KOTOR Remake confirmed, PS5/PC timed Exclusivity

I personally don’t think any of the ME games even need a remake but from a company perspective it likely comes down to cost of the project as well as their expectations on what they think the interest level will be for the public. I mean a remake is technically building the game from scratch after all, much more expensive than a remaster where you slap new paint on the exterior with maybe a few minor improvements to the UI or something.

I hear EA was surprised ME legendary did better than expected but personally they couldn’t even give actual numbers. Furthermore some articles put it out there like ME:L doing so well would mean more mass effect as if we didn’t already know that.

In general though, it’s up to the companies on whether they do a remake or remaster, a remaster tends to be the safer option as well as the cheaper one, remakes risk screwing things up if not handled right. Hell there are people out there that don’t see the point in dead space being remade and some are even worried it’ll actually be an inferior product to the original.

Pretty excited but surprised at no involvement period from bio. I guess disney really didn't put out a good output.

SWTOR can go fuck itself.

BTW: this could be a game that is launching first on that new console called the PS5 that I have been hearing about a lot, you PC and owners of the equally new Xbox Series X might see it yet.

Didn't they draw a line in the sand some time ago about this kind of thing?  They pivoted to work only on their own IPs?  Since it is a remake, not a remaster, there isn't any real need for Bioware to be involved, either.

This is my same story - Kotor was my first BioWare game and I think I only put DAO above it.

The reason for the remake of this would have nothing to do with EA or BioWare its between Asypr and the LucasArts division at Disney.  As far as Dead Space and Mass Effect that is what the developers thought those were what would work best for that situation.  It could even be that they experimented with a Dead Space remaster and realized that they couldn't get it to run on the new consoles or PC hardware properly with the changes they wanted. Since it used a game engine that Redwood Studios used for the Godfather game and then customized it further for Dead Space since they were familiar with it already.  Where Mass Effect used Unreal and was updated to the newest version of Unreal 3 and were able to add new effects to that engine.

I for one am very excited! In a released statement, the dev team at Aspyr said they plan to modernize the graphics, features and gameplay, while staying true to the original story and characters. Developers from the original KOTOR are also onboard, and Sony support is great considering their recent great track record with exclusives. It's also confirmed that voice actors such as Jennifer Hale and others will reprise their original roles as Bastila and others.

As far as a remake goes, that information is about as good of a first impression you can make, in my view at least!

They said they are in early development, so I think it'll be a 2023 release, which will also coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original KOTOR's release.

Doesn't "console exclusive" mean it's only an exclusive for the selected console? Usually that doesn't affect the PC release and the game launches simultaneously for the console and PC.

If it was worded like a "timed PS5 exclusive", then that would mean it will launch later on all other platforms, including PC.

Hah! Finally! I wonder how much they will change in terms of story and game mechanics. I hope it will remain an RPG.

The wording of the announcement is unclear, so I will wait for concrete clarifications. But so far it seems people believe (or hope) it means it will launch at the same time on the PS5 and PC.

But we are probably 2-3 years away. Lot can happen.

Maybe this is just me, but I get these two games confused all the time.
