Burning time until the UNC v Duke game, which UNC WOOOOONNN!!! Ahem, burning time tonight, I squeezed in a very productive 2 hours of Forbidden West. I loaded my save in Plainsong and headed by machine toward the Memorial Grove. I was thinking about farming some XP in the Arena, while that still works, but didn't want to waste the money. (Why in the world do we need to pay these fools to play? Hasn't Aloy earned a free pass? Weird game design.) I did buy a great Sharpshot Bow (Very Rare). Upgraded to Tier V and with coils installed, it's Tearblast Arrows do over 520 tear! I can't wait to open some fights with this thing. Say goodbye to your favorite components, chumps. I then thought about doing some hunting for upgrades. The thing is, I didn't want to turn it down to Story; and I didn't want to expend the crafting resources that the ammunition would require on Very Hard. I'm always watching those reserves in my stash. Ultimately, I decided to just wander, and it worked out great. I found 4 more greenshine slabs, several clusters, and several gold and purple supply caches in out of the way cliffs, nooks, and crannies. I think I've developed an eye for these now. Most importantly, I found the twentieth Errand. Last week, Tittus told me that they had 20 Errands completed. Knowing there was one more out there, I kept coming back each day and finally found it today. North of the Grove, on the northwestern bank of a shallow lake, I encountered a Tenakth in need. His companion's voice-acting was slightly cringeworthy, but the little quest was well designed, quick, and fun. That's 20 Errands now, so maybe that's all of them. Continuing my roaming and finding more Greenshine Slabs in Sky Clan territory, I came along the coast. I finally cleared my map of a tiny strip of fog across the open water and was rewarded with a bit of loot. Then, heading back to the mainland, I discovered that the Greenhouse has a perch on its roof. That was a nice surprise, since the game outright blocks any but the scripted path into it earlier in the game. There were a few bits of loot. More interesting was the fact that I could walk all over the place. I'd explored it thoroughly inside and from the sea, but being on the roof gave a cool new perspective. Leaving, I picked a fight with a Slaughterspine for fun. I killed it from hiding amidst some grass and trees along the coast. Five Braced Shots from Forgefall was all it took. (Thank you for the assist, Stamina potions.) Finally, seeing that my game is 99% complete, I decided to go ahead and play some Strike. Mostly, this involves using my Fireclaw to stomp out 7 victory points on lesser machines. I'm sure I'll eventually need to Git Gud if I want to win every match.

I found the twentieth Errand. LMAO, that's the one I was missing too!!! I got curious if I was missing one and indeed I was. Found a list online and quickly found the one I was missing: Supply Drop. One of the few inches of the map I hadn't explored, naturally. But good grief, took me forever to find the spot. I think half an hour I kept going up and down the road because the first few websites were too vague. Was wondering if it won't trigger in postgame. I almost gave up. The I found another website giving a specific location at last! I almost died, lol. Man, this game is so much tougher than HZD for me. The machines are WAY more aggressive and for some reason that clawstrider at the end kept eating my arrows. My legendary bow arrows!!! Not sure if that's the nerf or just me being the worst shot ever. Not really much story to this errand. So I wouldn't have missed anything important there. BUT it got me a missing skill point and now I have everything unlocked. For what it's worth... I'm about 20h into HZD and gosh tripwires used to be god-like! I can't believe how much they suck in FW. The range is a joke and the length you can do as well. I don't know who redesigned them but I'd like to slap them, lol. Enjoying killing everything with tripwires again in HZD.

