In his serpentine form, elite boss Praetor Rykard rules over the hellscape that is Elden Ring’s Volcano Manor. Here’s the unique method to beating this monstrous foe!
After many hours traversing the Lands Between, you’ll have encountered some horrifically grotesque creatures. However, few can match the weirdness of Mt. Gelmir’s demi-god boss, Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. In the depths of the Manor, Rykard rests. Or rather, the god-devouring serpent that he willingly fed himself to. Rykard is an optional boss, but visually one of the most impressive, so you won’t want to miss him, or his Great Rune! Plus, you’ll gain a cool new weapon, which is key to beating Rykard. Here’s where to find the Great Spear, and how to use it to bring him down. Rykard can do some serious damage. Here are the best combinations for your Wondrous Physick Flask to see you through any battle! If you are looking for Elden Ring Runes, just google search Aoeah and check it out, use code FORUM for discount! Best Strategy to Beat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy in Elden RingFirst things first, let’s talk about that weapon you’ll need. As soon as you pass through the fog wall, you’ll notice a corpse holding a spear. Unusually, you’ll be treated to a short animation as you prise the armament from its hands. This is the Serpent-Hunter Great Spear, and it’s the key to this entire fight. Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls 3… These gimmicky fights aren’t new to FromSoftware games. But, this one is certainly one of the more intense! The special skill for this weapon uses a lot of FP, so make sure you’re using the best talisman to keep your blue bar full! Phase 1: God-Devouring Serpent--Two-hand the Serpent-Hunter, as blocking is fairly pointless here. --Equipping a Firedrake talisman will help negate AoE attacks. --Avoid using the slow heavy attack, instead opting for light attacks or the Ash of War. --Hitting it a few times will stagger the Serpent! --The Ash of War skill takes a moment to charge, but will do massive damage and stun the boss. --Follow up with a second L2/LT input for a combo that will uppercut the snake! You can summon in this fight, and the Mimic Tear will copy your loadout!--When the Serpent lifts its head, be ready to roll sideways or it’ll grab you. --Rarely, it will snap it’s jaws at you, getting closer! Running backwards works. --It also spits poison. The poison damage is minimal, but can distract or displace you. --Remember that the arena is huge, so you have plenty of room to avoid attacks. --The boss is surrounded by magma, but the Serpent-Hunter has crazy range, so keep your distance! Once the God-Devouring Serpent is defeated, it’s time for Phase 2: Rykard himself. You’ll be greeted to arguably the most bizarre (but captivating) cutscenes in Elden Ring. Lord Rykard, whose face is on the bottom of the dead Serpent’s neck, awakens and retrieves his sword (comprised of writhing, bloody limbs) from inside the snake’s throat. This is where the fight gets serious. Phase 2: Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy--When Rykard swings his sword in a 2-hit combo, dodge into the swing. --The second swing has a slight delay. It’ll hit the ground, then follow through. If it keeps catching you out, consider switching to a good shield and block. --He will jump into the air, with his impact upon landing throwing magma around the arena. --When he extends his head, beware the flaming skull that he emits. Move away from it. --Once his health hits 50%, he’ll launch Rykard’s Rancor, an army of floating skulls that will rain down on you. Keep running, but watch out for his continued attacks. --Whilst he is charging the Rancor attack, you can get in some free hits. --If either of you survive the Rancor, then the Taker’s Flame attack is up next. Rykard will raise his sword above his head for an incredible slam attack. --You can dodge it, but you can also use this opportunity to get in more easy hits. --Remember, you can spam the Weapon Skill in this phase. If timed correctly, it is possible to stun-lock Rykard and he will never hit you. --Try using only one L2/LT attack, and repeat it immediately as he recovers and starts to move again. Rykard’s demise may not be essential for story progression, but some bosses must die. Loot Rewards for Beating Rykard, Lord of BlasphemyOnce the serpentine horror is dead, you’ll be awarded 100,000 Runes, along with Rykard’s Great Rune and the Remembrance of the Blasphemous!

