Crusader Kings III - it was the only 2020 game I played and it is awesome. But I don't have a problem. You have a problem. Seriously, seriously addictive, so watch out. Not to me, of course, I'm mentally strong and can start and stop playing whenever I want to as long as it is 3am and I've been staring at Wales for 8 hours straight. I. Don't. Have. A. Problem. You suer you don't have a problem. But I know what you mean I get so addicted to ME when doing a run of the games. It's probably why I don' thave tha tlong a gap between playthroughs. I mean I las tplayed about late November December and I'm playing the series again now as I'm about half way through ME2

I'd probably pick Deep Rock Galactic and CP 2077. And that is pretty much all the "released" stuff of 2020 I played.

I have only played one game released in 2020, and that's Cyberpunk 2077 on PC. I was lucky having been able to upgrade my PC with a new GPU and CPU, so it ran quite well, all things considered. Just a few crashes, but I was able to complete it. I had a lot of fun playing it, but despite the scope of it, I don't think it will remain being my personal GOTY 2020 if I play more 2020 games, like the PC version of Dead Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn, or Doom Eternal... What i can tell you about Death Stranding is that most of the time you bring stuff ^ from A to B the game is not for everyone ( just a little warning ). I did liked the game though but if i would have the choice of those three games you mentioned i would pick Horizon Zero Dawn. But that's just my opinion.

I have both Horizon and Death Stranding in my Steam library, waiting for me to finally complete Assassins Creed 3 remastered. I also have completed HZD already on PS4, and loved every minute of it, so I'm kind of leaning towards Death Stranding right now. I don't mind boring :-)

1. Cyberpunk 2020 (ran smoothly right out of the box on my 2016 PC which hasn't had any hardware upgrades since then) 2. Valheim (great early access game, and I don't even like the genre that much) 3. Erm. The above two games are the only 2020 releases that left me with a very positive impression. Played Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, but didn't finish it. Got bored somewhere in the middle. I might come back to it some day.
Games not from 2020 that I enjoyed a lot: State of Decay 2 Juggernaut Edition, Everspace, Mordheim: City of the Damned and Gladius: Relics of War.
Long term game I still enjoy: Warframe.

1. My #1 game of 2020 was definitely Horizon: Zero Dawn. It may have just been a console port but I played it for the first time when it came out on PC and it completely blew me away.
2. Cyberpunk was great but it wasn't as great as I was hoping for (especially in terms of simulating the world and the side activities, the story quests were excellent). Also, I really only got to play it in January 2021.
3. Half Life Alyx was great in VR. Not a huge innovation but just very well made.
4. AC Valhalla is a really nice game but in the end, it is just another AC and it didn't quite capture me like Origins and Odyssey did.
5. The final version of Black Mesa with the Xen levels. This would be further up on the list if it weren't just an update. I definitely recommend this game to shooter fans. IMO, it's better than pretty much all the modern shooters that come out today. Every level is somehow different and special. If you loved Hald Life or even if you never played it but like shooters, give Black Mesa a try.

Let's see. Kinda tough year, can't really point a standout game. But in no particular order:
AC Valhalla - some steps back, some steps forward from Odyssey. Not quite the punch Kass had, but was a good game until it started feeling a bit too long toward the end.
CP2077 - a very flawed game, but if you force yourself to ignore some serious open world flaws, it's not a bad story driven game.
Immortals Fenyx Rising - this was probably my biggest surprise of the year. I went in with low expectations, the game started a bit slow, but then it got very entertaining and kept going.
I was wondering if I should put Horizon Zero Dawn here - a nice game, but somewhat overhyped in my view. It didn't make me want to replay it and I still don't feel the urge, unlike the top 3 games I pointed.
There is also a bunch of games that are not from 2020, but I played them for the first time during that year and had a lot of fun with:
Yakuza 0, 1, 2.
Detroit Become Human
Subnautica
Outer Wilds.

Good question, I had to look up my libraries to see what I played in 2020, and there were not so many games released that year that I have actually played. But here are my three favorites from last year:
Cyberpunk 2077 The pre-launch hype was cranked all the way up to 11, so I braced myself for disappointment although the premise and setting of the game is right up my alley. Playing on PC, I was lucky not to experience any game-breaking stuff and after some tinkering with the settings it ran smoothly all the way. I enjoyed this game a lot - its story, characters, exploration and immersion. Trying out different builds was also a lot of fun, so I am looking forward to CDPR getting their act together and putting out some DLC.
PGA 2K21 Unless you are a golfer in RL or particularly enjoy virtual golf games this one may not be your cup of tea. But this game is good. They managed to deploy a swing mechanic that feels quite close to the real thing in a way that variations creping into your motion tend to produce bad results and are not always easy to fix on an "off" day as opposed to giving a highly satisfying experience when everything clicks and you just cruise along playing well. Sporting a dedicated community with lots of tournaments and outstanding user-created courses to play there´s lots of fun to be had.
Black Mesa 2020 finally saw the release of the full version of this re-make of the original Half-Life. It now includes the last levels (which were nothing to write home about in the original and are much better here). This game was made by fans of the original and is in my opinion the best way to enjoy this classic game.
Besides those, I played some games initially released in 2019 last year. Of those, I liked Control and The Outer Worlds a lot. I also finally managed to get Metro:Exodus, so that one is next on the list to play.