Yeah, they really nerfed some stuff. I've barely used my tripcasters because they were so weak the few times I did. Traps are too limited early and too expensive later. The ropecasters don't work as well as in Zero Dawn. It's not a coincidence that my legendary tripcaster is one of the items I've not yet upgraded.
When I want to set up trip wires and traps, I generally want to set up quite a few. There are three Corrupted Zones in Zero Dawn where I always employed traps.
For the Stalkers in the southeast jungle, I fortify a little zone across the river and start shooting. When they come bounding across, they get shocked and blasted.
There's a zone south of Meridian that has Behemoths and Longlegs. I always set up fire traps and explosive traps in every path of ingress/egress from their little valley. Then, I lure them out and set to it.
Lastly, there's a zone south of Sunfall with Chargers and Behemoths. I just shoot the Chargers so that no traps are wasted. Then, I start burning the Behemoths. Inevitably, one charges and gets destroyed by my traps. The last one usually tries to hide. 😄
In Forbidden West, I just haven't bothered with traps because of the artificial, gamist limit. The Carja Stalker Elite outfit (I think it's called) could remove all of my mechanical gripes when fully upgraded, but the traps would still be an expensive option. It's hard to go that route when I can devastate machines with arrows. Carja's Bane fires simple arrows that shred machines. I can make a bundle of 18 for 1 ridgewood and 1 metal shard.
I've exhausted everything this game has to offer, other than Strike. (I've only completed the Beginner circuit for the XP.) I will not be doing any more upgrades this playthrough because of the costs. I own every outfit, all legendary gear, and many very rare items. I have about 5000 shards, at present. I could make shards fighting medium tier machines pretty easily, but that's only half the equation.
Taking down the Apex heavies on Very Hard generally requires some resources for the ammo expended. If you fight efficiently and use Valor and Stamina as frequently as possible, you generally come out slightly ahead, but it's a close shave. Even if the ammo is arguably a non-issue, the upgrades themselves cost a fortune in shards. How many can I afford with 5000 shards? Not many.
I am still in love with wandering the world. I have been flying, riding, and swimming everywhere, finding greenshine and hidden loot, but I've about exhausted that, too. I've been everywhere. I think it's time to hang it up and come back for NG+ and/or DLC.
I might play MELE again. I can never get too much Mass Effect.

I did my final mop-up in Forbidden West before setting it aside.
I did not feel like playing Machine Strike in order to get the remaining skill points, so I cheesed the Arena. You can replay the last challenge to earn 1 skill point. If you save and exit to the main menu, you can reload and do it again. I did this 8 times to finish my final skill upgrades (getting the Trapper valor surges from T2 to T3).
I turned the game to Story for this and was still amazed by the Apex Thunderjaw's ferocity. I can't believe I beat that thing on Very Hard on my third try. I bet I could try 20 more times and maybe not do it. 😆 I remember feeling that the Apex Scorcher was the bigger threat, which is probably true. Still, that Thunderjaw was literally stomping Aloy into the ground and dancing on top of her.
It reminded me of my post-game thoughts. I recalled thinking that the enemies on Very Hard sometimes pulled impossible maneuvers. Now, I am reminded which enemy. It was the Arena Thunderjaw. No machines in the open world pull those 180° turns on a dime.
I also discovered some more nerfs. I again failed to one-shot a Slaughterspine from stealth despite definitively hitting a weak spot. I checked my weapons and then my skill trees. The Stealth Stalker valor surge has been weakened.
Stealth Stalker used to give +200% damage against unaware enemies. This, combined with weapon techniques and weak spots, could bring down anything.
Now, Stealth Stalker gives +200% damage to Silent Strike, but only +50% to ranged damage. You can still do a ton of damage, but it's now trickier to one-shot big machines on Very Hard. I'll miss it when fighting Fireclaws. That was the best way to kill them while preserving their sac webbing, a very common upgrade component.
Well, I would love to keep playing and trying new combat tactics, but the game is simply over. There's nothing left for me on this save file, and I'm going to take a break. If I keep gaming, I'll probably move back into MELE again. I am feeling the urge to play the ME2 Vanguard or Soldier.

Someone raised the point of nemesis being able to travel as a signal, thus negating any need for a space ship or vehicle. He has a point. There're many shells around the Earth nemesis can reside in once it arrives so I've no idea how Aloy, Sylens, Beta and Co are going to counter Nemesis out in space since I'm certain they will take the shuttle to the Zentih ship to see what it holds though I'm sure they could access the data mainframe from the shuttle.