Mogh, the Omen can be a tough battle in Elden Ring if you are unaware of the best way to tackle this boss fight!Elden Ring has a total of 165 bosses, and each of them presents a unique challenge. Even the first bosses in the game offer a substantial learning curve for gamers. As you progress, you will encounter bosses that will require more than luck to defeat. Morg, the Omen is one of these instances. Going unprepared for this fight can result in an instant “You Died” screen. However, taking in the right items, equipment, and strategy can drastically elevate your chances of success. You can find this boss at the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. Getting here is quite tricky as the area is complex to navigate. If you are looking for Elden Ring Runes, just google search Aoeah and check it out, use code FORUM for discount! Here is how to get to Mogh’s location in Elden Ring!Reach the Pipes Area of the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds--Fast travel to the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace in Leyndell, Capital City. --From here, take the stairs down and go through the doorway in front. --Right after you exit this doorway, go to the left and keep going through a narrow hallway. --After a few steps in this hallway, you should see a rooftop on the left side, drop to this rooftop. --Drop from the rooftop to ground level and keep walking forward until you reach a small well. --Jump inside the well. --Once you reach the bottom, go forward, take a right and keep going past a room with rats until you reach a bigger room with a ladder. --From this point on, know that there are plenty of enemies in each area mentioned below. --Take the ladder down, and activate the Underground Roadside Site of Grace in a room to the right of this location. --Once activated, take the ladder down on the second opening to the right in this room. --Once you reach this new area, take the pipes to the right, and follow the wooden areas until you reach a doorway with a set of stairs inside. --Take the stairs up and pull the lever located on the right side of the room. --Once the gate opens, follow this newly opened path until you find a hole in the floor on the left side. --Fall through this opening, and you should now be in the pipes area. Reach the Underground Roadside Site of Grace Shortcut--Once in the pipe area, take the road with a protruding pipe on the right side of the wall. --After this protruding pipe, you should see a tunnel in the wall. --Take this path and navigate it carefully, as there are two holes you will need to jump as you progress. --When you reach a crossroad, take the path to the right until you reach a room with a ladder. --Take the ladder up and use the lever to the right. --Continue through this path and take the last door to the right in this hallway. --Once you enter this room, slowly and carefully approach the ledge on the left and drop to the area below. --Continue the path downstairs and take the doorway to the right. --Keep going through this path until you reach a room with a small set of stairs and a ladder. --DO NOT TAKE THE LADDER; instead, take the doorway next to the staircase. --When you enter the path, take a left and then take the opening to the right. --Keep going on this path and take the second opening to the right. --Once you reach a big room, you should see two ladders. Take the one that is farther away. --Continue this path, open the door, and you should now have a shortcut to the Underground Roadside Site of Grace. Activate the Forsaken Depths Site of Grace and Reach Mogh, the Omen--Backtrack a bit to the room with the two ladders and take the second ladder. --Once you reach the top of the ladder, drop to the pipe below and jump into the opening in the tube. --Keep on going in the pipe until you reach a corner. Once there, immediately take the opening on the left. --Take a right once you reach a crossroad, and then drop down into the first hole you encounter. --As soon as you drop, you might get backstabbed by an enemy, defeat it and take the road down. --Take a left, go down a ladder, and take the elevator to the right to go down. --As soon as the elevator reaches its destination, you should see the Forsaken Depths Site of Grace. --Activate it, and you can now fight Mogh, the Omen, in the room right in front of this Site of Grace. Tips to Defeat Mogh, the OmenIf you want to have a better chance of defeating this boss, you can get the Mogh’s Shackle item for this fight. This item will pin Mogh to the ground and leave him open for attacks. You can use this item twice, and if you are quick, you can use these instances to land some heavy damage on Mogh. Best Damage Type Against Mogh, the OmenFire is not effective against this boss (just 6% of effective damage), but the following types of damage have a 53% effectiveness against Mogh, the Omen in Elden Ring: --Magic --Lightning --Holy Regarding physical damage, Standard, Slash, Strike, and Pierce damage all have an 88% of effectiveness against Mogh. Boss Battle Strategy---Attacks Patterns--This boss has plenty of Blood Flame and Blood Claw abilities, so you need to make sure you dodge those as Blood Loss can accumulate fast and cause massive damage! --Make sure to take some Stanching Boluses to alleviate the Blood Loss in case you are hit. --Mogh’s attacks are a little slow. He will start an attack movement, but the real hit comes in later due to its slow animations. Taking this into account, once an attack animation starts, do not immediately roll! Take just a fraction of a moment, anticipate the attack, and then roll. --Mogh raises his hand to reach a portal; this indicates an upcoming Blood Flame rain attack. Whenever this happens, get some distance and prepare to dodge in case he throws Blood Flame at you. --Keep an eye on Mogh’s right-hand movement, as it will indicate attacks with his trident. The trident is not what you want to dodge; it is Mogh’s hand! Once you see his hand is coming at you, it is time to dodge! --Trident attacks are somewhat delayed, so wait just a fraction of a second to dodge them. Also, keep in mind these attacks cover a great range, and sometimes distance is not enough to avoid them, be prepared to dodge. --Mogh usually follows a three-hit pattern with his trident, so be prepared to dodge multiple times in a row. How to Get Damage In--Sometimes when Mogh does his overhead slam, he might get stuck in a pillar. This does not happen all the time, and it is hard to predict. Nevertheless, it is the perfect moment to get in one or two hits. --Get very close to Mogh and use Mogh’s Shackle item. This will pin him to the ground, allowing you to get several hits in. You can do this twice during the boss battle. --You can summon Spirit Ashes and help from other players for this boss fight if you need an extra hand. Here are the best Legendary Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring! --Mogh does a thrust attack with his trident. This move leaves him open for a couple of hits. --You can also land a few hits after the third trident attack in his combo if you are close enough. --Since Magic is somewhat effective against this boss, using ranged spells (not fire ones) is a good idea.