Some of the things I like about BG3 are that it has a customizable pc; lots of dialogue options; companions who are controllable in combat and who have companion quests, banter, and romances; lots of spells, including noncombat spells; close-up camera during npc conversations; and high-quality VO, music, and graphics. For me everything in the game is fun to do. The game doesn't waste my time with large empty areas or lots of collections or filler fetch quests. The druid class they just added is also very well done, especially being able to turn into a variety of animals both in and out of combat.

CP2077 for the urban world, story and gameplay. Pluis, it's Cyberpunk.
Deep Rock Galactic is a classic 4P coop shooter following in the tradition of L4D. 4 dwarves in space go mining, each can pick unique class, 4 complement the team in very thought-trough way. Map is procedural and almost fully destructible (Driller specialises in drilling new paths and passages, but everyone can dif with pickaxe, also melee weapon). It's got good humour but the best is how the gameplay supports teamwork. It just works and there is mostly no ranting. Brings the best of coop shooters with innovative map designs - think Warframe procedural lego map tile rearrangement and have this refined with a more malleable map.

Baldurs Gate 3.
I love the story, the npcs and how the world looks. I'm totally drawn into that game. Since it is EA, some things are a bit winky still (*coughfightingcough*), but it is still one of the most fun games of the last years for me. Not quite Bloodlines level, but definitely Dragon Age level.

I played three new games in 2020. I can't choose between them.
Persona 5 Royal
A re-release of 2017 Persona 5 with a number of additions. Basically a band of misfit teenagers that have all been victims of abuse (in one form or another) by authority figures, band together and fight back using a magical world. I really enjoyed it. The characters are mostly fantastic, hanging out with them is a blast. The main quest is engaging and features and "Usual Suspects" level plot twist. Or "Master Lee" level, since this is a BioWare forum. Haha.
Cyberpunk 2077
A rushed game with numerous flaws, but if you can get past that it is still a real good game. Great characters, pretty good story, and a city I just wanted to hang around in. Too bad the world activities were so lacking, and while there are some great quests, there was a big drop in quantity from TW3. Really just lacking diversity in things to do.
Ghost of Tsushima
Fun gameplay. An absolutely beautiful setting. A story that is pretty good if you are willing to meet in on its own terms, and accept the characters for who they are.

I don't think I bought any new games in 2020. Just old stuff and DLCs. I mean, I got Warcraft 3 Reforged on pre-order, but that isn't GOTY material.
No idea for GOTY!

Jedi Fallen Order is the GOTY for me, and if I had to pick a second (though I have not played it but only heard amazing things about it) it would be Ghost of Tsushima, I suppose. But as for games I've played personally....my choice would definitely be Fallen Order.

Hmm. This is a tough one for me, due to not actually buying many currently release games this year. However, I'm going to go with Cyberpunk 2077. Thank God I wasn't the only one nor the first to say it Despite playing on PS4 I didn't really have too many issues, and I liked it so much I also bought it to play on my laptop. Why? I enjoyed the storyline, and there's enough flexibility in it and character wise to play it differently. Who am I kidding, I'm going to do it how I always do and play it the exact same way every time . The setting was interesting to me, I'm into more Sci fi / futuristic settings, and the details they've put into the world visually, are pretty damn good. There's enough to do, whether it's crafting, side fill quests ect, to keep it interesting enough and have that little bit too much that makes you think "oh yeah, I'll really try that out next PT." There's your LI as well if that's what you're into (thanks bioware for ruining my life forever onwards), although, some paths are definitely more fleshed out than others. Female V I thought was well voiced, and the supporting characters were also believable. Not sure about male V, I've not played him yet. It has its flaws and bugs, but for me I can over look them. But also too, I'll play anything, and there's not much that's a deal breaker for me (ie. things like first person, I mean, I'd prefer if you could see those hours spent in CC but I'll live.). The other contender I guess was ACV, but I dumped that on 2077's release and haven't been back...yet.

Jedi Fallen Order is the GOTY for me, and if I had to pick a second (though I have not played it but only heard amazing things about it) it would be Ghost of Tsushima, I suppose. But as for games I've played personally....my choice would definitely be Fallen Order. Yeah Jedi Fallen Order i still haven't touched that game since i asked for help ... sorry. Btw can you tell us why Jedi Fallen order. But when it comes to Ghost of Tsushima i can definitely recommend that game to you you should play it. Why Jedi Fallen Order? I love the gameplay, the combat, the story and the characters. It is the most fun I have had playing a STAR WARS game since the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight franchise from Lucas Arts (1997-2004), which for their time (and may even today) are/were great games and still in some ways represent the 'bench mark' for lightsaber combat....which I think, Fallen Order nailed and even surpassed beautifully. I remember the first time I swung my lightsaber at a Purge troooper and connected, or was blocked by his electro-staff; I could actually feel the weight of the impact....From that point on, I knew that Fallen Order was going to be something very special. Another GOTY for me (if this counts, if I can include it....) is the Complete Edition of HZD on PC (as I have never played it before now when it was released on PC late last year)
