Dogs Legion until next year. But AC:Valhalla I definitely want to try on release and I am afraid, when Cyberpunk drops, I'll switch to that for quite a while. I guess I'll finish Cyberpunk, then go back to Valhalla, finish that and then get Watch Dogs (if it's good). By the time all of this is done, it's probably March 2021 or something. Since I also meet up with some German friends once a week and we record a very small little podcast together, where we just chat about games and since we are all hyped about Cyberpunk, there is really no way I am not going to play this right at release. So no choice there really.
In more general terms, if I buy a game at close to full price, I usually finish it before doing anything else. I don't think I ever didn't finish a game I got close to release. However, I have heaps and heaps of games which I got in sales which I never finished (some of which I really want to go back to, others, I am happy to just abandon).

Can you manage to see a game through properly without rushing before you start the next, or do you cave in and start playing concurrently to the detriment of the games? GenerallyI do try to finish games befoer starting on new ones regardless of when they release but it also depends on how much I'm enjoying playing them. For example Avengers I've really enjoyed playing it. I've only got about 2 more quests to do minus DLC's which I know are coming eventually to the game with new characters and whatever. Admittedly I have kind of put it on hold partly because the new Fifa's about to launch and I think I need to spend some more time levelling up the other characters due to the fact I don' t think they're high enough to handle the last 2 missions. Especially given one of the quests requires me to fight a boss level enemy and you do need your team to be in top form when facing boss fights in this game I find. Thankfully after Fifa 21 there isn't really anything that is grabbing my attention Other than Halo 4 coming to the MCC that is but I've already bought that I'm just waiting for 4 befoer I start playing the MCC.

One at a time, through to completion. Unless I find it to be a disappointment, of course, then I'd move on to second in line and come back to first later to see if patches had improved it.

I can bounce between multiple games most often. Now if a game really draws me in. Then I will focus on that game

I'm in a similar boat right now thoough not really 'as compacted' as yours. Avengers, Sqaudrons, and Vahalla is coming out within a couple of months of one another and USUALLY I aam really only comfortable getting only like one game for black friday or something, and my wife is even more uncomfortable about such things then I am (spoiler alert I'm probably getting two this year). But for me the general theory of mine is that I can be perfectly pattient and wait and do a 'priority' list. I mean as much as I want to throw money into certain cages so they keep on making games I like or stay in business sometimes one game just over rides another (or in the case of some of the above I may buy them and wait)....because I tend to focus onone story based RPG big game at a time. Complicating this further this is bumping up against a new console generation and while I do not intend to get a PS5 for awhile...for reasons...one or more of these games might just fall through the cracks because I will not want to get them with that juicy sword of damocles hovering over my head. Anyways that is the theory though because I also like hanging to a 'schedule' of games which is probably...quite weird of me...and since I picked up Greedfall on sale this gives me very little time to clear up my schedule before these 1 or 2 games drop and I get them at the end of November. Namely I wanted to finish up my second PT of Breakpoint, play Greedfall, and then do a canon PT of Odyssey before Vahalla comes out (probably my highest priority game right now) and let me tell you I was starting to get VERY impatient at the amount of times I was dying with Breakpoint. . One of the reasons I amkeeping Greedfall on easy.

I usually have two games on the go. One will be slower, typically turn-based or RTwP, role-playing or strategy. The second will be faster, more action based like a shooter or MMORPG.
For instance, I'm playing Total War: Warhammer 2 and Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer lately. Before that was Endless Legend and Borderlands 1/2. (Haven't gotten 3 yet.)
I'm pretty dead to Hype now and don't buy games when they release except under very specific circumstances.

In cases like that I buy them one at a time, when i finish one i move onto the next. Sometimes I get lucky and the last one has dropped in price or was patched by the time I get to it.

I usually stick with one game. I switch when I had enough of it. Story games I tend to finish at least once. If there is multiple games I'm interested I make a priority - there is only so much time to spend on a game. I can always buy the others at reduced price / better pachted state and have no downside.

I am single mindedly on one SP game at a time, but MP games I can play many and usually do play during the day.
Example: Finished MEA PT #4 but in the meantime I played MEAMP, DAIMP and Anthem (+ other MP's).

I'll race through all 3, feel it all out, and when the excitement has worn off, work my way through it. Every.single.part. Usually starting with the one I liked most.
Although...me actually finishing a game is a rare occurrence.

I'm a one-story-at-a-time person. If it's any good, I don't want distractions and I spend time mulling over lore a,d character interactions. I don't really play games that don't tell me a story so that means one at a time until I finish or it bores or frustrates me enough to drop it entirely. Mostly, I finish because I have to know what happens, even if it's a cluster of nonsense like Code Vein.

Eh, I'm not that invested in trying to finish games I start anymore. To this day I have still never completed the main campaigns for *any* Fallout or Elder Scrolls game. I've also started Witcher 3 several times, but never even got to the second half. And I barely lasted a few hours into RDR2. I'm actually going out today to trade in a bunch of crap that I mostly don't care to finish, lol.
In most other cases of large, open-world-type games I get sick of side crap and end up making a mad dash for the end (every AC since Black Flag), or I set a goal I want to accomplish before finishing (eg, do every shrine in BOTW base game). I cannot imagine being the kind of person who tries to 100% anything anymore.
For a game to make me want to invest in doing all or even most of its side content, it needs to be a really original and compelling world that I want to know more about (Horizon Zero Dawn, Hollow Knight), or there need to be significant rewards for doing it (Hollow Knight again, FFX-2, Persona 5).
Basically, life's too short for bad games.