I decided to grab this today, and just before doing so, popped online to double-check it would actually work okay on the system. Apparently, it works fine on PS4, but not on Xbox One (which happens to be a first for me, personally.) So I got it for the PS4, instead.
I'm pretty sure my PS+ expires today. Normally, with DS games I play offline anyway, to avoid invasions, but I'm not sure if that's even a thing in Elden Ring. I've only done DS co-op a handful of times, and I have the impression Elden Ring is considered the easiest to solo play. So, for now I'm assuming I'll be fine letting the subscription lapse.

Defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood, is much easier if you know the proper strategy to face this tedious boss in Elden Ring!Bosses in Elden Ring are always a challenge. The game is designed to make everything, even the smallest enemy, deadly if you are not careful. Therefore, adequate preparation is required before facing a boss. In Elden Ring, there are even several distinct damage types you can deal or receive from enemies. All these variables make boss battles in Elden Ring not only a matter of skill but also of strategy! If you are looking for Elden Ring Runes, just google search Aoeah and check it out, use code FORUM for discount! Here is everything you need to know to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood on Elden Ring! Do not confuse this boss with Mohg, The Omen! Best Strategy to Defeat Mogh, Lord of BloodWhere to Find Mogh, Lord of Blood in Elden RingYou can find Mohg, Lord of Blood, at the end of Mohgwyn Palace. Follow these steps to get to Mohg’s arena: --Fast travel to the Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance in Mohgwyn Palace --Take the stairs and be careful as there is a considerable amount of Putrid Corpses ahead --Continue this upwards path until you reach a door with a Statue of Marika next to it --Enter this doorway and traverse the ruins --Once you reach the exit of the ruins, activate the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace --Take the stairs in front of this Site of Grace and then take the lift to the right --This lift takes you right in front of Mohg, Lord of Blood’s arena Tips to Defeat Mogh, Lord of BloodTo make this boss more accessible, you will need the following items:--Mohg’s Shackle – Pins Mohg to the ground for a few seconds; you can use it twice in this boss fight. --Purifying Crystal Tear – Purifies the Lord of Blood’s curse when mixed in the Flask of Wondrous Physick. If you want to deal with this boss without the aid of this item, skip the following topics directly to the boss battle strategy. How to Get Mogh’s Shackle in Elden RingThis item is located in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. Unfortunately, this area is extremely complicated to navigate. This boss is in the last section of this location, so this guide will help get to Mohg’s Shackle’s area. If you have already explored this area but did not find Mohg’s Shackle, follow these instructions: --Fast travel to the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds Site of Grace. --Exit the room and follow the path to the right. --Pass the gate, take the doorway to the left and go down the stairs. --As soon as you arrive at a big room with pipes, go to the left and drop to the pipe below. --Once you land, take a look down and fall to the pipe below. --Drop once again to reach ground level. --Follow the wall to the right until you reach an opening, be careful with the lobster enemy here! --Go inside the opening, take a turn right, and activate the Leyndell Catacombs Site of Grace. --Now that you have a respawn point in case things go south backtrack to the opening on the wall you used to enter this location. --Mogh’s Shackle is just behind the lobster enemy in front of the wall opening; you can use stealth to go behind it and collect the item. How to Get the Purifying Crystal Tear in Elden RingThis item is dropped by Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger, after defeating her in the Second Church of Marika at Altus Plateau. Using this Crystal Tear in the Wondrous Physick Flask before the second phase of Mohg’s boss battle prevents blood loss from its curse. However, Mohg will still regain its health. Mogh, Lord of Blood Combat StrategyBest Damage Types Against Mogh, Lord of BloodFire Damage is not ideal for this boss fight, as it only has a 20% effectiveness against Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring. However, Mohg is weak to Blood Loss (Hemorrhage). Only a 290.6 blood loss build-up is required to trigger this effect on this boss. Therefore, using the Bloody Slash Ash of War for this boss fight is a great idea. The following damage types are effective or somewhat effective against this boss:Magic – 60% Effective Lightning – 60% Effective Holy – 60% Effective Standard – 90% Effective Slash – 90% Effective Strike – 90% Effective Pierce – 90% Effective Mohg, Lord of Blood, has two different stages during its boss battle. Here are the best strategies for each of these stages. First Stage – Mohg Combat StrategyThe first thing you need to know is that you can use Spirit Ashes and summon other players to help with this fight. During this fight, getting the aggro off of your character is ideal. To achieve this, these are some great Spirit Ashes: --Mimic Tear --Black Knife Tiche --Jellyfish Also, before facing Mohg, remember to set up the Purifying in your Flask of Wondrous Physick at the Site of Grace. Attacks to anticipate:Blood Flame Claw: Mohg uses its left hand to do a backward or forehand motion and attack with Blood Flame. The backhand attack is quicker and usually followed by one or two trident attacks, generally a trident charge. If you are quick enough, you can roll through the trident charge attack and land a couple of attacks. Mohg raises its trident to use Blood Curse mark. A red circle around your character represents this mark. Once this happens a second time, use the Mohg’s Shackle item to pin this boss down and cause as much damage as possible. As soon as it gets up, use the Shackle for a second time. Mohg’s Shackle Important Tip! – Do not get this boss below or close to 50% health with the first usages of the Shackle! This is important as once the boss is below this health limit, its second phase begins, and you will need to quickly use the Flask of Wondrous Physic to avoid the blood loss curse. Second Stage – Mohg Combat StrategyAs soon as health gets near or below 50%, Mohg will begin its second phase. You will know when this is about to happen because Mohg grabs its trident with both hands and raises it while all the arena starts getting a red hue, and it starts regaining health. Once this reddish hue starts, immediately use your Flask of Wondrous Physick. Right after using the Flask of Wondrous Physick, get close to Mohg and cause as much damage as possible! If you are quick enough, you can get almost 30% of its health bar. Keep an eye on Mohg’s trident hand, as it will indicate incoming lunges with the trident imbued with Blood Flame. These attacks have great reach, but you can roll through them. Mohg’s left hand indicates Blood Flame attacks. Be careful once Mohg raises this hand and reaches into the portal, as it can also summon long-ranged Blood Flame attacks. Remain close to Mohg, and roll through its trident sweeps. Usually, after a second or third sweeping attack, you will have a small window to deal damage. If you start creating distance, Mohg uses much more Blood Flame than usual, filling the arena with it and making it harder to fight it. If the boss gets airborne, run towards it, and just as it is about to attack, roll towards it. As soon as it lands, get closer to it again to close the distance gap and try to deal some damage. This boss has plenty of moves, but keeping distance and rolling not too early to dodge his trident sweeps are the key to victory! This is everything you need to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring!