Obsidian GryphonI don't think NEMESIS will travel as a data transmission for the following reason.
Tilda said that it had been pursuing them, not that they feared it might pursue. If that is true, it couldn't have pursued them in a "signal" form. In such a form, it would've traveled at the speed of light. Even traveling at a significant fraction of the speed of light, the Zeniths would've arrived far behind it. NEMESIS would've already arrived on Earth and might have chosen to interfere in the events of the first game.
I'd be surprised if it is already on Earth or very nearby (like the Moon), but it's not impossible. They have the time to write a good reason for any number of scenarios. The good news is that whatever we get in the next game will likely not be as cheesy as the Zeniths and Tumor Ted Faro. I know I said that I was finished with Forbidden West, but I needed a gaming break today and lacked the will to start anything new. So, I loaded my save just outside of the Arena and started walking. I decided to take the time to admire the small details of the environments. I walked northwest into Sky Clan territory. The ice and snow are pretty impressive. I wish they'd not gone full bore into the rough weather up there. I'd have enjoyed seeing those snowy environments twinkle in the sun. From there, I walked down along the coastline as far as Thornmarsh. In the sequoia forest, I admired the crazy level of detail. The mosses and grasses on the ground are so detailed. Then there's the ferns and on up the line. It's amazing. I almost got attacked by a Clawstrider while staring at moss in the forest. 😁 Then, I decided the path I'd walk across the marsh and jungle would be a mostly straight walk from Thornmarsh to the ruins of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. I got into the biggest fights of my trip during this leg of the journey. I destroyed a Fireclaw and several Apex Watchers. Later, I got ambushed by two Stalkers just east of the Salvagers Camp. It turns out that more of those things did return to the area. The vegetation is thick and impressive every step of the way. There are also tons of ruins in the jungle. I always enjoy the vague melancholy that seeing the ruins of our world brings to the game. From the top of the aqueduct, I headed more or less due east, eventually gliding down over a long dead Horus titan into the desert sands. Those guys sure do look like extra-tentacley Reapers. I picked a fight with some Sunwings and Bellowbacks. Sunwings sure are easy to swat now that I have a nice Purgewater bow. I stopped in Hidden Ember to visit Aloy's buddies and then walked north to Arrowgrasp. I picked a fight with three Longlegs along the way. Not only is the rocky desert beautiful and varied, but I love the wildlife. There are so many lizards and scorpions scurrying underfoot. I will say that FW's sandstorms aren't as impressive as ZD's storms. I'd probably feel differently if I were playing on PS5. From Arrowgrasp, I climbed to the Base and cut through the mountains. There are some really great places to cross on foot, but I'm glad I used the Base. I found a slab of Greenshine not too far southeast of the eastern exit. I had killed Rebels throughout this long walk, mostly joining ongoing fights against them. South of Plainsong, I ignored an effort to lure me into an ambush. Then, I immediately stumbled upon another ambush with 5 or 6 rebels in hiding. I killed them all with arrow or spear without ever raising suspicion. No Man's Land is interesting. There's verdant Plainsong, and then the more arid terrain around it. Again, it all looks and sounds so good. I destroyed a number of nosey Skydrifters along the way, eventually walking all the way back to Chainscrape. One big takeaway, other than how incredible the details of this world are, is that the soundtrack is very good. At first, I did not appreciate it as much as the Zero Dawn OST. I still think ZD's is arranged and flows better, but I will definitely be increasing my Music volume settings henceforth. I don't know if I have another walkabout in me, but we'll see. There are other roads and routes I could take. I'd probably go "clockwise" next time, heading south and west from the Daunt. It took a long time, but it was fun. I had some good fights and really got to appreciate the terrain. I know every bush, rock, and tree in Zero Dawn, having played it so many times. I feel like I'm starting to really know my way around even the less traveled parts of the Forbidden West

So that boils down to, Nemesis cannot transmit itself which means it needs a receptacle to store itself. Likely storage components. Would this be its vulnerability?I'm going to guess the ship it arrives in has defense and attack capabilities.

