Should ME5 be a proper ME:A sequel with a good story?

I’m not a fan of the thread title since MEA has a good story, but yes ME5 should be a sequel with another good story. There are things left unexplored, like the Jardaan/Opposition Conflict, the Kett, the Mysterious Benefactor, and so on.

A sequel can be of any quality. but a good story with good game mechanics will attract both old and new.  Well One of my actual ideas that have Mama Ryder would be personally responsible for un-earthing the secrets of Jardaan after she wakes up and deals with the knowledge that Alec Ryder. Losing your husband and almost losing your children will hard to bear that is reason she walks off.  The player helps Mama Ryder deals with everything. 

Another Idea is that Ryder twins deals with a New faction that is encouraging a Civil war within Nexus after the ME:A 1

Yeah that's all I want pertty much Ryder returnin gpicking up where we left offin MEA and having an interesting story centering around the things w edicsovered in MEA. Especially as I was intrigued by the Jardaan and the Remnant and the role they my yet play in Andromeda.

Returning to Andromeda will be the death of Mass Effect. You can’t improve much at all on a failed lackluster plot for a foundation. You’ll just get disaster 2.0.

ME4 (because MEA doesn’t deserve inclusion with MET) should be in the MW where there’s actually rich, diverse, and complex cultures and lore. You know, what makes Mass Effect, Mass Effect.

Hard and easy no.

I guess the question BioWare’s yet to answer is whether or not it still has what it takes to make the most of that lore, and have it translate into a proper story. 

Destiny, for example, has quite a lot of lore attached to it. Problem is, Bungie does fuck-all to make it function as a part of whatever it passes off for a narrative at any given time, so what we’re presented with to tie into gameplay is always particularly shallow, as are its cast of characters. And that’s really the thing. This complex culture and lore will be for nothing unless BioWare actually writes engaging characters and stories to accompany it. The Mass Effect trilogy rode on the momentum of its character writing as well as its presentation, which is why Mass Effect 2 is so beloved, despite the fact that internal logic basically left the chat. I think this was where Andromeda lost some people. It didn’t have quite the same energy and sharpness we were used to, and at times could be fairly tonally dissonant. 

Point is, the exact same thing could just as well happen in this Milky Way-set game, and lore won’t save it. 

I'm personally not very interested in The Further Adventures of Goofball Ryder and the Bland Brigade. I also don't really need to know who murdered Jien Garson or who the benefactor is.

But then again, a good story can be had in either galaxy, if BioWare has the writers to actually create that story and the management to see it implemented into a good game. Unfortunately, this also works the other way around.

I expect Andromeda to take a backseat because most of the trailer visuals seemed Milky Way related, and the only recognizable character in it, Liara, is not generally associated with Andromeda.

Sure, MEA was a good game with a good story and I want more of it.

I really dont want more of Shepard, as good as ME1 is for me.

Me too. I hope we can explore more of the threads that left open at the end, also explore Andromeda too and not only be in the mw but it seems it might be possible to travel back and forth.

Direct sequel to ME:A. Tell me about the Jardaan, their vaults, the Remnant (wouldn't it be something if the Remnant rebelled against the Jardaan and wiped them out? ), the Kett and the Angara.

Not that interested in Andromeda. The writing/execution of Mass effect andromeda was pretty bad, so its' best to be left to drift into obscurity.

All of the things I liked about Andromeda were from the MW (the tech, the few MW species they didn't throw in the trash) and none of the new things (characters, pretentious fish people race, organic borg race with a silly reproductive method that should render them extinct) particularly interested me. The environments for the hub worlds were incredibly bland (desert planet, tundra planet, desert planet 2). I also didn't like the tone of it. The anti militarism was cringe, laughably out of place and didn't fit the previously established setting full of pirates, slavers, hostile species and other nefarious entities in deep space at all at all. The Ryder family focus made the already much smaller small universe feel even smaller. The AI was incredibly annoying and frequently got used as an eye rolling plot device while Ryder (true to name) was unimportant and basically just along for the ride. The goofy Whedonesque snark and hijinks did nothing for me because the characters participating in them never earned my emotional investment (with the exception of peepee and liam, who earned my hatred). 

It's not that I don't think the Andromeda setting could be used to tell a decent story and do something interesting with it, but I seriously doubt the ability of BW's current writing staff to do so.

I also don't think that this writing staff would do a decent MW game, so I find the question largely irrelevant. Even if the next game isn't a literal sequel to Andromeda, it will likely be a spiritual one in terms of tone, themes etc, because more of the people making it will be the same ones that made Andromeda, not the MW trilogy. The people who made that one great (well, two of them anyway) are all gone and have been for a decade now.

I thought it was very weird how near everyone in this setting that previously feared and banned AI's was now totally fine with a major leadership figure hooking their brain up to one.

Like the only people that ever express even mild concern are Drack (who is just treated as some out of touch grandpa) and that sidequest woman with the disabled son (who is portrayed as a blithering idiot), like there was some major cultural shift I missed even though the AI left the same year as ME2. 

But that's hardly the only lore from the previous series they forgot about or ignored. MEA's similarity to the other entries in the series basically ends at the IP.
