Hello!
I know most people hare the synthesis ending but for me it was the only one that felt appropriate to pick given what I learned about over the trilogy.
Be warned; I will say “Shepard did” and “Shepard says” This is about the Shepard’s I control, so if something seems off it’s probably just because of a play through difference.
Anyway, it’s looking most likely that destroy is officially the canon ending. Personally I have absolutely no love for it. Shepard is my hero, why would he kill the Geth and EDI when there is a better way?
Well, for me, the next ME is post synthesis. This post will retcon synthesis, but not so much so that it ruins my Shepard’s story.
Shepard spent years learning about AI. Bonding with them like Legion and EDI. He would never sacrifice the innocent Geth rebuilding their home. It’s just not morally acceptable. And destroy risks organics too. Anyone sick and hurting. Shepard doesn’t stand for that and couldn’t forgive it.
What happened though, in my retconned headcanon.
Shepard picked synthesis, merging all synthetic and organic life...in the long run. All this did was spread some nanobots into the air, which organic life will live with and communicate with to get powers similar to SAM (except personal, not using another life form). However this didn’t necessarily affect the first generation. It will take time.
Catalyst did the same thing. Spread its code thin like legion, across all synthetics. However, this powerful upgrade shut down a lot of synthetics. They aren’t dead, only sleeping. They can be reactivated (which will either happen if destroy is retconned and Geth are rebuilt, or not happen but I can imagine it will post game). The initial beam and green eyes is either just retconned; or our first interaction with this new ‘air’ around us and went away.,
Help me build on this if you’d like, tell me what you like.
Please don’t come in with a whole ending debate this isn’t about that. If you’re a destroy fan; you already win, destroy is canon, so please let me have this coping mechanism. Heaven knows Reddit chased me out for trying.

I don't really have a problem having my original run end in synthesis while having the next story have destroy canon. I can do both.

I do! I don’t like the idea of someone killing someone off for being different. Treating Geth like a worthy sacrifice when they have unique personality and individuality, for all intents and purposes a soul? If Shepard really did that, then I hate Shepard. So I’d rather a bad hand waive than just destroy

Destroy and Control are pretty much interchangeable in my opinion when talking a sequel. I already head canon a combination of the two. The problem is if you are homogenizing the endings, what to do about synthesis? Either you ignore it, or handwave/retcon it significantly, which considering it was fairly vague to begin with I guess its doable.
But really, why is it only the endings that rile people up with regards to canon, what about the Genophage or Quarian/Geth arc? Frankly, if I have to listen to another Krogan cry about the Genophage I'll lose it. Just cure them and move the plot forward. Which goes for either galaxy, really.

Frankly, if I have to listen to another Krogan cry about the Genophage I'll lose it. Just cure them and move the plot forward. Which goes for either galaxy, really. Because to me personally, other things okay fine Shepard did it because he didn’t have a choice The ending he had a choice. I can’t accept that he willingly killed his own allies and friends. As well as the sick and the innocent. Even arrival, there was no option and he hated it. Destroy, I can’t fathom him Doing thst and getting called a hero for it. So, for me, Shepard “charted the course” It didn’t happen instantly. The evolution will take thousands of years. The synthetics exist in a “cloud” where they aren’t destroyed but “sleeping”. All their minds wandering freely, feeling emotion, communicating, living in robot heaven. Until Someday, organics evolution is complete, and the Shepherd reunited them. Effectively Shepard ascended synthetics. And charted a course for organics. It’ll happen way after this game. But it’ll happen; that’s how he did it and that’s why he didn’t “kill” his friends. Even if it looks like he just killed, he did something way bigger than that.
