Good evening, ladies, gents and vorcha scum I just started to replay this game after a few years, been enjoying it in all of its glory, until i reached the fight with the desire demon at the circle tower, there the game freezes and after a second or so, it closes itself. I remember that i had this very same problem before, but at random points of the defence of Redcliff (right after fending the undead assault with the paladins, mostly), and i saw at the time that it was related to the fact that DAO uses no more than 2GB of ram, which as soon as it reached that, it closed itself (despite having 16GB aviable) just like it's happening to me now. Now, reckon that i have about 10 mods installed (facemorphs for the companions + the grey wardens armory + dog armor) that could be related to this problem, but the fact that i installed a program that supposudly increased the 2 GB cap to 4 GB to get around this problem didn't seem to work. So, has anyone had this problem before? and if so, how did you manage to overcome it?

You say you 'installed a program' to let the game use 4GB of memory... did you actually patch the game's executable, though? (Just adding the patcher to your PC won't have any effect.)
What is the full list of mods installed, and how were they installed (DAO ModManager, DAModder, daupdater, NMM, Vortex, ????). And what are your graphics settings? Sometimes lowering the Graphics Detail, Texture Detail, and Anti-Aliasing settings can help with situational crashing issues.

(was earlier this year) As for the mods: - Grey wardens of Ferelden - Dragon age redesigned - Pineappletree's vibrant colors - Full XP for the warden - RLs mabari madness most of them are extract and drop (though, i think one of them used DAOupdater).

GWoF is part DAzip, part override (if you use the NPC equipment or merchant components); likewise Mabari Madness has a DAzip base and optional overrides. DA Redesigned is that silly installer, but that just sticks files in override. There's nothing in that list of mods that gives me pause... it's a very conservative load, actually.
*scratches head*
Did you try lowering the graphics settings?

Ye, i wanted to keep the mods low by the experience i had the last time (got like 50 mods installed) when i had crashes every 10 mins (and made me stop to play the game for several years).
About lowering the settings, No, i haven't. The game already looks aged at it is, lowering the graphics won't do it any favors (and i got decent hardware too, it shouldn't be a problem). Know any other way to get over that 2GB cap?

I've been getting the same problem, with the game freezing up and then crashing. Also been having a problem with random FPS drops and spikes of frame drops whenever I highlight with TAB. Although so far one crash was when I wasd fighting Leliana's old 'friend' and the others have been at the party camp. Oddly enough the party camp crashing was fixed when I changed my graphics from Medium to High.
I don't remember Origin's being so high-maintenance, could it just be an issue with the GOG version, or because I'm using Nvidia/Intel?
Sadly I've tried a lot of common fixes, like running the game on single core affinity, using -dx9 etc. Also there are so many suggestions as to what will 'fix' the game it's hard to know what actually works and what doesn't. From lowering textures to medium, disabling frame-buffer effects to disabling persistent gore.

Curious. I was having issues in Denerim the last day or two, lost all progress in the city several times. Fun stuff! Then I remembered the LAA patch. I applied it, and instantly the issue with NPC clothing texture popping in Denerim (which would start and then moments later game would CTD) went away and the game is stable again. How did you apply the patch for NTCore? Perhaps try running it as admin. Also, you need to copy your original .exe, put the copy in the same folder as NTCore, then run NTCore and choose DAOrigins.exe from inside that folder. Patching is instantaneous, but it definitely worked for me. ETA: I also decided during this process, even though I own a brand new AMD processor (5600x), to set my core affinity for the game to just core 3 (arbitrary choice). This is my shortcut in the Origin client, under Advanced Launch Options: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 2 DAOrigins.exe -enabledeveloperconsole Works like a charm for me, if I can help you troubleshoot I am happy to

(i followed your instructions) Ps: Thx for answering this old ass thread

So, these instructions work for me, and should for you assuming Origin/GOG. If Steam, you need to download a custom exe as the Steam version will not patch properly. So, this is my first thought. Next would be what version of Windows are you running?

I suppose you could try to patch your original .exe again - assuming you made a backup of it. I think the software also produces an old.DAOrigins.exe. Are you running any aftermarket AV? I ask this to potentially rule out AV as an issue, I am using Windows free AV. I will dig into it a little more tomorrow, about to be bedtime for this bonzo

What if... what if i transfer NTcode to the original exe folder, and patch it right there?

I think that would be a good idea to try.
If the game loaded properly before patching, and after patch you got those errors, it would seem the patch applied. So, either the package you downloaded was corrupted, or something in your environment is to blame.
I am not sure that disabling Norton would prevent Norton from screwing with this tbh.

My game is crashing at Lothering. The minute I start to fight bandits in the area just outside Lothering the game crashes and goes to desktop. Sometimes I cannot even load the game. It crashes to the desktop. I just bought the iltinate edition from steam. Any suggestions?

Have you patched your game with either the 4GB or LAA (Large Address Aware) patches? Have you tried temporarily lowering your graphics settings?

First of all, let me give you a big shout out for answering all my questions! I have been able to move on with the game, so fingers crossed that the problem is solved. I have lowered my my video setting on the game, and changed it to windows setting (i.e. not fill screen), so I am thinking that helped. t The mods are: - Bidelles cosmetics
Improved Atmosphere White Teeth Dreamy Alistair More Hairstyles PTs Vibrant Colours Phoenix Armouy Lock Bash No Helmet Hack Chargenmorph Armour of the Black Fox - Wardens of Fereldon

In a minimal mod list list that, the most likely suspect for causing crashes is Improved Atmosphere. Make sure that the latest fixpack for the mod is installed (download from the sticky post in the comments tab).

Alright peeps, after a ragequit break from the game, i returned to it and just lowered the Antrosomthing filter to x4 (no noticiable visual impact) and it works like a charm.
Will update if it does crash in the future (i'm in the deep roads atm)
Update:
It crashes when there is a lot of enemies nearby (+10), like when you face the spider boss in Ortan taigh (lots of lesser spiders in the hidding, plus darkspawn) or defending Redcliff from the undead... looks like i'll need to lower all the specs while battling my way through some areas/parts of the game (that has worked so far).
