I have zero interest in Andromeda. The very premise of the game is a cheapo copout to try and hide from those horrendous dogfart ending(s). Stealing resources from the Reaper War to go hide in another galaxy makes zero cents. Between the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy is a Huge vastness (2.537 Mly) with no where to discharge a drive core - which means no FTL for the trip, according to lore. You live and die by your lore - so making up some tech to work around your lore feels like an even dumber copout. It was so contrived that based on that info alone, I knew I did not want to get the game.
Not only did they break with lore, they are denying the very premise of the game - the Mass Effect. Mass Effect is more than a name, it was the very technology that those clever Protheans left behind for us. I know you all know the real story, after all it is what brought us all here.
The MW is only about 3% explored. I'd like to see more of it - there could be thousands of relays yet to be activated, full of worlds and riches and dangers and aliens and adventures. The Milky Way with its ME Relays was the goose that laid golden eggs. To get rid of it was blasphemy.
I want Shepard back, with the gang. Maybe not all of them, but my Shep and his bro Garrus and my main squeeze Liara (or insert your LI, assuming they are alive and/or not cheating on you). We have a huge variety of species and lore from the MW - to throw that out makes no sense, especially for some new dumb drama repeat of the same old story that we already played in the OT, but is now in Andromeda. I want new adventures with my gang. After all, we've only spent a few years as Commander Shepard. My Shepard isn't even that old, and is certainly not dead.
Aside form that I really hated that snot-nosed whiny assed punk Ryder whos nuts haven't even dropped yet. If I have to choose between Shepard and Ryder, I will choose Shepard EVERY singe time - even if he is dead.

I guess the question BioWare’s yet to answer is whether or not it still has what it takes to make the most of that lore, and have it translate into a proper story. Destiny, for example, has quite a lot of lore attached to it. Problem is, Bungie does fuck-all to make it function as a part of whatever it passes off for a narrative at any given time, so what we’re presented with to tie into gameplay is always particularly shallow, as are its cast of characters. And that’s really the thing. This complex culture and lore will be for nothing unless BioWare actually writes engaging characters and stories to accompany it. The Mass Effect trilogy rode on the momentum of its character writing as well as its presentation, which is why Mass Effect 2 is so beloved, despite the fact that internal logic basically left the chat. I think this was where Andromeda lost some people. It didn’t have quite the same energy and sharpness we were used to, and at times could be fairly tonally dissonant. Point is, the exact same thing could just as well happen in this Milky Way-set game, and lore won’t save it. Well, if you think there's high probability of bad writing happening in the MW despite a sound setting and rich lore, then what disaster do you think is going to happen with another Andromeda which has nothing going for it? Even with the bad writing, at least the MW itself would be a breath of fresh air. Obviously, I want good writing, but until BioWare can prove to us it can do that again, they're going to need inspiration and help. That won't come from Andromeda. If there’s one word I’d say never comes to mind in all of this, “inspiration” would probably be it. I’d bet anything that during the preproduction phase, there was a lot of mulling over how the hell this setting can still function with such a wildly disparate set of endings, and at some point, the ODSY was born as well as the Andromeda Initiative. That they’re doubling back to this setting in spite of the sort of issues that would have resulted in the creation of Andromeda in the first place, I get the impression that this is more an act of desperation than an inspired story choice, so obviously I’m keeping my expectations exceptionally low. I’m sure the Legendary Edition serves as a good two-pronged tactic to bolster awareness and latch onto some good old-fashioned nostalgia, but the cynic in me can’t help but be fairly tepid in all of this. Obviously, either way could end up in a particularly mediocre game, but the idea I just don’t buy is that a setting or previously established characters are ever solutions in and of themselves. Just look at Game of Thrones’ last season. D&D raped those characters harder than anyone in that universe did, and they had tons of material to work with.

I have little patience for Andromeda fans not only because the story and foundation for it was cheap hogwash, but because they support a game that spits in the face of the franchise they claim to love. The concept of the “soul” of the franchise is an interesting one to me, because I feel like that died with the original endings. Now it’s just a matter of seeing how this new game reconciles this.

Exactly. There was literally no inspiration for Andromeda. None. It was a fleeing scene. Inspiration, however gushed everywhere in ME1 and ME2, around every turn. I was drugged. Hell, I loved ME3 too up until Priority:Earth. But I learned to deal with it in the end.

BioWare fled from one bad experiment, and here they are escaping another, right back to the first one. I’ve resigned to this franchise being a floundering mess, so I’ll take what I can get so long as it’s good. My one real concern now is the protagonist and cast of characters, because I’m completely fatigued on Shepard, and would rather have a fresh perspective on this “present-day” Milky Way, unencumbered by all the baggage and callbacks with old cast members. At this point, nothing would please me more if just about everyone is flat out dead, so as to avoid as much of this memberberry dialogue as we can.

I dunno i feel i'll be looking for new game to feel more in tune with the spirit of what the original series presented. MEA felt divorced beyond desire to trade off brand.

Funny I see insisting going back to The Milky Way the exact same way. I see plenty of people wanting to play Shepard and crew again going back to The Milky Way which as I see it spits in the face of the actions they did to save the galaxy. Just because Andromeda had flaws with its start doesn't mean it cannot improve and if it already decided it won't improve that means going back to The Milky Way would be just as bad.

That is my biggest concern with going back to The Milky Way and why I think BioWare abandoned it for Andromeda in the first place. Was the cast and crew and how people cannot get over them which as been demonstrated across three sequences to Dragon Age: Origins where people still want The Warden to return. All I want is Andromeda not to be completely erased and I am going with whatever BioWare decides to do, but having anything to do with Shepard and Crew is a very bad idea and why I rather not return to The Milky Way.