From what I understand, you only get invaded if you've summoned another player or if you've used the taunter's tongue item. Most of the game isn't particularly difficult, outside of a few tough enemy types which are usually bosses somewhere, and most bosses being designed with the expectation that you'll have an npc summon. You'll have to learn when to jump and crouch in combat, and when tthe horse is a detriment, but those were the biggest learning curves for me.

Elden Ring dungeons can be pretty intricate, but the mechanized chariots in most Hero’s Graves are by far the most obnoxious obstacles!
The Lands Between offers an incredible amount of dungeons, ruins, and other exciting landmarks for players to explore. One of the many treacherous locations players can explore in Elden Ring are the Hero’s Graves. These dungeons are generally more intricate than the usual cave in the game. One particular thing that makes these locations stand out is the inclusion of mechanized chariots that can almost always one-hit KO gamers. As well, the loot in these locations is usually worth the hassle! Navigating these graves is no easy task! You might find yourself repeatedly dying just to reach the boss at the end. However, a brilliant gamer shared a great way to avoid these chariots in Elden Ring. If you are looking for Elden Ring Runes, just google search Aoeah and check it out, use code FORUM for discount! How to Avoid the Mechanized Chariots in Elden Ring Hero’s Graves
Redditor Difficult-Rest8524 shared a trick to avoid damage from the iconic mechanized chariots in the Hero’s Graves in Elden Ring. Their trick consists in using the Raptor of the Mists Ash of War right before getting hit by one of these chariots. If used at the right time, the chariot goes through your character, avoiding all damage. You can find this Ash of War by progressing on Finger Hunter Yura’s questline. If you still do not have this Ash of War in your inventory, here is how you can find Raptor of the Mists in Elden Ring. This particular Ash of War makes your character duck and momentarily vanish. If an enemy lands an attack in the instant it disappears, your character is propelled up in the air. Furthermore, getting the timing right for this move to avoid chariots seems to be manageable. Using this Ash of War certainly makes navigating Hero’s Graves chariots in Elden Ring much easier. These chariots are a pain but also quite beneficial. Few gamers might be aware of this, but you can destroy Hero’s Grave chariots and loot them in Elden Ring!

