It's been awhile since I've done Awakening, so I can't remember how much of the stuff in your inventory transfers over with you. I know you keep the gear you have on you -- the armor and weapons. What about stuff in the backpack? Does that go with you? Or how about stuff in external chests like the one in Soldiers' Peak? (I also have some chests at party camp through mods.) If all that stuff goes away, I might as well sell unused equipment.
Is there anything I should stock up on that's more rare in Origins? What about money?

Make sure you unequip any DLC armor before entering the silverite mines though, the DLC armor gets lost forever and I learned that the hard way. Also as far as I know whatever you put in the soldiers peak chest stays in soldiers peak and doesn't get carried over. I think only items in your current inventory will carry over into awakening.

As far as DLC stuff, it is convoluted and I don't remember. Anyway stuff has to be equipped on your or in your inventory. Stuff equipped on your party members at the end of Origins is completely gone. I don't think the stuff in party chest (mod) transferred, and I haven't tried with Soldier's Peak chest although read it doesn't, as above. The trick if you want something to transfer that is equipped on your party (like if Lelianna had Rose's Thorn or something) is to load the post campaign save, go to camp, and then pull stuff off the party into the backpack. As far as stocking up, it is nice if you can save some Tome of Skill and Sundry because then you can put skill points into the new skills (like Clarity) right away. edit: also as far as the Silverite Mines are concerned, if on PC it is worth getting a Silverite Mine fix mod.

If memory serves, everything from the vanilla game and Return to Ostagar carry over. Stuff from Soldier's Peak and the Stone Prisoner do not. The items usually hammered are the Helm of Honnleath and the Warden Commander armour.
Anything you have in your inventory will go with you. Nothing stored in a chest will.
Lyrium and elfroot are available in unlimited quantities in Awakening. Deep Mushrooms are not. Stamina Potions require Deep Mushrooms. Your very first companions, before you have much of a chance to do anything, will be a sword 'n board warrior, a mage and an off-tank. When you meet them you will be able to configure them a bit. There are focus potions available later that allow you to respec yourself and your companions.
At the very end of Origins you may visit your camp and Soldier's Peak. I'm pretty sure you visit other places as well, but it's been a while since I have tried that.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reminder, especially about the Helm of Honnleath which my Arcane Warrior currently wears. The mod I linked to above might help, but I shouldn't take it for granted, I've never used it before. Fortunately, I did load up on deep mushroom when I ran into Ruck. Odd that they would introduce stamina potions in Awakening but then have the ingredients to make them extremely rare. I definitely don't look forward to the rune crafting!

Yeah, after the Coronation and the Epilogue, if you go to select saves for that character, there should be one that is called something like Post Campaign. I think it drops you on a field for some reason, but you can go to camp and pull the stuff off of those characters (and out of the camp chest if you have it). Then just drop a save, and use that save for the Awakening import.

Just started Awakening and installed a mod to allow the transfer of DLC equipment to Awakening. It successfully transferred the Helm of Honnleath. As to the Grey Warden armor, it transferred the chestpiece but not the gauntlets or the greaves. Oh well...