I'm not interested in any of these games. I will probably, eventually, play Cyberpunk, when the new hardware releases and the market has some stock, but it's not a day 1 buy. The way I see it, eh, probably June-July.

Mostly, I finish because I have to know what happens, even if it's a cluster of nonsense like Code Vein. Same. I have an obsessive streak, I HAVE to see a story through. And the best kind draws me in so much that it's all I think about. Book or game or TV show. It needs to be a release I've been waiting for for years to make me consider putting another game on hold. Even then I'll most likely finish it first since I don't care about getting new games on release. I can wait weeks or months for patches. I waited 2 years for FO4's DLC to get released in full before buying it. Sometimes I get bored with the gameplay loop and will not finish it (Assassin's Creed) OR I lose interest after a longish break (vacation trip or a TV show marathon). But those are rare cases.

When a game releases has very little impact on when I actually get around to playing it. I also tend to have a very limited set of things that I feel any kind of NEED to get right away. It might actually be years before I get around to playing something. After that, there is probably a 20:1 ratio of games I've played, vs games I've actually finished. The list of unfinished games includes ones that I've put hundreds of hours into and had a great time playing, but I just never actually "finished the game". All in all, I'm probably not the target audience for this thread

It's why I think I played Avengers the moment I could as I was really quiet excited for tha tgame yet whilst I like the look of games like AC Oddysy and Horizon Zero Dawn an dthe yae rsitting i nmy library I haven't actually got round to playing them yet. It' slikely I will soon thoug hbut I'm kind of putting it off atm because I don't know how much access I'll have to my computer whilst m ybathroom is being done and I don't think I want obe in the middle of games like them when I know I might have to abandon it.

It really depends on the game. I need to be thoroughly enthralled somehow for a game to consume me enough to get all of my attention all the way to completion. Over these past few years, the only games that have managed to get my attention like this have been the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games, and Horizon Zero Dawn.

It's very rare that several games I really, really want to play are being released too close to each other to finish one before the next comes out. Right now there's only one big release I'm looking forward to before the year is over, everything else can get in line behind that.
To me this dilemma happens the other way around. I start playing a game that I really looked forward to but then it's not quite as good as I expected and I find myself going back to older games or something new and unexpected and shiny pops up and distracts me.
The most recent case is Horizon Zero Dawn. Really good game, but now I'm 50 hours in I'm getting tired of machines everywhere so I play it only in small doses and find myself going back to Mordheim: City of the Damned (old) and Hades (new). As it is, I spend way more time thinking about how to build up my undead war band in Mordheim than about Horizon Zero Dawn's story.

I'll play in the order the games dropped. If the story, characters, gameplay isn't gripping me, I'll switch to another and probably would return to the game I dropped at a later date. But sometimes, I'll just give up when I find the going tedious / dull. As with the cases of DOS DE and AC Origins in the last couple of months. It's unlikely I'll try to finish them.

But tbh I'v ebeen alternating beteen th e2 depending on m ymood as I've found Avengers does requier a lot of patience if you'er playing i tsolo because it does requir a lot of grinding and repeating a lo tof levels to level everybody up. I d oenjo yit it's just i tcan get a bi ttoo repetitive at times t othe point wher eI feel in need of a break. Hence the facct I have been alternatin gbetween Avengres and other games atm.As I've been playing Fifa and NFS Payback as well which I got earlier in the year in an Origin sale.

In general I keep to one game at a time. I could very well buy several but i won't know before hand which one will be able to keep my attention. and so, even though really fun and exciting games I haven't "finished" TW3, TCTD2 or AC:Od. Right now I'm trying to get into Pillars of eternity for the fourth time because I'm kind of between games. The new AC might break the spell but on the other hand I fired up Breakpoint for the first time on months.

Valhalla is the only one I'm going to be playing as I just don't do first person, so Cyberpunk is out.
As far finishing games before moving on. If it's SP with an ending and I like it, I'll finish it before I move on to something else.
Earlier this year they had this huge sale on greenmangaming, I got Full versions of Assassin's Creed Odessy, Dragon Quest XI and Anno 1800 all at once. I played the entirety of Odessy before I touched either of the other two. Then I played a lot of Anno 1800 before I moved on to Dragon Quest, which I played the entirety of before playing anything else. All three games were great by the way, recommend every single one. Can't believe I got all that enjoyment out of less than $50.
On the other hand something like Final Fantasy XIV, I'll put down to play something else, finish that game and then go back to see what's going on in FF.

Well we won't have to worry about it with Cyberpunk now 😁 I can likely get Valhalla out before Cyberpunks December launch (unless CD RED pulls out yet another delay 👍).
Watchdogs won't be a problem for me as I have no interest in that at all. But for those interested in the 3, at least now it's just 2 launching untop each other and not 3.

Yea, the Cyberpunk delay came in rather handy for me. Although I actually almost hope for another delay as I won't have time to playover Christmas and thus I now have to wait until end of January/early February to play it anyway. Hope I can avoid spoilers!
(Actually, I really hope they will not delay it again as that would just drag out the crunch for the people who work on the game even more. I hope they get to go into the Christmas holidays knowing that they pulled it off.)