I have no idea why the mods of the Elden Ring subreddit felt the need to remove this, but I'm reposting it here, since I spent about an hour on it. It is pretty long, so I'll put it in a spoiler. Weird Thoughts About The Elden Ring World's Shape From Watching A "Sunset" I haven't finished my first playthrough, yet, so I don't really know the whole story or what it explains. I'm not sure how any of these thoughts would interact with the lore. It's possible what I've observed is only intended to help create a surreal, dream-like quality to the environent. And, of course, I may yet learn something that explains some or all of it from progressing further into the game.
(There is a spoiler reference in a paragraph below, and I stick a warning at the beginning of that paragraph. Nothing else in here makes any reference to story or lore events.)
Chapter 1: Hey, Where's the Sun? O.o
When I emerged from the tutorial into the Limgrave overland map, I was immediately struck by what was an unusually bright colour pallette (by any game standards, let alone a spiritual Dark Souls one) that I almost found hard to look at. It felt like being in Geth Hunter Mode, and you are awarded 10 free internet points if you understood that reference.
With how bright everything was, I was struck quite early by my inability to pinpoint where the sun was in the sky. That thought stuck with me throughout the time that I played. If there was a high location I couldn't reach, I was determined to reach it as much for the opportunity to get a different angle for viewing the sky as anything else.
The first natural thought was that the giant erdtree in the background served as the source of light. By itself, that wouldn't explain the day/night cycle, but it's hard to get away from it as a possible explanation.
So with those two thoughts in mind, I continued trying to find the sun, or whatever its equivalent in Elden Ring was, throughout my playthrough. I have recently reached Altus Plateau, and via a trap, have briefly visited the capitol. I haven't seen anything beyond that.
Chapter 2: Watching the Sunset and Getting My Ass Kicked By Invaders
The location that struck me the most is in the Southwest, along the north edge of the unreachable plateau. I know it's unreachable because I spent several hours trying to reach it. There is a "dead end" where you reach the western cliff edge of Liurnia. North is the path to the Manor via the belfries, east is the lake, south is the unreachable plateau, and west appears to stretch off into the horizon as a vast ocean.
When I finally gave up on reaching the plateau, I decided that spot would be the perfect one to wait and watch the sunset. Night was expected in the next few minutes, so I figured I'd watch the sun set, then do area co-op while waiting until sunrise to see what happened.
As I rode up on the spot, I saw the sun set for the first time... kinda. It was very small, at least compared to the moon. And it was... weird. If you haven't seen it, I suspect the best thing to do is show you:
After about three minutes I was summoned. From then on, between summons, I watched the lighting change throughout the night cycle and into the day. I noticed some interesting things (including that my initially perfect record at helping hosts against invaders had completely reversed, and I was now losing every time - but that didn't have anything to do with the story.)
Chapter 3: The Night is Long and Weird
I have no idea if any of my observations have to do with each other, but for a couple of hours I watched and recorded, and here is what I remember (I'll add more if I notice anything else from the video.)
- The setting "sun's" reflection on the water can be seen for several minutes after the "sun" goes below the horizon.
- The "sun" itself can also be seen for a time after it has gone below the ocean's horizon. Whether it can be seen through the ocean, or it is a reflection off an additional surface or just an unusual lighting interaction I have no idea.
- Time in my world did not advance while I was a summoned phantom in someone else's world. I would always return at the same time of day that I left, regardless of the length of the session. This makes sense from a gameplay design perspective, and so may or may not have any lore implications.
