Also, my PSU is a Corsair cx750m. The only way to know if this problem is still happening is to reinstall a game like Final Fantasy XV. It's one of the more demanding games, and it often happened there. Another thing, disabling Turbo boost kind of limits my CPU's power. The only other RAM I have is two DDR4 8gb sticks I'm saving for a new motherboard (which I'll be ordering in a couple of weeks along with a new CPU). My current motherboard is DDR3. New Motherboard+CPU+RAM is basically a new computer that will necessitate a fresh install of OS. That will almost certainly eliminate any errors you had previously (unless it was GPU of course). What are you planning to do with old parts?

I thought I didn't have to reinstall windows. Hmm I suppose you dont have to these days. In the olden days of WinXP your PC would probably spit out some BSOD screen and refuse to work but I guess on Win10 it should work better. Still, I would prepare for possible reinstall, just in case, you are exchanging major part of your PC. Also Windows tends to accumulate a lot of crap during its lifetime so its an exellent time to do a fresh start. And a good learning and spiritual experience too. P.S. What you MUST do before exchanging motherboard is prepare your legaly obtained copy of Windows for migration to you new PC, since Windows is tied to your hardware (so that people could not install one copy of it on multiple PCs) support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/reactivating-windows-10-after-a-hardware-change-2c0e962a-f04c-145b-6ead-fb3fc72b6665

I would install OS from scratch on new platform. Even though Win10 can be moved easily to new hardware, because of legacies, there might be something still hanging which is "wrong". Especially older installers left a lot of crap behind into different places, but mostly to registry.
So, do a fresh install, install motherboard drivers first thing, then install gpu drivers, then the rest.

I find it convenient to for my current situation that I have my PC connected to my television. I'm not a competitive gamer anyway, and I should be receiving my new Xbox controller soon.

Okay, so I booted up Final Fantasy XV on steam. It's a demanding game, of course. The crash didn't happen, and I played for almost an hour using my old save. It does freeze for like a second several times when rendering, panning the camera, etc., and the fans get a little louder when this happens. I don't know whether it's the CPU's age or the RAM (there's only 8gb in my PC) causing this smaller issue, though. The same happens it Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's loading screen.
Then again, this issue is like a volcano. This could be another one of those long winded time periods when it's completely dormant. Get too comfortable after awhile and BOOM. Happens again.

I think you'd have to run some diagnostics while playing and log what's going on to figure out what the hitching might be. Fans spinning up is probably some kind of heat thing. Freezing or hitching could also be the GPU, if you know which fans are ramping up it helps. Unless I missed it, I'm not sure what CPU is in there, an i5 or i7 from the haswell generation? Something on z97 with 1150 pins anyway. You could use something like CPUID HWMonitor to log what's happening with your system in the background while playing download.cpuid.com/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.44.zip (<-- direct download) GPU-Z is good to see more with what's happening with your GPU www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ - this can also be set to log results for later analysis. Also, as Unicephalon 40-D said it's a good idea to reinstall windows on new hardware. If you haven't done it already, I highly recommend switching to an SSD at least for boot, if not for everything. Best upgrade that has an effect on the whole using-the-computer experience.

Haha, I'd just run across your post in the MELE thread, I see you also have a 2060. I had an i7-4790 until ~2019, it was starting to get a big bogged down though with some of the newer stuff. I suppose the 8gb could be something, depending on what's running in the background. MELE recommends 16GB ram, but you're a little ahead of the recommended specs for GPU, and CPU is right there. Might not be worth buying some extra RAM for the old machine though, at this point.

Well, I plan to buy a new processor and motherboard. I have 16gb RAM, I just can't use them on my current motherboard, which only supports DDR3. So, I'll have to start MELE with my current hardware, and then upgrade soon after. I don't know if I can get to 4k 60fps, though.

Now let me ask you this. The CPU I plan to buy is an i5-11400. Is this an upgrade from the i7-4790k?
