I remember back in the late 2000s and early 2010s there was not one single show on TV with space travel in it! Did BSG's ending cause TV viewers to lose interest in space? Now this year there has been loads of astronaut shows, sci fi space adventures, and even documentaries.
Not even kid TV is safe from the space craze!
even pop music
Some people are using the power of their imagination and the internet to create their own space adventures.
Have things gotten so bad that people are thinking of leaving the planet? Has Elon Musk inspired us to dream of the future again?

Pop culture runs on cycles. This applies especially to television. That being said, there is a large demand for fresh content. There is a lot of raw space footage out there, so factual space shows are cheap to make. Add to that the real decline in the cost of special effects and fictional space programs aren't especially expensive to make.

The same reason orange is the new blue. While it just so happens to be my favorite shade of blue (that in-between tertiary color of blue-cyan on the color wheel), it was EVERYWHERE in the early 2000's, at least as I could see.
Now everything is orange. Or bronze. Or copper. Or gold.
Recently though, I see it shifting to purple, or magenta, or fuchsia.
I'm not knocking that, just noticing.

Honestly, I'd say it's a refreshing change. At least writers with talent are getting some recognition again...and the documentaries are interesting and educational.

Space is the future! And really, space has been prevalent in media since the space race of the 60's. You just had to know where to look. From Carl Sagan to Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Brian Cox space has always been talked about.

Well, earth is 0.00000000000(add a bunch of more zeroes)00001% of what actually exists in this universe, the entire rest is space. So naturally, that can only be ignored for so long.

Yeah, but 99.99999999999(add a bunch of more nines)99998% of that is literally nothing. And a similar percentage of the something is only marginally more than nothing e.g. Mars is just an oversized wasteland. Space is dreadfully boring when you actually stop to look at it.

From some of the pictures I have seen and I don't if I am seeing things... Yet it looks like to me the Bootes void is expanding... It may be an optical illusion but when dealing with space and the unknown erring on the side of caution is better: No hypotheses' can be proven as of right now though. This guy does a good job of explaining the known ones. And if one of the hypotheses' in the linked video are true... No matter what we discover or encounter out there -ALL galaxies will eventually be swallowed -us with it.

^ Yes, I agree. It's all Elon Musk's fault. SpaceX have had a lot of visually spectacular success lately. And US is sending up serious rockets again after a long pause. And manned rockets. And then a lot of also visually spectacular material, from Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity, have been well edited and shown. And we're possibly on the dawn of something revolutionary, when it comes to moving things to and around in near space: SpaceX Starship. Elon's Mars plans, however, are complete.... And remember, Mars is not a nice place. It's dark, very cold, very radiated, and there's no air, no water, no food. And it's a very long and challenging way home. Nobody could ever make me do the trip. But never mind, with enough financing, maybe we'll get halfway somewhere.
As for other things mentioned, no hypothesis can ever be proven "true", only false. A hypothesis transitions into "fact" after a long time of failed efforts to dispute it, and lack of competing hypotheses. That something is a fact is still no guarantee that it's actually "true", only that it works as expected in our every relation to it, ...sofar. "Truth" doesn't really exist in any other context. "Survival is the arbitrator of truth", is the way Jordan B. Peterson puts it, and he's not even a physicist.
I don't worry about the end of Galaxies or the Universe. I don't think it ever began, and I don't think it will ever end. Even if it did, timeframes are so tremendous that if it ever concerned humanity, humanity would be something very different and possibly able to cope. I mean, if the Universe had a beginning, who created it? What is the underlying framework that holds the span of time and space? There has to be something, an implicit order, that carries the information. See how far we got, suddenly? So I better stop.

There has to be something, an implicit order, that carries the information. See how far we got, suddenly? So I better stop. I'm a space exploration fangirl and a racist* in the true sense (go humanity!). So after a hiatus, this is a very exciting and hopeful time. Going to Mars would be neat, but what we require as a race is a permanent home somewhere other than this planet. It doesn't really matter if it's Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars or elsewhere so long as the Earth being destroyed does not mean the end of our race. I think the resurgence of popular interest is simply the result of similarly minded people making their interest known. That and there is a lot of cool stuff going on right now. *Waiting for a poor reader to take that the wrong way. I'm optimistic about humanity's future and quite pessimistic about my fellow humans' reading comprehension.

Doesn't looking at that make you go wow? Why is this a thing? How did this thing become? Don't you want to get out there and find the answers? Though void or no void, Entropy will bring about the heat death of the universe one way or another xD as we can best surmize at any rate.

When has space ever not been popular? You think SpaceX has something to do with it? No, I think it's Blue Origin. ***WARNING! DERAILMENT!***
I. want. to. see. that. 15km. starship. hop.
Honestly, Musk seems to be turning into the patron saint of batshit ideas that happen to work when actually tried.
And I am underwhelmed by Blue Origin. If (very big if) SpaceX gets the Starship to work, Blue Origin's New Glenn will be obsolete before its first flight. Until they deliver, they're the trust fund kid of the space companies.
I'm happy that Rocket Lab seems to be carving out a niche, though. Pretty smart, with their small, low cost rockets. Need someone to keep SpaceX honest. And Blue Origin ain't gonna do that. The only concern I have is them not getting the recognition to get substantial capital investment, and recognition is honestly the lifeblood of SpaceX. Or they get bought out and gobbled up by some ossified company.
And honestly, I'm happy to see Boeing and Lockheed Martin slowly heading towards the door as far as space is concerned. The whole point of the private sector is to maximize economic efficiency, and their coattail riding for military contracts has dulled their edge in that regard. Still fascinating companies, and have done very good working in the past, and are still doing very good work in other sectors, but in the face of an aggressive competitor they are slowly getting devoured by their complacency. They deliver, but they are too slow, too expensive, and have been for years.
Roscosmos is A) not American and therefore bad B.) Russian and therefore bad C.) Been riding on Soviet era tech for a long ass time. I think they are circling the drain. They've got a lot of experience in space, but none in innovation.
Virgin Galactic seems like a marketing joke. They haven't really delivered either.
But all things considered, I think this is the most exciting time for space since the 1960's. And it's only getting better.
But I think pop culture is becoming obsessed with space because they've run out of alternatives due to coronavirus. It's not like you can party (intelligently). So.. SPACE!
