David Gaider @davidgaider If a future sequel of, say, Dragon Age or Mass Effect required making a previous decision canon, would you be upset?
[ ] Yes, it’d ruin the games
[ ] Yes, if it’s not MY canon
[ ] Not if the story was cool
[ ] It’s a new game it’s fine

They already made Dragon Age decicions canon. You can kill Leliana in DAO and she is always present in DA2 and DAI.
For Mass Effect i go with the second option. I must be really lucky if they choose the Canon ending i like

David Gaider @davidgaiderIf a future sequel of, say, Dragon Age or Mass Effect required making a previous decision canon, would you be upset? [ ] Yes, it’d ruin the games [ ] Yes, if it’s not MY canon [ ] Not if the story was cool [ ] It’s a new game it’s fine David Gaider @davidgaiderI ask because there was talk, back in the day, as to whether choices in an RPG were better intended for reactivity *within* a game as opposed to *between* games. The latter is super difficult to maintain in a satisfying way over multiple titles... which is why few games do it. Naturally, when it comes to Dragon Age and Mass Effect specifically, the fact they've already done it perhaps means that ship has sailed... once the promise of continuity between games has been made, it's probably difficult to go back on it without making many fans angry. I do wonder, however, whether a *new* title would have that expectation. If an RPG has choices - especially choices that lead to multiple endings - do you, as a player, automatically expect that any follow-up should honor those choices? No matter what the developer says? I imagine the answer for most would be "no" -- again, most games don't do this, for good reason. Then again, perhaps BioWare's games have created an ideal expectation as to what an RPG (or, at least, an ongoing RPG world) *should* be. It's an interesting question. Personally, I remember how difficult to was to let go of the Old God Baby being a major plot thing, as it existed in a quantum state that was too expensive to have the divergence I'd originally imagined. I also feel for the Mass Effect developers wrestling with the ME3 endings. I've always felt there's a big difference between following through on choices in a *satisfying* way. The fans imagine these huge divergences we can't deliver on... so we ultimately end up disappointing most even as we limit our options. So is such continuity *really* worth it? The answer to that question likely rests with the individual fan. I doubt there's consensus, and the poll reflects that. 20% of the fan base being upset makes for a VERY loud reaction, especially online where every tweet is like a missile fired. So it remains a pickle, I guess. Patrick Weekes @patrickweekesRead this thread hoping you had a magical answer I had heretofore not considered, but thanks for the pickle.

ah yes, choices. Gamble tweeted they respect players choice. When I saw that tweet on the old forum, I posted that is incorrect.
I have no problem if they choose whatever choice since I've made nearly all the choices the trilogy has to offer except 2 that will always remain the same. If the teaser is to be believed, then they already made their choice. Dead reapers seen suggesting red is the ending. Showing t'soni who can die in ME3.

Dead reapers seen suggesting red is the ending. How many dead Reapers did we see? Shep had a big hand in destroying Sovereign, the one on Tuchanka and the one on Rannoch. It wouldn't be odd to think other Reapers were killed. I do believe Destroy is the most likely ending, but it could also be an ending that's not precisely like any that we were presented with. Showing t'soni who can die in ME3. Don't remind me.

I'd think continuing off the destroy ending of ME3 would make the most sense as the premise of the whole story was around destroying the reapers. Not controlling or co-existing with the giant death machines that assimilated everyone they could mind control and tried to exterminate everyone else. Its not like they'd ever reverse the damage they did to everyone they took either so the symbiosis ending would be stupid if you put any thought into it.

I am so used to straight cis male protag being canonized. Like Killian Experience jokes on his videos, bioware expects people to pick Ashley over Kaidan even before people play the game. Mass Effect simply isn't for me without FemShep and it would really make me upset if they retconned that aspect.

Shepard should be referred to by title and surname, or they pronouns. Shepard is yours, Shepard is mine, Shepard should not be Revanized.

Humans are not the first creatures on earth, and they may not be the last either

The fact Gaider references an ongoing "wrestling match" between the ME Next writers and the (shit) ME3 ending(s) bodes ill.
Not that the match is extant, but that it is seemingly still underway.
For chrissakes, make a durn decision, and get on with the dev.
It's only been a decade after all..
Oh, wait a sec. That would take some strong, clear-eyed, strategic decision making and leadership.
I forget meself. This is, after all, Biower...

It looks nice but, like the Nomad, is useless in battle. Those were two things I think people who disliked MEA pointed out as problematic. We didnt need guns on them - yet at least. And actually I'm of the mind we should not have gunz blazign all the time in the games, so better to have less of them IMHO Why would you need to have guns blazing? That only happens if attacked, right? Having weapons is not a bad thing especially when exploring unknown areas. Having them could mean the difference between being destroyed or surviving. The plane was saved twice by the scrouge in the game. With the car, having weapons for it would make sense. You come under attack, you have to get out to defend yourself. That's fine, but when the enemy has enough common sense to fire at the car to destroy it, you no longer have a way to escape. Being in the car gives you added protection and mobility to lessen the chance of taking damage.
