Okay, so my 24" screen is dying and needs replacement. I'm shopping around for a new one, maybe make the jump to a 32" and I'm finding myself wondering what's with these curved screens I'm seeing? Are they worth it?
What's a good reliable brand for an affordable monitor? Doesn't have to be a dedicated gaming monitor.

My vote is on BenQ or Samsung. My previous monitor was the S27D850T from Samsung, it was a 'business grade' monitor with a resolution of 1440p, response time of 4ms and a 60hz refresh rate. It was a PLS Panel (samsung's own proprietary version of IPS). It is about seven years old and still works great, but I decided to upgrade to 4K. I've had several Samsung monitors over the years and they have all been very good quality.
Other more affordable brands that have come a long ways over the last five to ten years include are ViewSonic and Philips. HP also makes some very nice monitors especially in the higher price bracket (such as their Dream Colour line-up). Although I don't personally like ASUS, I know that many people really like a lot of their products and their monitors (especially their gaming monitors) are routinely at the top of any Review of the Year's Best. Nice thing about ASUS though is they offer a wide variety of products and price ranges. Everything from basics starting around 149.99 CAD to 2000.00 for a 32" 4K Gaming monitor with all the fancy bells and whistles.
It would be more helpful to make suggestions if you first did some research into asking yourself the question "what exactly am I going to use this for? Specifically for Gaming? Photo Editing/CAD/Graphic Design etc.? General Use/All Purpose.....A bit of Everything?" Next: "What are my MUST HAVEs vs. my Would Be Nice TO Have" ?"
Are the "Nice To Have's " anything you could take or leave and/or live without? (G-sync, for example for me was something that would be nice to have...it would be cool, but if I couldn't get it or if it didn't work properly, I wouldn't complain. I could live without it.)
For example: Must Have: 32" LED based IPS Panel
Must Have: Make of good quality and craftsmanship
Nice to Have (Bonus): 120hz+ Refresh Rate, 2 ms Response Time, 4K Resolution, Wide Colour Gamut
Nice To Have (Could Live Without): G-Sync/Free Sync
Once you have some of those questions in mind and given it all some thought, I would be happy to come back and give you suggestions of specific brands that are good in each category that meet your criteria.
Hope this helps!

Thanks I ultimately went with an ACER ED3 Series 27" monitor. It's the first curved monitor I've ever used.
Glad I didn't go bigger, as an upgrade from a 24 to 27-inch is already substantia;!

I don't know much about 32" monitors or larger. The only one that I know is the more recent Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75T. That's a 32-inch 1440p 240hz curved VA montior with 1ms grey-to-grey response time and it is G-Sync compatible. It is a very popular option among gamers but it is bit pricey at $800 USD MSRP. You should definitely read the linked review if you're interested. If you are fine with something smaller, I can recommend the LG 27GL850 (or the slightly cheaper 27GN850). I've been using the 27GL850 for about ten months at this point. It is a 27-inch 1440p 144hz flat IPS monitor with 1ms grey-to-grey response time and it is also G-Sync compatible. It is priced at a much reasonable $500. (The 27GN850 is the exact same panel but without the built-in USB 3.0 hub and it's also about $70 cheaper.) It is a fast and accurate IPS panel. These are the result I got after calibration. I highly recommend it.

Not a review/recommendation video but it explains monitor types/features/jargon.

I'm in a similiar situation just now and I'm thinking more along the lines of getting a reasonable stop gap monitor at the moment and save my cash for buying something more capable next year. Yeah I'll definitely hold off on buying anything on the pricier end of the market just now and splash out on something more advanced in 2021. Anyway between lack of supply, stock scarcity and the current lockdown in the UK it's a bit pointless looking at the moment. Samsung stock seems to be available but finding other brands (at least newer models) is more difficult.

What the hell I thought, fuck it, this lockdown is really starting to get to me and the pubs are all closed, I need something to cheer myself up, it's a shame to waste all those unused drinking tokens. So about half an hour ago I went to Amazon and bought the 32" Samsung Odyssey G7. Managed to get it in the sale for £499.99 GBP, usually retails at £629. I feel better already!

So about half an hour ago I went to Amazon and bought the 32" Samsung Odyssey G7. Managed to get it in the sale for £499.99 GBP, usually retails at £629. I feel better already! Nice....I know the feeling, it feels good to have gooten such a good deal. Like my previous monitor (it's also from Samsung) It was New Year's 2014 (if I remember correctly). I had previously been using a 24 inch 1080p monitor but had become dissatisfied with the performance and also found after a while that it bothered my eyes, so I wanted something bigger with a higher resolution. We searched and searched and I wasn't content with anything that had come up, I was prepared to leave it for a while....when my dad calls me downstairs and says "take a look at this" It was the S27D850T from Samsung. A 27" PLS LED monitor with a 4 ms response time,a 60hz refresh rate, a resolution of 2560x1440. It was a brand new mondel that had just released. It normally retailed for 699.99 (CAD) but it was on sale for 449.99. I looked at the specs and thought "this is exactly what I want. I don't want 4K, it's too expensive and the visuals/performance ratio isn't quite there yet. I think 1440p is the sweet spot." And when I saw the regular price and then the sale price (and it was one of these pop-up ads that offer a special price that you only get if you click the add....you don't even find ont he actual website.) So I clicked it and decided that was what I wanted. I thought I couldn't pass up that kind of deal. I still have that monitor, it's still in perfect working order but it is all boxed up because I am looking to sell it along with my GTX 1080 FTW2..... Any how, I'm glad you're happy and got a good deal.

I'm certainly not ready or willing to shell out big money to upgrade my whole system just to get 4K. Probably a whole lot cheaper and economical to just buy one of the new consoles and use the 4K living room tv if I want to play in 4K at the moment. Cheers.