I'd rather they continue in Andromeda bu tthen that's jus me thoug hbut I suspect ther ae rothers wh ofeel the same too.

Well I am interested that Bioware should make ME:5 into a proper ME:Andromeda sequel. I really wouldn't mind if it were. I often said that Andromeda has potential if it had better story and (almost more importantly) better game design.
But given what has been teased so far, I don't think this is an option. I think either we won't hear much about Andromeda at all in the next ME game or it will be play a minor role. At least the teaser IMO implies that the main focus will be on the Milky Way and the aftermath of the reaper war.
If that is the case, I don't really need Andromeda in it to be honest. I thought one of the great moves of the Andromeda authors was to move away from the MW and thus stay away from the trilogy and it's outcomes completely. That was awesome and it counterbalanced a lot of the really shitty writing and retconning that was done to create the Andromeda Initiative in the first place. Now that they seem to move back to the Milky Way anyway, I'd honestly rather they just forget about Andromeda and mention it as little as possible. That's my preference anyway.

I mean It'll be sad to see Bioware just leave Andromeda fans in the dust after sticking up to them during that infamous time during the game's release. They're just digging more holes for themselves as they try to run away from controversy after controversy. Sometimes it's best to stick to your guns and actually create a game with a clear vision and plan but if they continue to flip flop, then Bioware will just end up pleasing no one like Anthem.

You know, I'd probably be happiest with a ME3MP DLC at this point, lol... But BioWare won't even add the MP to the LE and maintain those servers for the undying loving playerbase of the only fun MP they ever made. So whatever.
Next Mass Effcet game is gonna suck either way.
So... I AM KROGAN!!!
(The biotic boom party will go on forever in my head. Nothing can taint that. It was perfect.)

I am krogan I guess. I think MEA had created a lame setting, characters, story. But it has fans so it would be nice if they got their game. I would have no interest in it unless they changed it so much the fans of MEA would probably no longer care for it. So for me personally I'd want a return to the MW, does not have to be Shepard for me(though holy fuck did thy step in it with their preview thing, because a lot of fans are now expecting Shepard). Why, becuase it actually has a good setting.
In the next game I'd freaking memory hole MEA and its epic shit on the lore and setting of mass effect. Then later on continue MEA as an alternate reality spin off where that shit somehow makes sense for the setting and lore.

Sorry to burst your bubble folks but Andromeda had plenty of soul, character and mystery. To flat out ignore it or memory hole it will just anger fans who wanted to know more about them and just create another division. This is a unique opportunity to finally address both and unify them. Based on the reception of the LE, it seems that a lot are willing to give them a (cautionary) chance. Now if Bioware doesn't address Andromeda in anyway then I'm just going to walk away from the franchise. Why be messed around by Bioware again?

To flat out ignore it or memory hole it will just anger fans who wanted to know more about them and just create another division. This is a unique opportunity to finally address both and unify them. Based on the reception of the LE, it seems that a lot are willing to give them a (cautionary) chance. Now if Bioware doesn't address Andromeda in anyway then I'm just going to walk away from the franchise. Why be messed around by Bioware again? Yeah if they can sta yfaithful to the endings of th etrilogy and also keep things going in Andromeda I wouldn't be against a possible crossover but for me it has to tick both those boxes in order to stand a chance. I just don' t think Bioware can or at least I don' t see a way. But then they may have a loophole they can exploit in their lore to make it happen we'll have to see.

ME:A comes closest to ME1 in terms of discovery and mystery, but apparantly you're not allowed to think that if you're a tr00 f4n of the ser13s!1!1. No true Scotsman for games. Gamers are ridiculous.

As much as I enjoy Andromeda, it really doesn't have the same 'drag you in and drown you' pull that MET does. Could a sequel be better? Perhaps. But is it likely? I won't hold my breath. Bioware clearly have the same thought too. Why else would they present a vid with Liara in it.

Now if Bioware doesn't address Andromeda in anyway then I'm just going to walk away from the franchise. Why be messed around by Bioware again? Unfortunatley games are a business and if Andromeda really did fail/ under perform then I would not expect them to make a sequel. I am not sure I would want them to actually. All things come to an end just sometimes that ending is less abrupt and less then ideal then we'd want but I have seen this dance play out too many times to really be...that annoyed by it. Stargate Universe ended on a massively sad cliffhanger/ note. Sure they continued it in comics but since I do not read comics for me the end of the second season was the ending and Sy Fy didn't deem it popular enough to justify continuing. 24, while it went on for a much longer time the ending still felt really cliff hangery to me...but Fox obviously decided that it wasn't worth continuing anymore. GThe point though is if Andromeda does get any sort of a sequel it either means A. Andromeda was not that much of a failure or B. BioWare still thinks they can turn it around despite its reception as they did with DA 2. As for any other Mass Effect option ultimatley we will just have to see. I will be less then enthused by a game that isn't a direct sequel to Andromeda, as I have said elsewhere, but I still love Mass Effect to at least keep an open mind no matter what else happens. To go back to my Stargate analogy despite how they left Universe I still love the franchise to be eager enough to see a new series or movie continuing it...yet also Origins looked like such a crap fest and betrayal of the lore that I just never botered with it. So we'll see...but I'm not going to dismiss any future ME project until we know more.

If Andromeda isn't heavily represented in any way, then I won't buy ME5. Plain and simple.
