I thought of an idea for a thread.... You've been accepted by ShadyMusk Inc in association with NASA, sponsored by Starbucks and Mountain Dew, to fly as an astronaut on the very first mission to Mars! Yay! It'll take 2 years. One year there, one year back, and half an hour in the middle of the journey, on the red planet, for you to take a selfie. You have been given a personal computer in your cabin. Regulations stipulate there'll be a lot of downtime to ward off fatigue, so NASA has given you a little section of the hard drive to store some video games. For the sake of ease (and because gigabytes are hard) we'll say the database can hold 20 points worth of games. NASA will use their clout to ensure any game from any system can be played, with appropriate controllers provided. 1 point would be the equivalent value of a tiny indie game, like Papers Please or Braid 2 points would be a slightly larger small game, like The Witness or Undertale 3 points would be medium, like the size of Portal or Bioshock Infinite 4 for a AAA game, like Assassin's Creed or Skyrim 5 points would be for massive game, like an MMORPG You can have any mix of games as long as they don't exceed 20 points. There'll be no updates, DLCs, bug fixes, or downloads of any kind, so what you have on that drive as you lift off from Earth is what you have to play for the next 2 years. What do you pick?
My list - - Firstly, for 5 points, I'd take World of Warcraft. Blizzard are very impressed with my astronautiness, so have agreed to make a copy of the entirety of WOW for me to be played single player. Every dungeon, instance etc is doable in SP. I haven't played for a decade so everything after Cataclysm would be new, and I think going thru the old content would be a nostagliafest. - Then, for 4 points, Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut. DE:HR is one of my all time favourite games, I've played full on combat and hard mode pacifist, and I'd enjoy doing the whole thing again. It's a warm comforting gaming blanket. I've never played the DC so it would add something new. - 3 points go to....Iceland! But really XCom. I'm enjoying strategy games and think it would be a good genre to have. I'm still playing the first game so I'd take XCom 2. - Another stealth favourite is Dishonored 2, including Death of the Outsider DLC. The story ain't up to much but the levels are wonderful, and playing again with no powers, no kill, trying to get round the Clockwork Mansion, would sure be some immersion whilst floating thru the void. I figure together they'd be worth 4 points. - I'd take Outer Wilds (not Outer Worlds) for 3 points. I played earlier this year and it was a wonderfully immersive story that helped get me thru a rough time in lockdown. The only issue is I'd be dreaming that the ship would be eaten by an angler fish - That leaves 1 point, which I'd use for Return of the Obra Dinn. I played once last year but would like to play again as I didn't do the best puzzling. As soon as I've forgotten most of it I'll go again. I might be tempted to switch out Dishonored for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's not a better game, but it's a completely different style to everything else I have and is a great game to mooch about in. The tombs are good fun too. I'll have to figure that one out before Elon calls.... So, what would you choose?

Here is what I would take: - Mass Effect trilogy: 12 points
- BG3: 4 points; The completed game
- Civilization VI: 4 points; I included this game mainly because of how replayable it is.
That is all my points!

If you do decide to try it out, though; fair warning - the first few hours are painfully slow. Other than that, I loved it. Hell, with two years, I might even have time to beat it.

Y3ea hit's no tthat's why I picked games tha thav a highlevel of replayability becvaus etha tmeans a lot to me having many ways to play a game. As I don' t have a lo to fmoney to byu games I hav eto be pick ywith ergards which games to get that's why I think I pla ya lo tof games lik eME and DA because it's lik having a minimum of 3 to 4 games almost in on package given each class gives you a different experience an dpotentiall ydifferent powers t oplay around with so in truth I value replayability in my games as it means I can come back to them an experience something new each time I play

I'd load up that hard drive with - Baldur's Gate 1, Siege of Dragonspear, and Baldur's Gate 2, along with literally every single mod I have ever thought of checking out in addition to the usual tweaks and QoL improvements I never play without. Mod NPC's, new kits, new areas... The mod files are tiny by modern standards, so I'd have an insane amount of different things to play with and variations on how to play through the games with negligible impact on the space taken up on the hard drive. Absurd replayability. Even with the games and mods put together I can't imagine they'd add up to more than a 3 or 4 in the point system - Whatever would be the most recent Pro Evolution Soccer released by the time we blast off. Would also be modded in order to get all the real world leagues, club names, logos and kits instead of the kinda-but-not-really replacements they use otherwise since no matter what year it is, they don't have the official licenses for most of the teams and leagues. Idk what to rate this in terms of points, maybe 4? - Total War: Warhammer 2 with all DLC installed + a handful of tweak mods. Insane replay value again, with how different each campaign feels depending on faction, legendary lord and starting location. 4 points, maybe 5? - Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Maybe I'll finally get around to actually playing this beyond the first 10-15 hours if I'm stranded on another planet for a couple of years plus it's another game that comes built in with a ton of different ways to play it with all of the gazillion options for how to build your own character and your party, and different paths to take in quests. Let's call that a 5. That all adds up to 18 points if I'm going by my maximum estimates, so I should have room for 2 more points... - Fire Pro Wrestling World. Don't judge me.