I've been low-energy this week, but need an occassional escape, so I've still been playing HFW for less than an hour each day.
I started that clockwise loop I'd mentioned a few days ago. I didn't want to retread ground, so I ended up not even going further west than the hills west of the Grove. From there I headed north. Once I started getting close to the lake near Salt Bite, I turned east.
I have fought some fun battles against rebels, machines, and sometimes both. I made it all the way back to the Salvage Camp west of Barren Light today.
I like to keep my Volatile Sludge reserves around 325 or higher. Mine has now dropped into the neighborhood of 295. I don't want to deplete that too much. I want to have that good reserve built up for NG+/DLC.
I need to turn on Easy Loot and limit myself to just killing Apex machines. That shouldn't be too tough, since about 75% of the machines I see are Apex. I recall the game saying that the more of a kachine you destroy, the more Apexes will replace them. I guess I've really caused HEPHAESTUS to step up its game.

I was watching a let's play and one attack took me by surprise:
Was that laser beam added recently? Granted I didn't fight against many shellsnappers, but I don't remember it at all.

So, I finished replaying the main story. Managed to do so in about 35h with only 4 side quests and 2 errands done. I was level 31 when I started the final showdown. Boy, did I feel being underleveled even though I even fully upgraded the purple Carja Trapper outfit. I died several times fighting the spectres. I died several times fighting Erik. It took me like 5 attempts to beat Tilda.
I kept dying from my own acid traps with the spectres. It was so annoying.
The Tilda fight I kept failing because eventually I ran out of healing...
I died zero times the first PT when I was level 50+. Was almost disappointed it was so easy, lololol.
Mind you, played on Normal again. My own fault being underleveled. I just wanted to see if it's possible to basically just do the main quest. Yes, possible but kinda sucks, lol. Now I'll probably do most of the sidequests afterwards. I didn't even do any companion quests. Wanted to see if doing them in postgame triggers slightly different text. Forgot that Beta won't talk to you anymore in postgame aside from the recycled flavor stuff. I know that Aloy says different things to her after their big talk. There's only a small window for that though and I messed it up... Btw got the platinum trophy at last. I had to jump from the mount to get the gliding one. On that note: fuck the melee pits. Seriously. Even worse than the arena. I had to put the game to Story at Thornmarsh and for the Enduring. I did so little damage and they so much, it was unreal. I couldn't manage to do ANY of the combos the pits tried to teach me. Got nonstop blocked and attacked. Fuck this shit...

And then all you get is slight boost in Melee damage for your trouble. LOL. I found that using the smoke traps efficiently really helped against The Enduring. Jeez, now that I recall, I hated how she could counter attack from her backside, like what the f*** is this. Haha.

I finally got my hands on a PS5, so I've begun my HFW NG+. I'd kept my expectations in check, but it really does look great. The detail, lighting, and draw-distance were immediately noticeable. The improved framerate appreciated as well, of course.

I am nearing the finish line of my first NG+. I completed "The Wings of the Ten" earlier this evening. "Gemini" managed to make me get slightly damp-eyed again. The writing is so good upon returning to base and having that one-on-one with a certain companion.
I absolutely destroyed Regalla. Honestly, I've absolutely destroyed everything this playthrough. I've died only once. I can't remember exactly what happened, but I recall that it was surprising and silly. I'm certain that Ultra Hard would be more than a bit frustrating if selected for a new game. For NG+, though, it's a cakewalk, just as with HZD.
I like the new face paints and dyes, as well as a few of the new weapons. The new Legendary Hunter Bow with Purgewater Arrows is in my regular loadout. The new Sharpshot Bow, "Iriv's Something", will replace "Forgefall" as my primary Sharpshot if I ever get it upgraded. I'm simply not in the mood to grind for upgrades again, as I did during the post-launch days. There are too many other things I could do with my time.
As much as this has made me want to replay the full story/both games again, I will probably take a break after this. Forbidden West is a long game.

