So, I never thought I would try out the Citadel DLC (from what I read, it sounded tonally inconsistent, like an alternate universe take). I was trying to alter my canon to a tragic bisexual journey as opposed to just straight, and sacrificed Garrus to the Suicide Mission to make way for a female romance in the third. I never liked the idea of romancing Liara in the first game, but her changes over the course of the series made her seem to be a decent candidate for the third. Well, it turns out that her content as a new romance is quite thin, so I thought I might try out Citadel for extra padding to make it work. I actually still found her to be somewhat bland, so I restarted Mass Effect 3 with my backup plan to romance Traynor.
Anyway... I got to the Ambush sequence, and Liara is the companion to show up to help out. And she hit on my Shepard too, even though I started over, and locked in the Traynor romance, and used EDI the most. Is the Liara flirt a bug? And does anyone know how the DLC selects which companion comes to the rescue?

If you are in a romance with Ashley, Kaiden, Tali, or Garrus, they show up. In a romance with Liara, anybody else, or nobody, she shows up.

Traynor has a small but amusing role in the main plot for the Citadel DLC (not sure how far you've gotten), so I suppose they had to keep her away from the main action somehow.
I agree with you that Citadel DLC feels a bit like an alternate universe - it's a funny and heartwarming coda, but not 100% consistent with the characters or the ME universe as we knew them. In particular, I suspect Bioware designed the very last scene with the assumption that many players would be playing it out of sequence rather than as part of a full playthrough. I almost always wait to play it until after finishing the story in ME3 - I load it up using the "legacy save" that the game creates and that starts from just before the assault on Cerberus HQ. Otherwise I would find myself wondering why these people who are so serious most of the time are yukking it up between missions so much.

Despite my varied search attempts, I couldn't find any definitive answers.
Thanks for your response, that's exactly what I was hoping to discover.

I completed the main missions last night, and it wasn't as bad as I expected, overall. Really, only the Citadel Archives section seemed excessive. The ambush, casino, and even the Normandy sequence felt reasonably consistent with the mild, occasional humor seen throughout the series. Perhaps being a renegade stops some of silliest stuff dead in its tracks.
I haven't used any of the meet-ups yet, and I intend for Shepard to call for a "quiet" gathering, so I will see how the rest of it feels later.

You did mention you romanced her. With the party, I would suggest making a save before inviting anyone since their dialogue changes depending on what kind of party you choose. Here's the dialogue variations for Sam, if interested.

I guess it was a little disappointing since it was a non-combat scenario, but her encounter during the retaking of the Normandy more than made up for the omission. I took Kaidan, who I romanced in the first game, and they went undercover as a couple. He was a good sport. I was more put off by Liara coming to the rescue in the first part, then heavily flirting with my Shepard, despite never having made any overtures towards her.
I looked at your thread before, when I failed to initiate the romance, because of Shepard's renegade nature. Thanks for bringing it up again; I hadn't checked out the party sequence notations. There are a lot of variations...time to orchestrate.

Really disappointing that they didn't include the ME2 characters for the combat section of Citadel.
Can use them in the Armax Arena, so they'd work as combat squadmates. I guess they simply couldn't be bothered to record a couple hundred more lines of generic banter for each. Only for the ME1 characters because screw those ME2 schmucks.
Traynor could come too. Give her a gun and copy the powerset from one of the many ME3MP characters.
Instead you get canon waifu Liara if you were dumb enough to pick one of those wrong romances.

Jack's scenes are a nice addition to her story ark (if romanced)

Jack's scenes are a nice addition to her story ark (if romanced) Agree, shows more of her hidden from others character traits as LI. Even if as a friend, you still have something (mean the pet-scene), but it is not the same. I was more put off by Liara coming to the rescue in the first part, then heavily flirting with my Shepard, despite never having made any overtures towards her. Sorry, but annoying as f*ck this "Liara-everywhere". As always, easy to put her ass in some cutscene closer to her idol instead of showing Sam and others how they care for Shep. Even considering DLC itself where many things from the game are shown in a certain way, Liara, known for her love and weird behavior when it comes down to Shepard, is even more annoying, nothing else. The first time saw that scene did not understand myself WTH she was doing there with her flirting whatever.
