Though I wish there was a way to force GPU and CPU's utilization down though. I do so much multi-tasking and would like to play say ME3 while also converting a video track in Sony Vegas while also editing and converting audio tracks in Audacity and FL Studio. So that way I could do ME3 with 50% CPU & GPU Utilization and GPU 50% Sony Vegas and 50% CPU split between Audacity and FL Studio. Have as of yet to find such a way to do this though... That's gonna be very difficult to do. Even if you have the fastest CPU and GPU, you will experience lag if you're gonna encode a video while playing a game. I know Premiere will only utilize the GPU resource that it needs. Some workloads require more GPU acceleration and some require less, but I'm not sure if there's a reliable way to limit its CPU and GPU usage. Ideally, you'd want your PC to finish rendering and encoding as quickly as it could to save your valuable time. I know ME3 is extremely easy to run on modern hardware, but you're still much better off having a dedicated gaming PC for your games and a dedicated workstation for your video and audio work. That's my recommendation.

True. I am of the validation that better to just to wait till the prices go down.
The LINKUP one he used is the only 4Gen as far as I know that is currently on Amazon is down to $58: However there are generic 4Gen ones that are in the $25-$30 range on Newegg.
Ironic... since was about to say not put all buying options in one basket. Just search on Newegg: "PCIe 4.0 X16 Riser Cable"
Put priced lowest to highest but there is one there. Don't be fooled by the wanna-be's like this: Honestly, the only PCIe 4.0 riser cable that I would trust on Newegg's listing is probably Lian Li's. I don't see any $25 generic cables that are actually certified for PCIe 4.0 and even if you manage to find one, I definitely wouldn't recommend getting it because you just might end up wasting your money. If you truly want to save money, I'd recommend setting your PCIe slot to gen 3 mode instead. That way you could use any good quality PCIe 3.0 riser cable with your video card. There are just too many issues with PCIe 4.0 at the moment and you barely see any performance difference between gen 3 and gen 4 speed.

No problem. The best option I can find for you then is this: Not expensive by any means. NOTE it is not as big as the THOR V2 and doesn't have mesh but it does have grating on the side for 2 120 mm fans that can be screwed in.
Something along those lines, yes. I did some googling, and there doesn't seem to be an ideal solution atm. Every other case out there has that glass side panel, which makes them unsuitable. I have some metal crafting tools, so cutting a panel open and installing a mesh (which I have plenty of) may be the solution. Or just cutting square holes for big fans and fan guards.
But I'm not in a rush and there are other projects in the meantime.

Resizable BAR is now finally supported on Nvidia's 30-series GPUs. Though it is only enabled in 17 games at the moment. First you need to make sure both your mobo and your video card's BIOS support it. Second, you need to have the latest Nvidia driver installed (465.89). Third, you have to boot in UEFI mode with CSM disabled. If you fulfill all these criteria, you may check CPU-Z to see if Resizable BAR is enabled for you. For those of you with an EVGA video card, you may also use Precision X1 to update the VBIOS. It is extremely easy to use. The games that support this feature are: - Assassin's Creed Valhalla
- Battlefield V
- Borderlands 3
- Control
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Death Stranding
- DIRT 5
- F1 2020
- Forza Horizon 4
- Gears 5
- Godfall
- Hitman 2
- Hitman 3
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Metro Exodus
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Watch Dogs Legion
Since most games aren't optimized for Resizable BAR, the performance gain isn't too noticeable most of the time. Nevertheless, it doesn't cost anything so it is basically free performance.

Give it two years and will finally be usuable.
But by then you will need a new graphics card... Good luck with that... I think I will just avoid it and put in this Vega 56 in the system I am building.
Now all I need is the new O.O.S. CPU, new motherboard -still deciding on and 1000+W PSU...

Now all I need is the new O.O.S. CPU, new motherboard -still deciding on and 1000+W PSU...
While they are expensive, retailing for about 399.99 CAD (for the 1000 Watt P2)....I have been using EVGA PSUs for the past eight or nine years and have had amazing success and satisfaction with them. I am currently using the 850 P2 and it is a fantastic unit. Previously in older builds I would use Corsair, I believe the older models I used in Corsair are the older equivalent of what is now called their HX line......But I have found that since Corsair changed how they name their various products in all the different line-ups and categories that, #1 it is confusing and you can unintentionally buy a lesser quality unit than what you want if you don't know what you are looking for or looking at....and secondly, but more importantly I have found that their quality and performance to price ratio was fluctuated substantially in the past ten years or so. In other words, you can pay a good buck for a mid to high level performing PSU and the performance isn't quite up to par in comparison to other brands. So round about 2013 I switched brands from Corsair to EVGA and haven't looked back. I find EVGA to be an excellently performing and quality PSU for the money even if they do run a bit expensive, and with many of the internal workings actually manufactured by Super Flower (in their G 1-3, P2, P3 and Ti series line etc up to the end of 2020) EVGA was widely considered among the very best in quality and performance. However, I have recently learned that as of the end of 2020, early 2021 EVGA has cut ties with Super FLower so at this moment I am not sure who their manufacturing partner is. I would be interested to learn who EVGA has partnered with for 2021, since Super Flower has now been given free rein in North America to produce their own PSUs. If any knows or can find this out, let me know.