I completed my Forbidden West NG+. As is frequently the case, I enjoyed the game more the second time through.
I refreshed my memory on some of the most exacting details, and again ran through possibilities for the next game. With GAIA now being fully restored minus HEPHAESTUS (and deleted HADES), we might get some cool new capabilities next time. With HEPHAESTUS having now experienced Zenith-tech, I think it might grow beyond GAIA's ability to simply reintegrate. We will see.
I don't want to over do it by continuing to play Horizon at the present, so I think I'll likely take a break. I have my NG+ save ready for whatever DLC expansion we get in the coming months. (The Burning Shores?)
Since Ultra Hard difficulty is locked in once chosen, I can't knock it down to Casual/Story/Whatever to collect upgrade materials for my few favorites of the new weapons. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd do it anyway. I'm afraid I'll grind through the same 5 machines ad nauseum, get my gear fully upgraded, and then find it upstaged by new gear in the expansion. I think I'll just wait until the game is complete before grinding anymore upgrades.
On a related note, I realized that I did not override a single machine that wasn't a mount during this playthrough, excepting a single Ravager that wouldn't quit hanging about while I tried to pick flowers. This means that any resources I spent on fixing corrupted overrides were wasted. It's no big deal for lesser machines, but I'll think twice before wasting precious resources on the tough ones in future playthroughs. I do always enjoy pitting the Stormbird and Slaughterspine on the northern shore of San Francisco against one another while harvesting, so maybe some investment in overrides is worthwhile.
I also completely ignored Spikethrowers after getting good use out of them in my initial playthrough. This time, I ran with three Hunter Bows, one Sharpshot, one Warrior Bow, and one Sling. I think adding the new Legendary Hunter Bow (with Superior Purgewater) to my wheel bumped the spikes. At that point, they became out-of-sight/out-of-mind. I'll try to reincorporate them next time.

I ended up doing some more in my Forbidden West playthrough. I hadn't done the Arena, the Melee Pits, the Hunting Grounds, or the Races. Additionally, I looked at the materials needed to upgrade the three new Legendary Weapons I wanted to use and realized that I actually had most parts that would be needed.
I spent a couple of hours doing some hunting. It wasn't excessive in scope, so it didn't feel like grinding. I was able to fully upgrade "Iriv's Downfall" (Sharpshot), "Rain of Sparks" (Warrior Bow), and "Defiance" (Spikethrower).
I already had "Tears of the Land Gods" (Hunter Bow) and "All Mother's Blessing" (elemental tripcaster) fully upgraded. AMB required only basic resources, oddly, so I'd done that one immediately.
For my playstyle, the tripcaster is situational at best. The spikethrowers are good but oft forgotten by me. Still, all 5 of these are now my first-choice weapons in their categories, clear improvements over the existing Legendaries.
The top half of my wheel is occupied by Hunter Bows, and "Tears of the Land God" is now my default option for Impact, Tear, and Purgewater. It sits at the top of my wheel.
Warrior Bows are awesome for direct impact damage, for close-quarters fighting, etc... They are my first choice for any fight in which close-quarters is viable. The ammo is super affordable, meaning I expend no important resources in crafting those arrows. I have "Rain of Sparks" configured for nearly 100% crit chance. I expect this to be an upgrade over the already effective "Carja's Bane".
After upgrading, I stopped by the Hunting Grounds in the Daunt and near Plainsong. Then, I went to the three Tenakth Melee Pits. It's amazing how easy those are once you know what the awkwardly written directions mean. I forgot to check my "before" stats for my spear. I wanted to see if I could repeatedly stack spear upgrades across NG+ playthroughs by always defeating The Enduring. Even if not, that story was still enjoyable enough to experience again.
I don't know whether I'll bother to complete the remaining Hunting Grounds or any of the Arena this time. I don't really feel the need with no rewards on the table.
My Aloy is now sitting at Level 70. If Ghost Levels work the same as they did with Zero Dawn, then I'll have 20 levels to immediately put into the expansion. That should be cool. I stopped by the locations that refer to Brin (the machine-blood drinker) and Gildun (the Oseram delver we met in The Frozen Wilds). I look forward to seeing them again, presumably along "The Burning Shores".
I wonder if the Burning Shores will be along the Colorado River or if we will travel all the way to the Gulf of California? The former feels more likely. They could even add a large lake if they wish, since bodies of water need not match precisely to present day. (Just thinking of our world's rapidly vanishing lakes and rivers makes me feel ill. 😨)