- At one point, for several minutes, a strange lighting phenomenon took place. As I moved east, towards the erdtree, the lighting would gradually begin to brighten, as though it was sunrise. The nightsky would shift from the night blue to lighter shades. If I looked back to the west and the ocean, the brightened lighting applied, as long as I didn't move towards it. When I would move towards the ocean, the lighting would gradually go through a darkening cycle, like sunset was happening again. When I would turn and look back towards the erdtree, the new darkened lighting would continue to apply, unless I began moving east. This cycle repeated about 4 times, which each eastern movement causing a sunrise lighting change, and each western movement causing a sunset lighting change. This all occurred during the middle of the night, according to the map's reckoning of the day/night cycle.
- The stars and moon are observable at all times of day, which I imagine is one of the first things most people notice.
- The stars look very similar to the ones we see from underground locations.
- The "sun" does not rise from the western ocean when the morning cycle comes. While this might seem obvious at first, this isn't our world, and I acknowledge that "sun" and "moon" aren't the same concepts in Elden Ring, so I think it's still noteworthy. I have not found an East Edge spot I can repeat the process from, as Caelid's lighting doesn't seem to change enough, but I plan to try it there if I can't find a better vantage point in the Northeast.
- This last one is probably subjective, but it plays a big role in several of my follow-up thoughts, so I want to include it: it looks to me like the stars in the sky are part of a concave surface - like the inside of a sphere.
Chapter 4: The "Weird Thoughts" Part
This is the paragraph that contains a spoiler reference to a story event, and it's mostly a disclaimer: I have defeated Radahn and unlocked the stars moving again, but I have not repeated recording the sunset from the Liurnia location. I plan to, and if I do I may add to this or follow-up on it.
- I'll get the first one out of the way quickly: a truly "sunless" world could carry the implication that the Elden Ring world is a future incarnation of a canonical Dark Age from Dark Souls. Okay, it's out of the way.
- The world's shape is what I'm most curious about. The strongest image I have is of an onion, with spheres contained within spheres (a sort of "Russian Nesting Doll" world.) The "sky" of the inner spheres would be the underground of outer spheres. This one holds up pretty well to my observations so far.
- Imagining the shape is tricky, because there is a quirky phenomenon with human brains translating the 2D image of our eyes into 3D holograms that our minds can interpret. It kicks in particularly strongly with concave and convex spheres, and is at the heart of many optical illusions. Our brains will find any cue to shape a partial sphere as convex or concave, and thus we can often percieve both from the same object. The slightest of shading could reverse this, and make a concave sphere look convex or vice-versa. All of which is to say that the world, as presented, could also be an "onion in reverse," where we are actually observing an inner sphere, but the lighting is messing with our brains' interpretation of it.
- Some of the lighting weirdness could be explained by a cylinder. The outer ring of each layered section of the cylinder could rotate, complete with a fixed background or stars that could be similar to, or completely different from, what a section above or below in the cylinder would see. This one... kind of taps into the image and concept of "rings," but I'm not trying to say anything specific about that. I still don't technically know what the "elden ring" is.
- Inner rings and outer rings as lore concepts would probably fit fairly nicely with either a cylinder or an onion. I should probably finish the game before I think much more about any of this.
So I'm still looking for the sun. I swear, I'm not trying to be Solaire - I have no interested in having a shining squiggy-bug-thing replace my brain! But I'm definitely going to keep seeing if I can find it, or its equivalent.

It would appear I'm on a no-death playthrough.
The plan was just to play through the game wearing a dress as part of a theme of playthroughs, but somewhere in Liurnia I noticed that I still hadn't died.
The weird part is now I play in a half-panic, and end up coming a lot closer to dying than I did before I realized I had anything at stake. I almost want to get a death over with so I can go back to not worrying about it (but I won't because the part of me that likes winning is not having any of that.)

I beat this game just so I wouldn't lose money, and now I'm grinding to level 251 so I can be overleveled in ng+ and pour away my frustrations. That and also finish 3 side quests that I couldn't in this playthough
Too much bs, why even the giants and bears have to have a long range attack?

Upgrading to 1.08. Fearful.
I'd been holding on to 1.05. They nerfed two of my crutches with 1.06, and just when I was thinking about sucking it up and updating 1.07 went and nerfed my precious dual-wield scimitars, which I'd been using since the start.
But then they went and added new hairstyles. They got me. I didn't use Rivers of Blood or Bloodstep very often, but when I did, I really really needed them. I hope Fashion Souls is worth it!

Having given the game up after 20 hours of frustration. I came back to it using a YouTube to at least point me in the right direction before figuring each area out for myself. Getting along much better now, having finished Limgrave, Stormveil castle and Godrick after about 50 hours.

I have to confess that this game has utterly defeated me. I'm just not good enough, I don't have the skill.
After completing the tutorial I explored a wolf den, and got my ass absolutely handed to me. I literally reloaded the damned thing around 17 times before I found a method of dealing with all the wolves - which involved spamming the absolute crap out of some kind of Pebble spell I forgot the name of.
Then I entered a little dungeon with these nasty little Goblin creatures inside. Upon walking through a doorway I was leaped upon by one of them lurking behind the door and died almost instantly. Once again I just reloaded and reloaded and reloaded and reloaded, and died, and died and died, and died and died... until I managed to take the little bastard out, more by luck than skill.
I suspect other players breezed through both areas without a care in the world, but it was a nightmare for me. Maybe I'm too old, or my reflexes just aren't good enough?
That said I'm seriously struggling with the PC controls too. Controlling my character with the keyboard and mouse feels very, very clunky and awkward and I'm even having difficulty just keeping the camera straight and level. Maybe if I invested months into this game I'd improve, but dunno if it's worth it.

You might have an easier time with a different combat style until you get used to this type of game. You could also fight the soldiers at a nearby ruin for a bit to level up. There's a grace nearby so you don't have to reload. Every Souls veteran was getting killed just as often in the early game when they first started. You've already learned something from your experiences.

That said I'm seriously struggling with the PC controls too. Controlling my character with the keyboard and mouse feels very, very clunky and awkward and I'm even having difficulty just keeping the camera straight and level. Maybe if I invested months into this game I'd improve, but dunno if it's worth it. Their games are supposed be pretty challenging, and take some getting used to, but not so much that only epic gamers can play and enjoy them. Banging your head against a brick wall for hours, being killed by some scrub probably means something is wrong. That could be from not getting the combat mechanics, or being somewhere intended for higher levels. In your case however, my money is on trying to play with mouse and keyboard. I tried playing Dark Souls with mouse and keyboard (basically the same control scheme and combat system) and had a miserable time. I’d seen several discussions in various places with people saying it was fine. Total hogwash, it’s a disaster. Their games are absolutely designed for controllers alone. I eventually came back to it after getting a cheap 3rd party Xbox controller and it made a massive difference. But not quite enough to make very good progress and gave up again. Then I saw a video of a new player to the series being guided through the first area, with the combat basics explained. Tried again and it finally clicked. I’ve since played through DS1, DS3 and Elden Ring twice (just finished second time). Granted it’s not the same game, but most of the combat tips basically carry over. If you want another crack, my tips are: - Use a controller or don’t bother. There are lots of games that are as good or better with keyboard and mouse, this is absolutely not one of them. - Unlike most other games, even the squishiest mage will rely largely on melee for quite a while. Eventually sorceries can wreck most things at a distance, but that really comes a fair bit later. - Use a shield with 100% physical block (kite shields are light have low stat requirements). To start with at least, don’t worry about two handing or duel wielding, trying to roll out of the way of every attack. And don’t bother with parrying for now. Just get used to taking hits on the shield and attacking when there’s a opening. - Always lock on your target. Bait out enemies one at a time if possible, if not, try to avoid being flanked. - When an NPC stops talking, immediately talk to them again, until they start repeating themselves. From Software have a very funny idea about how dialogue should work. - Consult the wiki and forums. I don’t think their games are really intended for anyone but the super dedicated to just work things out on their own, and the game certainly won’t make much obvious. The mechanics are a little complicated and there are fantastic weapons and items, bosses, and even massive unique areas you could very easily miss if you don’t know exactly how to get to them. There’s even some non optional points on the critical path where you could easily get totally stuck with no idea where to go. And good luck following any of weirdo NPC quest lines without looking up exactly where to go and what to do.

Thanks. To be honest I've never used a controller in my entire life, never owned a console so learning to use one from absolute scratch is going to feel extremely awkward and strange. I'll bear it in mind. Another option might be to seek out any mods that might allow me to map the keyboard and mouse controls to my liking. I'm using a Razor Naga gaming mouse, so there's plenty of options there if I could get them to work.

So I’m currently playing Elden Ring for the first time (on PC with a gamepad). Honestly I really prefer controllers for non-shooter action games.
I’ve beaten Godrick and started thoroughly exploring Liurnia of the Lakes. I’m mostly playing sorcery, which I’m told is easy mode but whatever.
Curious if anyone has had similar problems with audio. Background music frequently drops out and even dialogue stutters in boss cutscenes at times. Dropping max volume seems to have helped, oddly enough, but not totally removed the problem.

Sorcery being "easy mode" still refers a bit to PvP and late-game PvE, but it mostly referred to cancelling/switching glitches that, when combined with dual-casting, made for some spells being much more powerful than intended.
Most of those have been patched. There won't be much that can't be done in late game with sorceries, but until you get there, I wouldn't say it makes combat any easier than other playstyles (though the utility spells are a must, for me personally.)

Okay, so... I wrote a theory that there was another tree sticking out the opposite side of the roots, sort of a mirror image (there are several images of such a construct in the game) and now... "Shadow of the Erdtree" has me wondering if I was right! Otherwise, I'm guessing this is the boss for the DLC, and I'm betting she'll be pissed.

Currently I’m thinking this will involve entering some sort of dream/spirit world, seeing all the spectral tombstones in the announcement image.
I’m eager to learn more about Miquella.