Honey Select (4) Grand Theft Auto V (5)
I probably don't need any fantasy or sci-fi games, because I'm sure that Mars and the spacecraft are already too much of a handful for me. Just need something in case I get homesick or bored.

I wouldn't go to Mars if they paid me Were I forced kicking and screaming into the spacecraft, a difficulty would be that I get bored easily and hardly ever replay games. Though my first couple years in the States I could barely afford games and had to settle for a handful of them, so then this scenario isn't without precedent. - Crusader Kings 2 (3 points): CK3 is better mechanically, but it just released while CK2 has seven years worth of additional content to tide me over. This series is the only one that can keep me hooked for hundreds of hours, so it's a no brainer.
- Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (3 points): First PC game I ever played and I still come back to it every now and then. That must count for something. Plus it's got like a bajillion campaigns and being stuck in the Musk prison ship might just motivate me to finish them all.
- Starcraft 2 (4 points): With all the extra content. Long, epic campaigns, some of which I've yet to play even though I keep meaning to, fun co-op mode, plus a lot of cool user made content. I'd be tempted to take Warcraft 3 instead, but Blizzard had to royally screw it up.
- Divinity: Original Sin 2 (3 points): My favorite RPG of recent years. It is long, which any RPG would have to be to justify bringing along, consistently fun to play, and it's got a lot of potential for replayability.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (4 points): Also a goddamn marathon of an RPG, particularly with both expansions, but provides a pretty distinct experience from D:OS2.
Plus, this way I won't have to bother uploading porn to the hard drive. - Zeus: Master of Olympus (2 points): With the Poseidon expansion. Serves as a more chill strategy experience, and I think this is overall my favorite of the old Impression Games' city builders.
- Primordia (1 point): Short point-and-click adventure. Played it a while back and was pleasantly surprised. Might serve as a nice snack between heavier fare.

Ok:
3 + 3 points: Baldur's Gate I and II + ToB. Because of the trilogies' replay value and its super important place in my life (best childhood memories) it takes the top spot. Also due to its replay value, there is still many variants I have not yet explored. Also the familiarity of that game would probably help me immensely to cope with the alien unfamiliar and isolated place that is Mars.
4 + 4 Points: Metro 2034 and Metro Exodus. 2 emotional rollercoaster games that have it all - shooting, stealth, survival, graphics, action, story, horror, depth, looting, characters, exploration. Definitely ideal to play when things are going extremely slow on Mars and boredom has to be fought. They stimulate many different sections of my brain at the same time.
2 Points. Unreal Tournament 99' (fully modded): another classic, a simple yet very refined multiplayer shooter game, mainly meant for competitive matches among friends. Good for lighthearted fun and can (should) be played among friends competitively. A lot of fun, fast paced action to help unwind and bond with coworkers after a hard day.
2 Points: LEGO Studio. This is an extensive CAD program that allows you to build complex LEGO models. I thinks its a good idea to bring something that allows me to manifest my creativity. Also I love LEGO, good for familiarity. And it would give me something to look forward to returning to earth - when I return I can get all the parts to turn the digital models into physical ones.
1 Point: Tetris. Because TETRIS.
1 Point: Magic The Gathering Forge. This is a small program all about Magic The Gathering trading card game. Since saving space and weight is paramount for missions to Mars I'd better leave my physical card decks behind and use the program to play my decks against AI - or coworkers - if they are nerd enough. (I'd still smuggle my favorite deck to Mars)

I'd need probably replacement mice and headsets.
Heavy contenders for replayability are 1) TW WH2 2) Kerbal Space Program 3) Rimworld 4) Oxygen Not Included 5) Dwarf Fortress 6) XCom2 7) DCS 8) Civ6

Well i figure RDR2 is as far as i know over a 100GB big and still an AAA game so 4 points so a fully modded Skyrim is as you said ( only ) 40GB or so so to me it's still 4 points. So you can bring another game with you. But i do not make the rules here so you better ask ArcadiaGrey.

From the builder front I can also recommend:
1) Space Engineers 2) Minecraft (maybe an older version) 3) Satisfactory (though a bit static) 4) From the Depths
For survival nothing tops
5) The Long Dark
Stuff I never finished
6) DoS2 (it's a bit long for my taste)
7) NMS (might be nice builder option, too. I didn't explore that heavily)
Should all fit nicely in the 20 point budget. I take two drives so I can fit 40 points, OK?

Definitely games with better than average replayability then. 5 points: Heavily modded Skyrim 1 point: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri 1 point: Warhammer 40k Mechanicus 2 points: Warhammer 40k Gladius -What, I like that game! 5 points: The Witcher 3 -Only one PT so far, could do another 2 points: Kotor -Bioware and Star Wars goto Mars!