Decided on this PSU unit: Now waiting till next month for the next part.
Speaking of which heard something about some sort of Partnership between Seasonic and EVGA but can't find the article now so take this hearsay rumor with a grain of salt.

The PSU is a good choice though.

Seasonic makes, reportedly, the absolutely best of the best (many PC sites and publications like CPU Magazine, Maximum PC etc regard it as the absolute #1 brand)...and I just learned yesterday that they are the manufacturing partner for Corsair in their high end units. But from what I know the least expensive model from Seasonic starts at 300.00 CAD so I have never been able to afford them. That would be interesting if Seasonic partnered with EVGA, though I know for sure they are partnered with Corsair www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-ax1000-80-plus-titanium,5966-6.html This link is an example of evidence of their partnership, for their top end models at least.

20 fans?? You are going to need fans to keep those fans cool! The PSU is a good choice though. Well... Here is the breakdown: CPU: 3 Fans on the CPU -you know: In the Push->Pull->Pull formation.
THEN another one on top of the Heatsink in horizontal position blowing down. Why?
Well there is a trick I found that if you cool the ends of the heat pipes the temps come down quicker and faster. Has led to this FX system literally stalling because my CPU is coming down to 9*C/8*C Thought it was a bad drive or something till I forced more work out of the CPU and it worked fine. Yep I managed 8*C on air =albeit that was at Christmas time when it was 15*F outside. GPU: 2/3 Fans on the GPU -removing stock and putting 3000RPM noctua's on. Case:
3 INTAKE Exhaust fans -going to place them behind the back of the system and zip-tie them there: 3 Top intake fans 3 front intake fans
THE SIDE PANEL WILL BE Exhaust fans -3. The 4th spot for a 120 will be the one horizontal of the CPU and if it doesn't fit will cut a hole in side panel. Oh BTW I went for the Roswill THOR V2 Black Edition:

Looks like a very nice case; never heard of CPU fans on a GPU though I know you can get special cooling units for things like Memory and GPUs. That case looks to be the same internal size as the old ANTEC 900 series. Looks nice ont he outside, but all the drive bays and framing cut into your 'workable space'. It's manageable and you can make it work, but it can be awkward and uncomfortable to work on especially when you get into larger components like 12 to 13 inch long GPUs and Extended ATX Motherboards.....and if you're like me, some of the finer wiring (such as fan headers) can be very delicate the less space you have to work with. I have terrible fine-motor control, so the pins of the fan headers always stress me out. I am always worried that I'll put too much pressure on them or come at them from even slightly the wrong angle and then bend or break them.....so when it came to wiring the headers, I would always ask my dad to do it. I would do everything else, then he would wire the headers.
For that reason after fiddling around witht he EVO XB cube (loved that everything was flat, no stress on any components) but it had very limited functional, workable space and it wasn't great for air flow/exhaust. Used it for maybe two or three years, then bought the H500M that I am presently using (and loving for every reason) though I do sometimes miss having a 5.25 inch drive bay for a BD Writer/Rom. Other than that, the H500M has been the very best case I have ever owned and certainly the most expensive. But the workable space is amazing, incredibly easy to work on--tons of room and options....And the cooling is top-notch.

I'm digging the build all right. Replacing the GPU fans gets my approval; stock fans are crap.
Just thought that 20 fans means maybe ~40W of heat, and that's all day everyday. Admitted, that's not much compared to what the rig produces under load.

The stock fans used to be small, high rpm fans that sounded like circular saws. And they usually failed quickly. Luckily you can replace most GPU fans with a 80mm case fan.

I wanted a cube case too and found the Core X9 from Thermaltake:
Since I wanted the motherboard to lie flat. Due to all that weight this build will have in it.
However the model was discontinured so was forced to get the Thor v2. SAY! That is an idea: I can just lay the Thor V2 on its side and presto!
There I got my horizontal motherboard... though not a cube case.

