This is a nothingburger.
No one, except businesses, will ever use Windows 11. This is the beginning of end for a software that has mostly sucked from inception.
I will never have this hypervisor doodad in any PC in my home. I write software occasionally, and I will not have Windows telling me ny software isn't good enough for them. Windows can flat kiss my ass.
I have built, this year, my last Windows gaming machine. It will never not run Windows 10, and I won't ever spend money on a Windows rig again. Ubuntu does what I need for most professional endeavors.
So, to end my rant - who cares? Enjoy the end of windows, this entire decision to make a new version and have this hardware requirement is an obvious Big Brother and I won't have it.

mmm... those are GOOD features to have for the security of the OS, long awaited.
Whats the problem here? The fear that nothing is executed without hypervisor virtualizer? Why would that be the case?

Unless Microsoft will walk back the requirement for virtualization before the official release Thanks for the links! They already have backtracked somewhat: <<Windows 11 does not apply the hardware-compliance check for virtualized instances either during setup or upgrade.>> SourceNo one, except businesses, will ever use Windows 11 There's gonna be plenty of laptops and tablets running Win11. It's us hardcore types that fret over this. those are GOOD features to have for the security of the OS Regarding security, yes. But they are leaving millions in the cold. And I still have a distaste for The Phantom Module 2.0.

Yes, there will be lots of people on 11. But less than made the quick switch to 10 like me. ... Why? Because I talk to people about technology all the time. I am literally called Nerd at work, as a job title. We own it, we call ourselves the Nerd Herd. We will trounce you What do I tell people asking me questions about why their computer is frozen, why they can't read this pdf, why they can't stop drooling? I ignore the drooling question and let them know my computers are shrinking, are purpose built, and some of them hardly function like a normal computer anymore, by design. Give a small computer one job, and it excels at that job. Give a big computer many jobs, and it generally sucks a rhino's ass. I have a gaming computer. I will always have a gaming computer. I will always have a Windows 10 gaming computer. It is the last Windows machine I will ever build, and it will never use a different OS. They look scared as I say these things, the vast wasteland being revealed against their will. "Won't you get left behind at work?" No.

But is it set in stone somewhere, written maybe that everything is now sandboxed in Win11? I wouldnt think so, that would basically leave backwards compatibility in shambles for many pieces of software?

But less than made the quick switch to 10 like me. Certainly. And switching from 8 to 10 was a no-brainer. it generally sucks a rhino's ass. Now I have a vivid picture in my mind of -no, not gonna go there!

But is it set in stone somewhere, written maybe Probably not. But they seem to be set on TPM 2.0. One way or the other, your PC is going to have to have that, if you plan on running Win11. And it is my understanding, that they won't be all that interested in backwards compatibility. The reason being they want to plug some of the worst vulnerabilities for good.

Lets see, I have a feeling they would introduce some kind of enduser transparent layer but yeah, some older DRM may break If they completely separate from traditional Windows with backwards compatibility.. naah I cannot see that, they now have hyper-v and so on running and I think Xbox OS is running games in 'containers' but havent so much got into that. Basically Xbox version of Win10.

If they completely separate from traditional Windows with backwards compatibility That has been the rumour. But yeah, it's all speculation at this point. Basically Xbox version of Win10. I have a very bad feeling about this.

My thought on this, now that it has marinated more.
No games are going to be developed "for Windows 11” until very near the EOL for Win 10 (2025).
Why? Because this will be a very slow adoption cycle, as people will be quite resistant to a forced hardware upgrade in the current and expected economy. They will push Windows 10 EOL again and again.
Closed gardens are not the way. FOSS or fuck off, but that's just me I guess.
