This is a very spicy hot take, my dude. And calling Andromeda's characters: "High School characters" isn't? I’d actually say it’s quite cold... we’ve heard that nonsensical drivel for 3 years now. Wish the haters and memers would get new material.

And calling Andromeda's characters: "High School characters" isn't? They do feel like they are out of a YA novel. Or, better put, some 40 year olds' idea of what YAs sound like.

I mean if you want to go about Ashley "racist" views, Grunt's immaturity, Jack's mental instability as "mature" go ahead I guess. I disagree, the fact that Jack can be cured by the almighty power of the penis just shows the quality maturity in the writing. Interesting take.

But true, given her character growth is locked behind romance options. It makes sense, since a lot of her problems stem from abuse and never knowing affection Funnily enough, therapists counselling victims of abuse don't tend to recommend rushing into relationships as a form of treatment. In fact, a history of abuse and neglect makes finding and maintaining healthy relationships harder. You complain about characters in ME:A sounding like they're out of a "YA novel" (a genre you've previously confessed to me that you don't engage with and know nothing about), but you have a really strange idea of what "makes sense" for characters who are supposedly more like "real adults". Getting the trauma banged out of you is a ridiculous fantasy that only exists in the minds of the people who read and write "Omegaverse" fanfic and the trashy dimestore novels that are sold exclusively in newsagents and Kmart.

Funnily enough, therapists counselling victims of abuse don't tend to recommend rushing into relationships as a form of treatment No. In fact, the person needs to go through a lot of help, beforehand, in order to be able to function in a relationship. In the game, however, a lot of time passes between Jack's recruitment and the attack on the Reaper base. In the meantime, Jack has received support and has had time to bond with the team she is in, facing a lot of her fears and prejudices. Kelly on the ship works as a psychologist, on top of that and Zero can also get medical care, both physical and mental, through Chakwas. As a doctor who has served on many military ships, I assume it goes without saying that Chakwas knows at least a little about the mental stress of soldiers and some modicum of mental health knowledge. We also know that Jack has talked to Kelly, without or presence, Kelly tells us so a few times that Jack wants to talk to us, if we bother talking to Kelly, as she talks about things on the minds of all the crew. So during this voyage of building relationships, building trust, building loyalty and affording her a secure environment, as secure as a SM can be, on the ship, shielded from external factors, like malevolent Cerberus cells intent on recapturing her, for example, after all that time, the final barrier Jack would need to overcome is that of a romantic relationship. Which is not something Jack is intimately familiar with, but seeing as it might be her last and only chance to pursuit it, comes so emotionally heart wrenching for her. It is the culmination of an on-screen/off-screen process for her that takes the entire game to reach, that requires taking down barriers, persistence, personal growth, bearing yourself, guilt, fear of failure and it all hinges on winning a very difficult uphill battle, to prove her prejudices and misconceptions wrong. It's something that Jack admits herself. " You know what it's like... to think you're alone and find out you're not?" It's not something that happens in the first 5 minutes of you meeting her. It is a long and arduous process and it involves fixing a virtually insurmountable number of issues with her, from learning to operate as part of a unit, to her own individual problems, a process that most would think is not even worth the effort and, under the circumstances, I'd think rightfully so. I think that to oversimplify it to "healing dick" is such a disservice to her arc and her romance.

Not sure about the mental parts though. But Kelly? Really? She's a Cerberus mole to spy on the Commander. I wouldn't count anything on her bogus CV. She's also dead by the end of ME2 so wouldn't have had much time to mess up any psychos even further.

Certainly not enough to heal a lifetime of extreme trauma.