I'm digging the build all right. Replacing the GPU fans gets my approval; stock fans are crap.
Just thought that 20 fans means maybe ~40W of heat, and that's all day everyday. Admitted, that's not much compared to what the rig produces under load. If a closed system yes I agree.
Also my bad at leaving the bottom out as exhaust.
So here is my theorized fans path: The idea is to create a vortex with the central spire of air coming into the side of the system. You know what nature has already provided:

Other than that, the H500M h as been the very best case I have ever owned and certainly the most expensive. But the workable space is amazing, incredibly easy to work on--tons of room and options....And the cooling is top-notch. That is what these are for:
I wanted a cube case too and found the Core X9 from Thermaltake:
Since I wanted the motherboard to lie flat. Due to all that weight this build will have in it.
However the model was discontinured so was forced to get the Thor v2. SAY! That is an idea: I can just lay the Thor V2 on its side and presto!
There I got my horizontal motherboard... though not a cube case.
When you were considering the cube cases....Did you have a chance to look at the HAF XB EVO from Cooler Master? It has its drawbacks, as I mentioned, sure....But that could have been an option if your heart was set on that formfactor.

Lacks the vertical space for the Noctua D15 and the horizontal fan above without scraping the metal of the case.

Lacks the vertical space for the Noctua D15 and the horizontal fan above without scraping the metal of the case. There was a top-mounted 200mm fan on the lid, or atleast the option for one with mounting holes.....But I do agree with you that it is a very compact case and lacks space and size. This also contributed to a lack of good air flow into and out of the case. But the biggest pitfall for me was the utter lack of good cable management. Everything had to be stuffed into the very bottom of the case, below the motherboard tray, which also added problems. I liked it mainly because everything lay flat and there was no stress on, say, the GPU or GPU mounts for example. But now with my H500M, because of a GPU support arm on the outside edge of the MB tray, there is virtually zero sag, lag, hanging, tension or stress on the GPU and motherboard socket. Plus it has amazing workable space and incredible cooling with 2x200 mm fans in front a 140 ont he back and 3x 140 mm on the top. Downside if there was any.....With all the tempered glass, it weighs an absolute ton with everything inside.

Unless you want to weight lift then you could use as barbels. For me though I think I will take the GPU issue out of the equation and indeed use a riser cable. 4.0 should be settled by the time I get everything built. I think I will put the card outside the system so it doesn't add heat to the system and gets free air.
May not work but gonna try when I get the system built.

You know what nature has already provided: I have some experience in air flow design, and would like to comment this. Since air is compressible, pressure does not always guarantee flow. You have more intakes than exhausts, which may or may not work. If you have calculated that the fans are in balance, ie their cfm ratings are equal, this may not be an issue. If you have issues however, increase exhaust; that seems to usually work best. The one intake fan on the cover may be useless, because the other three fans cause a strong negative pressure, causing the fresh air to go straight out.

Oh, my case is not a hassle, don't get me wrong. It's just heavy. Re: Using a riser cable, I thought you might find this interesting hardwarecanucks.com/video-cards/theres-a-problem-with-riser-cables/ A hassle if it tumbles down a flight 40+ stairs and has an encounter with a granite corner of the stairs landing . That does damage/shatter the door on the way down.
Well considering this build is going to be stuck with a Vega 56 -more on that later. I don't think it will be an issue. Though if it is...
I know the things to check:
Checking the connection between Monitor and GPU in slot with no riser and make sure they ARE CONNECTED and work. Check the riser cables and the video cable types: HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort, and VGA Ect.
Also check all the cables rating versions and shielding information.
Then trying all the different combinations. Starting with HDMI -since so far that has caused the least headaches or repair the most times here -no matter its rating.
Where DP is so far been giving us the most trouble here at this repair site -no matter its rating .
THAT SAID... Till the GPU crisis abates -no way I am shilling out $1000 above MSRP!

What would be your guide to getting the vortex effect? Should I just revert all exhaust to intake and make all door fans exhaust?
I doubt the following would give the vortex effect: Remove the side panel and put 25 fans daisy chained -pushing down and gravity exhaust it or let one fan at each corner exhaust it. I don't see how that second possibility would ever work. If you can figure this out I will call you the Professor of Air...
Ok that doesn't sound near as good as I thought it would -sorry.
I have 3 Noctua 3000 RPM industrial fans for CPU heat-sink -D15.
I am in between the other fans at the moment -still have to get the rest of them.

That is a very good question and it got me thinking. A vortex is something you usually try to avoid, because it stops the air flow, creates noise and gathers dust. Normally you try to keep the flow as laminar as possible. Maybe something like this:
And put all the exhaust fans on the door. But I doubt even that would work in the end, as there is too much stuff in the way to create a vortex. A round case might be a solution.
But this is a much better idea and that's what I would do. It should work okay, as long as the intake and exhaust are in balance.

Yeah I just was thinking it could also rip all the capacitors right out of the motherboard... Take it to shop and they ask how a tornado hit the inside of the case... Though may still be able to apply it in the exhaust...
What you think:
