I’ve noticed in dai there really isn’t any random encounters
Animals/enemies spawn in certain points and sometimes disappear (literally a whole bad guy camps little in hinterlands will disappear when you get close (sometimes happens near grandfather quest) but there is no respawning of certain enemies and certain outside enemies don’t respawn at all (the carta dwarves near waterfall in hinterlands)

I’ve noticed in dai there really isn’t any random encounters I'm not sure what you mean by random because I certainly had enough bears appearing out of nowhere to last me a life time in the Hinterlands (I could avoid them on the whole if I wished on the Storm Coast) and spiders and other critters in the Hissing Wastes appearing not only just as companions began conversations (very annoying when I'd waited so long for someone to speak) but at the same time as another group attacked as well. I think it does depend on which map you are in and where you are on that map but just how random do you want them to be?

Well yes bears appear in hinterlands bu the same bears don’t appear in empties and only larger bears appear in other areas. That’s just the engine piping in enemies or the 2 soldiers with treasure chest
Random for me would be a carta patrol (they appear during the assassin quest)
Traveling merchants
1 random wolf etc etc

They have semi-random encounters. For example, you can run into different enemy types in the Hinterlands depending on whether it's early in the game or late in the game. But all within constrained areas where they could appear.

Yeah, I don't have any idea what distinction the OP is trying to draw here either.

wrong forum, this is the dragon age 4 forum, you want inquisition.
anyway, between random patrol, and various animals and giants the only thing not random enemy wise is high dragons, which i am thankful for.

The question is on the engine not dai but dai is the only game on the engine so that is why I’m using it as an example
100% of demon rifts are exactly the same. It’s the same amount and types of demons every time
It’s 3 wolves every time you approach the hinterlands farm
It’s bears constantly spamming in hafters woods. Spiders constantly spamming in that cave in storm coast
In Skyrim when approaching the witch house on the outside of river wood the engine gives you multiple random encounters
Sometimes it’s A assassin of various races A horse with a dead body next to it with a note 3 bad guys pretending to be soldiers A fire elemental creature Wizards attacking wizards A crazy woman A nord traveler (can’t think of his name)
This is one spot where it’s random and this doesn’t exist in dai. Is it the engine or a choice by developers?

This is one spot where it’s random and this doesn’t exist in dai. Is it the engine or a choice by developers? Choice by developers. The engine is just being told to spawn entities and move them at random or on a predefined path or have them wander a designated area. Deciding what entities are spawned when and how and where they move is up to the developers. The engine is just following orders

It probably can, but it doesn't seem like BioWare wants to. And there'd be little/no point, since they cap the characters at like level 25 or something anyway.

They have semi-random encounters. For example, you can run into different enemy types in the Hinterlands depending on whether it's early in the game or late in the game. But all within constrained areas where they could appear. Yeah ther aer some semti random events as even in MEA sometimes you can run int oan Eiroch/fiend whilst battling the exiles on Kadara for example and sometimes you'll only see the exiles s oit's kind of random to a point in both DAI and MEA. Some thing's are scripted others are randomised and some are a little of both. For example in DAI I have had on occasion a druffalo or 2 get involved when rtying t otake down the Northern Hunter dragon in Crestwood in turn at times screwing tha tfight up for me. I've even hada red templa ror 2 interfere with me when trying to take down the Hinterlands dragon as well. Doesn't always happen but it's one of those random things tha tcan an ddo happen fromm time to time in various playthroughs. I find i tkind of cool tha tthings like that exist as it does help mix things up.
