Still haven't gone off with Gorion. Did the Tutorial (of course) and spent an hour, I think, doing the small side-quests within the castle walls. Somehow, this game reminds me of Ocarina of Time, but in a good way. Must be the fact that there's sometimes no music except for the sound effects. Anyway, I think I'll be giving updates here and there.

Think I'll play this again tomorrow, but I have to say: it's damn hard doing this without seeing any spoilers sometimes, especially when you want to talk about it whenever such-and-such event "just happened."
I'm playing, like, four other games at the moment, so keep that in mind as well.

Gorion's dead, Imoen's voice-actor sucks, and I just got two other companions. Also, at the Inn place. I'm guessing this is where you get Jaheira as a companion (I saw some playthroughs of Baldur's Gate II a while back). Anyway, apparently you can go back to Candlekeep? I didn't risk it in the end. Best to do what I'm told in this case.

It should be somewhere in the docs or in your journal that nobody gets into Candlekeep who doesn't hand over a very valuable tome as the entrance fee. At this stage of the game you can't have found one, so if you went back there the guards wouldn't let you in.
Jaheira and Khalid are in the common room at the inn, yeah. Games from this era didn't hold your hand, so you'll have to actively search for them.

It just lets you figure things out. I think more games should to that nowadays. Not that it isn't a bad idea to have games that have more pointers, but you get the point, I'm sure.

What'd you do? Drop a fireball in a populated town?

Just in case you haven't seen them, there are maps on this page that were included in the original BG edition but not, apparently, in the EE. Look for the paper maps in the middle of the gallery at the bottom of the page. (I'd directly link them, but the page is set up in an annoying fashion.) BG1 maps wiki
Edit: Warning; the Blade And Stars inn (which comes up in a quest or two) is not where the map says it is. It's now in the south section of Baldur's gate. I guess they relocated after Volo drew the map.
